Ella's has yet to disappoint. Food is always great, good drinks and usually good service. This last time I think our waiter was a little overwhelmed and not as attentive. In the end though it was fine. Great spot for a nice meal and drinks.

Bad night all around. Service slow including kitchen. 1 entre inedible and sent back. No visit from anyone asking why (including waiter) although they did take it off the check. Also cancelled our reservation with Open Table while we were dining. Third time there. First 2 visits were fine but this was not. Not sure if will return. Nice outdoor seating.

The food was outstanding. After having dinner at Ella's at least six times so far this year, I can say without hesitation that the food is consistently fresh, delicious and very well, prepared. The prawns with the watermelon panzanella was my favorite new item on the menu. What a wonderful twist. The foie gras torchon, as usual, melted in my mouth. The serving was generous, so I needed to ask for another slice of brioche. So good! If there is one appetizer that you should try in addition to the prawns, it has to be the heirloom tomato salad with the house-made fromage blanc. Perfectly ripe, seasoned tomatoes, but the cheese is the star here. One last thing, for an Indian Summer evening, try the "Corpse Revival" cocktail. Really refreshing!

We stumbled upon Ella's a couple months back and we quickly became regulars. The menu is hyper seasonal with a good amount of produce coming from their own farm about 5 miles away. They make their own sausages and charcuterie in house that is outstanding! Great wines to pair and friendly knowledgable staff. Can't go wrong:)

Ever since the hiring of the general manager and executive chef brother duo, Ella's has been improving. Their produce is now mostly grown by the restaurant and is picked fresh daily. On Saturday night, our late reservation might have caught another place running out of steam. Here, the heirloom tomato salad, gnocchi, scallop and prawn dishes were each terrific. In particular, the salad allowed the perfect season-ending tomatoes to shine without more than a hint of saltiness provided by the restaurant's homemade cheese and light olive oil. Ended with a peach bread pudding that was lightly sweet without being cloying. Nice to see Washington State wines on the list, as well as the usual suspects from France and California. We'll be back.

We've been dining at Ella's regularly (like 4 or 5 times a year) since it's a great neighborhood spot. During the summer, dining on the patio is a fantastic experience. The food has always been notable and the menu has a wide range of choices. I don't know if something changed recently (new chef?), but please go easy on the salt! It was overwhelming at our last meal here.

  • Great restaurant with one caveat
    AndreaVIP
    Dined on 8/7/2014
Our server was fantastic and the food was mostly excellent. Only caveat is that I am on a low sodium diet and generally have found that fine restaurants (similar to Ella's) can accommodate my needs. I selected a few entrees from the menu and asked the server to check with the chef to determine which would have the least sodium. To my surprise, the chef responded that he/she salts all meats and fish when they first arrive at the restaurant, so I had virtually no choices for a protein with little salt. My meal of tuna, which was recommended as the least salty option, was disappointing (and fairly salty). My companions thoroughly enjoyed their meals (wiith no dietary restrictions).

Ella's has been excellent each of the 3 times I've been there. It's amazing it's tucked into a strip mall in Devon, PA! The food, esp. the sauces & presentations, is outstanding & unique, the service has been consistently good-to- excellent, & my family & friends haves loved it each time I've gone - a real winner. It's a touch pricey, but worth it!

We ate at Ella's on a steamy, stormy, summer night. The lighting and ambience were so warm and elegant. Our server was very attentive. Water and bread service was frequent. Food was pretty good. The Monkfish was a little dry and the dish itself was a little salty for our taste buds. Only complaint was no sugar on the rim with a lemon drop martini. That's a must,

We love Ella's. The menu is not too extensive which tells me that the chef is not trying to stretch himself too than. Rather, he wants to focus on offering a menu which appeals to most diners. I think this is very wise and it has paid off well for him and the restaurant. The bartenders are personable, professional and have great senses of humor. Tim made me a special strawberry and basil cocktail which was delicious. For dinner, I had the steak which was SO good, and since I NEVER order steak because I have been disappointed, I thought I would try it. Perfectly cooked. My husband and our friend had a burger which looked delectable. My other friend had the spinach crepes which she enjoyed. Great spot. Keep up the good work.

Not certain where to begin, so I'll start at the beginning. A real bar, with a GROWN up bartender who knows how to make things like a Makers Mark Old Fashioned (perfectly), wonderful host, and professional wait service that was serving a great new menu executed flawlessly from the kitchen. We sampled from across both sides of the menu - highlights included the short rib, the gnocchi, the trout and the soup of the day, a cold crisp cauliflower soup. Fantastic imagination in both presentation and flavor. Our wait team was mature, and on point providing the proper amount of attention and measured privacy. The restaurant decor has the charm of dining at a friends house, the new menu with farm to table choices making it even more so.

Have been to Ella's before several times, and the food is always great. It was too bad this time the female bartender could not hold her feelings back towards the other co-workers with whom she was having issues, as it may have been more than just one..... Also too bad for management for allowing this discussion to happen at the sevice bar, not before or after service.

After reading many glowing reviews about this restaurant in our local magazine I had high expectations about this supposed "farm to table." My mussels appetizer was very disappointing with several mussels tasting bad (definitely not fresh!) The arugula and beet salad was well prepared but the rest of our food was bland or drowning in butter. Virtually everyone's dinners were just mediocre. We will not be return as there are many other restaurants with better food for similar prices.

Three of us went for dinner. We requested that Daniel choose our drinks. One of us had a rum drink, an absinthe drink and a beer. We were very pleased with the size/strength of the drinks, the ingredients that went into them were perfect. Really original . For appetizers we had foie gras, prawns, spinach salad and scallops. All of them so delicious. For our main courses we had the ribeye special, gnocchi and duck. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. For desserts pot de creme-smooth and creamy-chocolate gateau, peanut butter, caramel, need I say more? I had the lemon tart-lemony and perfect-and the lemon verbena ice cream. Uh! The absolute best I've ever had. Everyone around us raved about the food. It really was that good.

Had known of Ella's location for sometime, but this was the first visit. For some reason (strip mall location?) had assumed that it was one of many breakfast/lunch "diners" in the area. However, after reading reviews we took our Villanova-graduating niece out for a "last" meal. And, in a word, wonderful! After a dubious start with an over-priced, over-seasoned prawn appetizer, the rest of the meal was delicious. The pork-shoulder gets particularly high marks. Will be going again.

Ella's has been around for some time now but we had never tried it until Saturday night and we realized what a delightful experience we'd been missing. We were greeted warmly and the service was attentive but discrete. The best part was the food itself. From spinach and goat cheese crepes to short ribs, all four of us, enjoyed every bite. Try the charcuterie board with a drink for a shared before-dinner treat. We look forward to our next visit to Ella's. Our thanks to the Chadwick brothers and the entire staff!
