  • "Our business dinner hit all of the right notes. Everyone ordered seafood and savored the perfectly cooked trout, salmon, and scallops. The vegetables tasted fArm fresh. Glad I ordered vodka and tonic (house made) on this especially hot day. A treat you shouldn't miss is SAC."

  • "We were drawn by the bacon and bourbon features and were NOT disappointed. I had the bourbon flight including Rhetoric, Barter House and Pappy Van Winkle. Rhetoric was fine, Barter House was quite nice, but the Pappy Van Winkle was caramel and honey on the nose, with a wonderfully smooth finish. I had the pork chop with citrus grilled endive and creamed corn. The pork chop was juicy and perfectly cooked and the cream corn was tender with the tiniest crunch and perfectly sauced. We relented and ordered the monkey bread for dessert with the vanilla bourbon ice cream - AMAZING!!! The monkey was all delicate cinnamon gooeyness and the vanilla ice cream with bacon bits was the perfect salty/sweet compliment. Hats off, Ella!"

  • "We had another fantastic meal at ELLA. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was superb, Scallops done to perfection, Morro Bay Oysters heaven, Maple Bourbon Oysters the best, delicious Steak. All this heaven on a plate, and they had my all time favorite Blueberry Mojito!! Job well done ELLA!!"

  • "Happened to be in sacramento for bourbon and bacon month. Nothing more to be said. Every bite was amazing, service top notch."

  • "Perhaps it was just the server that I had, but the service was really uncomfortable. The server did not make eye contact, did not smile, did not bring our food out, did not take away our finished plates, took a long time to take our food order and bring our bill after we asked for it, and did not bring bread, salt, or pepper. We had one modification to the food which was not made and the server asked at least 3 times if we wanted appetizers. We left wondering what was wrong with our server and what we did wrong to receive such cold treatment. This is the second time I've eaten at Ella's and the second round of uncomfortable service. Not sure if I will eat there again. I'd rather stick to Selland's, knowing that you're treated like family."

  • "Great decor and outstanding service! The waiters were quick to refill our glasses and always made sure not to interrupt. We felt very welcome and were treated very well. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and informataive. Definitely planning on going back!"

  • "Four of us dined at the Ella. Its modernist style was nice enough. Not many people were there when we arrived at 5:00 pm but even as the place filled up, the noise remained moderate, not distracting. A stellar waitress took care of us by suggesting drinks and meals and delivering food as needed. I rarely drink cocktails these days as they tend to be badly made with artificial ingredients, but those at the Ella are exquisitely homemade with natural ingredients. My favorite was the Elderberry Gimlet. I also thoroughly enjoyed the boar and gnocchi ragout with a hint of truffles. My wife loved the seared scallops. The bread was high quality and kept coming. The desserts were tasty enough to complement the meal. We certainly will go again."

  • "Ella's is easily one of the best restaurants in Sacramento. Service, food, atmosphere, wine list, and great whiskey & scotch list. I had the Wild Boar Ragu, green beans, cheese appetizer, and a desert. All were fantastic. I strongly recommend."

  • "Truly one of the best meals I've ever had; I had the pork chop and it was delicious, tender and seasoned perfectly. The creamed corn served with it was wonderful! It reminded me of the famous corn chowder served at the Ram restaurant many years ago; we would go there just for the soup - just a memory now. My husband had the steak and raved about it. We shared the peanut butter brownie dessert...sooo good! Service was also excellent, we will return. Certainly one of the best restaurants in Sac Town. We had a drink @ the Dive Bar nearby before dinner - a great place for cocktails & the Giants game!"

  • "My wife and I ate there this past Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary. We had eaten there previously about 6 times. We asked for a good table in our Open Table reservation, and we did, in fact get a good out of the way table. The food and wines were excellent. We had the heirloom tomatoes for a starter, and they were exceptional. We then had a dozen oysters on the half shell. Great as well. Our main courses were very good also. My wife had scallops, and I had boar with gnocchi. Overall the food and wine were very good. The service was slow, though. It took a good 20 minutes after we were seated until our server finally got around to taking our order. We didn't see him too much during the meal either."

  • "We knew about the restaurant for a couple of years and finally made the trip (we live in So. CA). The restaurant's design is better than any photos, the service is perfect without being robotic, the menu is short and sweet - a wonderful variety of food items, all beautifully prepared and delicious to eat. The staff really works as a team to service all the guests. The food: my daughter (10 years old) had the chilled soup - loved it, my wife had the tenderloin - loved it, and I had the bacon wrapped trout - loved it and I haven't eaten trout in years (I am not a fan) but the server highly recommended it. Can't wait to return. We all highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "My husband and I went to Ella to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better spot. The service was incredible. The food was top notch and the atmosphere was elegant and romantic. It happens to be bacon and bourbon month and that made the experience even better. We ordered many of the specials for the month and we were amazed at the creativity and the wonderful flavors. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I have been a repeat customer of Ella's but was very disappointed with the Saturday night dining experience. The menu was very limited, the service was not up to normal, the food was just good not very good. As a repeat customer I may have made my last visit."

  • "I love the atmosphere at Ella's. It's sophisticated and elegant, yet not stuffy. The service was outstanding. It was a bit too noisy for my liking, but the group next to us was having a great time. Ella's is my favorite place in Sacramento!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a dinner here, and were pleasantly surprised with the everything from Ella's ambiance and our opening cocktails to our closing dessert. Local, fresh ingredients, an attendant & knowledgable staff, combined with the chef's creativity to make this one of our most memorable dining adventures. We look forward to dining there again."

  • "I would consider Ella the top food experience in Sacramento! All courses were creative, making your taste buds be happy! The service was over the top, haven't had service like this in a long time and the place was busy. The waitress and all the staff(quite a few helped serve us) were very personable, knowledgeable and aware of our needs before we knew what we wanted. Thanks Ella for a wonderful time!"

  • "We eat there on my birthday and was very disappointed. Nice place, but the food was just ok. There are better places to eat in downtown Sacramento"

  • "The food was fabulous. We ordered the toma cheese as an appetizer and were not disappointed. Beef tenderloin and the bacon pork tenderloin were our entrees. Cooked perfectly and melt in your mouth juicy. It was phenomenal! Our waitress was great too, very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. We will be back!"

  • "The menu options are limited. Out server was stretched too thin and was not available, and when he was, he was in a rush to catch up to attend other tables need. Food was interesting and innovative. The restaurant is spacious but there are a few table that are too close to each other. Wine list had a few rare catches that I liked. Overall, a good restaurant in Sacramento but there is room for improvement."

  • "We visited Ella for a birthday celebration. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. The appetizers tasted fine, but were difficult to eat. The Toma cheese was so heavily roasted that we couldn't get it to separate from the board. The bone marrow was delicious, but the bread tasted chewy and old. The entrees were a major disappointment. Scallops were undercooked and my trout was covered with so many other ingredients, you couldn't taste the fish. And, the fish, when alone, was very bland. We then sat with our dirty plates in front of us for 30+ minutes, as our waitress was nowhere to be found. Needless to say, we skipped dessert-- sad for a birthday celebration. Not worth the expense."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dining experience at Ella. Waitstaff were knowledgeable and attentive, food was well prepared and interesting and when the server forgot to mention the corkage fee (which I fully expected to pay) she comped it since she didn't inform us of it - I tipped her on the entire amount PLUS the corkage fee since I didn't ask and as I said, I fully accepted there would be one. We went during Bourbon & Bacon Month (July), and enjoyed a great bourbon bread and baked cheese appetizer"

  • "This restaurant is phenomenal. Service is incredible and the food is fantastic. Exceptional selection of whiskey and amazing gin and tonics."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Ultimately to us, dining at a fine restaurant is about a great meal and Ella did not disappoint in that regard. Our appetizers (small plates on the menu) and entrees were all delicious and creative. The wine list has enough depth and variety to satisfy most wine enthusiasts, along with some great cocktail selections and a variety of top-shelf bourbons and whiskeys. Sadly, while our server was nice enough, slip ups such as bringing the wrong wine to the table and serving lukewarm coffee with dessert -- twice, in fact -- left us unimpressed. The mediocre service keeps us from awarding 5 stars overall. Too bad, because the food was great. But service is part of the fine dining experience, and our service was not great."

  • "We had a delightful evening celebrating a birthday and college graduation. Our waiter was very accommodating - requested a substitution in place of dairy- chef accommodated and presentation was excellent. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. All staff members were pleasant, helpful, and personable. From pre dinner drinks to delightful dessert we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Ella Dining Room!!!"

  • "My Wife chose Ella's because we had not been there for awhile because it's further from home than we often go . Thank god she did because it was awesome. Service was the best we can remember since a Napa experience a few year ago. Highly recommend! Can't go wrong with the Sellands family!"

  • "We have been to Ella quite a few times over the past years, but the past two times were disappointing experiences. Their signature cocktails lacked flavor or originality. An ordinary version of their specialty gin and tonic, for example, would have been far superior. Food is expensive and some of the standard items have been taken off the menu (carbonara, for example). The service was adequate, but should have been much better given the number of staff circling the floor. The bar scene was hopping and folks were having a good time. Not sure that I would rank Ella as the top restaurant in town after these past two meals, though."

  • "My wife and I had a great experience at Ella. From start to finish, we were treated with impeccable service and excellent food. The wine list is really extensive and outstanding. The menu is limited (one page), but the items we ordered were all terrific. Ella is now one of my favorite restaurants in Sac."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner here. Standout dish was the Crispy Pork Belly - Delicious! Service was not quite up to expectations, but I think our server was relatively new, didn't know the menu very well. We were excited to go here after being blown away by The Kitchen (another Selland family restaurant). But afterwards, as said we enjoyed our meal and will come back, but not before we try out other new places we haven't been."

  • "Ella seems like a "wannabe" fine dining experience. All of the elements are there, they just haven't been perfected. I did appreciate the attentive service staff, and the lovely appearance & decor. Yet the tables are placed too close together, so I ended up hearing the entire conversation at the table next to me while I could barely hear my date. The worst part is that the food was only so-so, and I felt let down paying so much for it. I could honestly make better versions of their plates at home. Even the "artisanal" cocktails were just average. So I won't be going back. I do like their other outpost, Selland's, which is more reasonably priced & you still get good food and good service."

  • "Dinner at Ella's feels like going to a party! The food is excellent and features unusual ingredients -- all mentioned in the menu. A nice plus is valet parking since downtown parking in Sacramento is a pain."

  • "Hands-down one if the BEST restaurants in Sacramento! Rave reviews from the entire family (which includes a couple fairly particular eaters). The entire evening was delightful ... gorgeous restaurant; excellent, resourceful staff; attention giving to details; amazing food; great ambiance ... beautiful evening all around. Thanks for a truly fantastic experience"

  • "Ella always has something interesting to offer. The mixed green salad with pistachios was the hit for me. In the past there has always been a vegetarian option but not this night. The chef was accommodating and made something special for us and it was quite good."
