  • "We knew Ella was great and they proved it again during their lobster month. Great cocktails, great service, great food and desserts and all within walk-in distance of our hotel The CiItizen."

  • "We have been dining at Ella's since we moved here from the Bay Area. We love, love, love it! The service is impeccable and the food is to die for. Thanks again for a cherished night out."

  • "I moved to sacramento earlier this summer and Ella is always a favorite to bring friends and colleagues to. One can always depend on the food being great and the ambiance has great energy"
    Dined on 8/22/2014
  • "While the portions are on the small side, the overall food quality is excellent and delicious. One of my favorite places to eat in sacramento. The Menu changes frequently, so there is always something new to try."
    Dined on 8/21/2014
  • "The lobster casserole was good but we missed the Thermidor, the bone marrow was excellent, the pork chop was juicy and cooked to perfection."
    Dined on 8/21/2014
  • "Three of us had lunch. It was Lobster Month at Ella so that's what we ordered. Food was a C at best. Service was an A. Atmosphere was an A. Not very crowded however."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "Ella has never failed me. We went recently for my wife's birthday. The service was outstanding. I am always impressed when my children are treated well. The food great as well. I really enjoy the themes they have. The Lobster Thermidor from lobster month was great. Don't miss the desserts! We don't drink alcohol, but Ella has a very inventive non-alcoholic drink menu. It was a great meal."

  • "I normally rate Ella very highly, but something seemed "off" during my recent visit on a Saturday evening with family. There is usually a monthly menu item that is featured. This time it was lobster. We all ordered either a lobster appetizer or main course. While the presentation was lovely, the taste was bland and blah and the lobster taste was masked by creams and other ingredients. I am referring to the Lobster Thermador. BTW, it was very pricey. I had the heirloom tomato salad, and the tomatoes were tasteless and mushy. Also, the place needs a facelift -- new paint and shine. The ladies room was dirty. After a few years of being a high flyer, perhaps the chef and management need to revisit quality concerns."

  • "Service was pretty good but the food was mediocre. Expected a lot better for the price."
    Dined on 8/16/2014
  • "Extremely overpriced for what you get, I expected more from a Selland's restaurant. The service was extremely slow, we had to ask our waiter to come back to our table a couple of time, none of the food came out at the same time, by the time all of the entrees were on the table the first two people to receive their food was almost cold. I ordered the fried chicken which was a little dry but the house-made tobasco is delicious. For what you get it isn't worth the price."

  • "I had lunch here this past week, and while the food was excellent, the service was really haphazard and slow. It was an hour and 20 minutes from start to finish, and the service was really pretty bad for a restaurant with such great food -- like my lunch date asked for a black napkin, which never came; I had to ask for bread; we had to flag down a server to order. It wasn't crowded, so it's hard to figure out what is going wrong here. The food, however, was excellent. I had the stone fruit and burrata salad and the melon gazpacho, both of which were excellent. My lunch partner had the cheeseburger with gruyere and an egg on top, which he raved about. It's just too bad about the service. It's not up to par for the quality of the fare."

  • "Service was outstanding!! Food was above what we expected!!"
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Food is good, expensive but not horrible. Service is pretentious enough but still not really caring or sincere. Overall it was good, but my least favorite part is it us loud and cold (way over air conditioned) and the tables are crammed together diner style."
    Dined on 8/12/2014
  • "Our favorite restorant in Sacramento, everything outstanding. This time the waiter was a 'nuby' and did't measure up"
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "good selection of quality and interesting entrees with attentive service and enjoyable atmosphere. Lobster specials were notable"

  • "for first time ever i was very disappointed in ella. worst service i have ever encountered, we were talking to our waiter and i guess we got him off his spiel because he actually said to us VERY RUDELY "can i finish now?" once he took our orders never saw him again and really never saw anyone else as i sat all lunch with empty ice tea glass and finally got refill when i got check food was ok--very small very small for $."

  • "Randall has always created greatness. But the real fruit of this tree is consistency. You will NEVER be disappointed because your dining experience especially the quality of the food is outstanding."

  • "I have wanted to dine at The Kitchen for years, and since Ella is run by the same family I thought it would be a more affordable alternative. The food was good, but I wasn't wowed in the least. My husband and I went on a Wednesday night, and there was a vibrant bar scene and a very high noise level. The menu was ordinary, but pricey. We have dined in high end restaurants from San Francisco to New York and Paris and I was hoping for that level of deliciousness, but it just wasn't there. Now I have second thoughts about The Kitchen too. Bummer!"

  • "have been here 3 times since moving to sacramento and every time the food has been awesome! you are welcomed and service is respectful. sometimes a bit too noisy. too bad open table does not recognize for points"

  • "This was my fourth visit to Ella. It was a go-to each time I was in Sacramento. The ever changing menu and pushing the envelope of the culinary experience was always a component to dining along with great decor and energy. This visit was the exception. The menu seemed tired. The restroom had toilet paper lining the floor, no hook for purses in the stalls, and the floors throughout the facility had not been moped in quite some time. It just appeared the attention to details were lacking. For the wine, our server was our guide and selected a mediocre bottle. Food was fine. Service was fine. Decor was fine. It all just didn't amount to what I recall Ella to be. New chef and new Manager?"

  • "Went there for my wife's 50th and the service and food were outstanding as usual!!"
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "We were surprised that two of our four entrees arrived at table several minutes apart from the other two and from each other. Very un-Ella like."
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "We were celebrating two birthdays in our group & thought Ella would be a great place to go. We have always enjoyed the food and ambiance! Unfortunately, the service was HORRIBLE - drinks came late, no one cleaned up the empty glasses and dishes off our table, etc. We ordered two bottles of wine & eventually had to serve ourselves as no one attended to refilling our glasses. We brought this to the attention of the manager & we noticed no difference. Great food & ambiance, but the service was not so great. We'd rather go elsewhere next time!"
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "The experience was excellent as always. My wife and I have been to Ella's before and always enjoyed the overall experience. My wife and I both had the scallops and they were excellent. We enjoy the location, service, bar, and especially the food. The Selland's group has it together to say the least. We will return to Ella's again and again."

  • "My wife and I had a great time. I was hoping that the "Bacon and Bourbon" menu would have been more innovative, nevertheless, the overall experience was very good/excellent."

  • "Dined during bourbon & bacon event - drinks and food were fabulous, as always, as was service."

  • "I made reservations over a week in advance, tho I did increase from 6 to 10 people a day before. Traveling with a professional food group, we are serious eaters and drinkers. We got there at 8.30, we did not have our first drink till 9! We had no food, no orders taken as well. When our 8 bottles of wine finally got their attention, the maitre d or manager, came by to apologize for ignoring us all night, but we felt it was really an empty apology. The food, however, was utterly delicious. I had an heirloom tomato salad that was the best ever anywhere! So crazily, I would go back."

  • "Dinner was excellent and the so were the drinks. Service and atmosphere was great. Try the Bacon wrapped Trout, it is to die for!"
    Dined on 7/30/2014
  • "Our business dinner hit all of the right notes. Everyone ordered seafood and savored the perfectly cooked trout, salmon, and scallops. The vegetables tasted fArm fresh. Glad I ordered vodka and tonic (house made) on this especially hot day. A treat you shouldn't miss is SAC."

  • "Our first visit. Recommended by a friend. Drove from Reno, had a great lunch with excellent service in an upscale setting. My wife and I will return."

  • "We were drawn by the bacon and bourbon features and were NOT disappointed. I had the bourbon flight including Rhetoric, Barter House and Pappy Van Winkle. Rhetoric was fine, Barter House was quite nice, but the Pappy Van Winkle was caramel and honey on the nose, with a wonderfully smooth finish. I had the pork chop with citrus grilled endive and creamed corn. The pork chop was juicy and perfectly cooked and the cream corn was tender with the tiniest crunch and perfectly sauced. We relented and ordered the monkey bread for dessert with the vanilla bourbon ice cream - AMAZING!!! The monkey was all delicate cinnamon gooeyness and the vanilla ice cream with bacon bits was the perfect salty/sweet compliment. Hats off, Ella!"

  • "We had another fantastic meal at ELLA. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was superb, Scallops done to perfection, Morro Bay Oysters heaven, Maple Bourbon Oysters the best, delicious Steak. All this heaven on a plate, and they had my all time favorite Blueberry Mojito!! Job well done ELLA!!"

  • "Happened to be in sacramento for bourbon and bacon month. Nothing more to be said. Every bite was amazing, service top notch."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "Perhaps it was just the server that I had, but the service was really uncomfortable. The server did not make eye contact, did not smile, did not bring our food out, did not take away our finished plates, took a long time to take our food order and bring our bill after we asked for it, and did not bring bread, salt, or pepper. We had one modification to the food which was not made and the server asked at least 3 times if we wanted appetizers. We left wondering what was wrong with our server and what we did wrong to receive such cold treatment. This is the second time I've eaten at Ella's and the second round of uncomfortable service. Not sure if I will eat there again. I'd rather stick to Selland's, knowing that you're treated like family."

  • "Great decor and outstanding service! The waiters were quick to refill our glasses and always made sure not to interrupt. We felt very welcome and were treated very well. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and informataive. Definitely planning on going back!"

  • "Four of us dined at the Ella. Its modernist style was nice enough. Not many people were there when we arrived at 5:00 pm but even as the place filled up, the noise remained moderate, not distracting. A stellar waitress took care of us by suggesting drinks and meals and delivering food as needed. I rarely drink cocktails these days as they tend to be badly made with artificial ingredients, but those at the Ella are exquisitely homemade with natural ingredients. My favorite was the Elderberry Gimlet. I also thoroughly enjoyed the boar and gnocchi ragout with a hint of truffles. My wife loved the seared scallops. The bread was high quality and kept coming. The desserts were tasty enough to complement the meal. We certainly will go again."

  • "Ella's is easily one of the best restaurants in Sacramento. Service, food, atmosphere, wine list, and great whiskey & scotch list. I had the Wild Boar Ragu, green beans, cheese appetizer, and a desert. All were fantastic. I strongly recommend."

  • "Good food, reasonable price and excellent service."

  • "Truly one of the best meals I've ever had; I had the pork chop and it was delicious, tender and seasoned perfectly. The creamed corn served with it was wonderful! It reminded me of the famous corn chowder served at the Ram restaurant many years ago; we would go there just for the soup - just a memory now. My husband had the steak and raved about it. We shared the peanut butter brownie dessert...sooo good! Service was also excellent, we will return. Certainly one of the best restaurants in Sac Town. We had a drink @ the Dive Bar nearby before dinner - a great place for cocktails & the Giants game!"
