We went for a Farm to Fork fixed price dinner with wine parings, and we ordered cocktails from the special drink menu. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she responded right away when I asked her to slow down the meal courses because we weren't in a hurry. Everything was perfectly prepared and arrived at exactly the proper time. Definitely a fine dining evening - cocktails, meal, wine parings, service!

Have always been a Selland's fan. Finally ate at Ella...What a gem! Food was fantastic and fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. Ambiance was just right (not too noisy and not too quiet). Had the Farm to Fork dinner...the salmon was the best I have ever eaten! I just enjoyed the whole experience. This has become my new favorite restaurant in Sacramento!

Came here for a romantic anniversary dinner and could not have had a better experience. Was during Farm to Table and did the prix fixe with the wine pairing and it was delicious. Portion sizes were perfect and everything complemented very well. I wish I could remember our waiters name because he was amazing. Overall a fantastic experience that made a special night even more special.

After a hiatus in dining at Ella, we were very pleased that their food and service remain excellent. It is definitely one of the best restaurants in the Greater Sacramento area. Also, the valet parking was only $5 and very convenient. We will return soon....

It was a great experience. The waitress that we had was very nice and patient. The food was good, as always. I was jealous at how perfectly the salmon was cooked. The top was delicate and super crispy while the inside was cooked just right. The pear tart was wonderful and the vanilla bean pavlova melted in your mouth. We were not rushed at any point, which is a rare experience, sadly enough. The only slight problem was that they kept asking is if me and my friend were celebrating something. Gave the following responses: Not celebrating anything. Celebrating a Wednesday. Celebrating eating out. Celebrating friendship. Celebrating because.

I was very disappointed in Ella's versus the other Sellands Family restaurants. I feel that you are paying for location and decor over Quality/Quantity of food. Everything was good but I was not wowed and for the price there are better restaurants in Sacramento. I would recommend them for happy hour or drinks as the libations were the best part of our night. The oysters were also very good and fresh with good accompaniments. If you truly want a greta dining experience go to the Kitchen or take your money and go to Sellands Market in east sac. The food there is excellent and for what you'll spend at Ella's you can have a feast and a bottle of two of wine.

We went for the prix fixe menu, and were not disappointed. The food was fantastic! Perfect portion sizes, complex dishes, delicious tastes. It is also worth noting that our server was simply phenomenal as well. Never over bearing, always there when we needed him. The other staff (backwait?) were silent but perfectly timed, taking away used dishes, bring clean cutlery and the like. I cannot stress how impressed we were with every part of our dining experience.

I love Ella but can't afford to go too often. During Farm-to-Fork week they had an exceptional prix fixe menu - 3 courses for $45. The flavors in each course were unique and tasty. They accommodated my gluten-free needs easily. Even though the noise level is moderate, the accoustics are so great it was easy for my 80 year old mother to hear the conversation. The service with Wilson was the best.

another great experience with solid food quality and presentation and service! My only suggestion is once one arrives at 6.40 for a 6.45 reservation and there are enough open tables why direct us to the bar ......sometimes if a party is not complete I understand however for a reservation for 2x we prefer to have a cocktail at the table (bar was standing room only)...the hostess insisted we go to the bar! strange.....so I told her if we must go to the bar we go elsewhere so she directed us to our table....and not once said anything more...even the fond farewell was lacking!

This was maybe our 10th time at Ella, and, though I'll admit, based on past experience there, I have elevated the bar very high, this visit was a little disappointing. The food (everyone in our party had the farm to fork special) was quite good--though not inspirational, as I'd hoped. The sevice was just a little off the mark. Three requests to get the somelier over; water, coffee, bread not replenished without asking. It was very crowded, but my experience has been when exceptional restaurants are crowded, that's when they really shine. Not this time.

Hello, we enjoyed our lovely birthday dinner at your restaurant however had some issues that I want to mention the female sommelier did a WONDERFUL job picking a reasonably priced wine for us it was excellent I really take issue with the time this entire meal took. We came in around 6:20 and weren't finished until 9:30...yes we had a lot of courses, but the time in between each one took way too long. I wouldn't have cared much but tables of the same size as ours were seated around us AFTER us, and had departed way before us. This is NOT the first time or I would not be writing this Also my daughter had your special pasta of the night and the portion size was too small. She is not a big eater had it finished in minutes with hardly any pasta

Our experience at Ella's was extremely enjoyable. We started out with their special Ella gin and tonic which was made from home-made tonic and a celebrated special of the restaurant. It was not to our fancy having been used to a traditional G and T with Bombay or Hendricks gin. The rest of the meal from the fresh oysters on the half shell, the soup, tomato heirloom salad, salmon, veal chop and dessert were really outstanding. Add the nice service and it was a great meal. Downtown and special! We are really happy we got to travel from the east coast and experience Ella's.

My husband and I just love Ella! We don't get a chance to dine here very often, but when we do, it's always first rate. Service was superb, from the host who was utterly unflustered and pleasant even though we were late for our reservation and the restaurant was quite busy to our server who provided an excellent wine recommendation and even marked my birthday with a candle in my dessert. The entire staff was very professional and attentive, providing us with a perfectly paced, delicious meal. The food, of course, was just incredible: grilled octopus, Tomales Bay oysters, California King salmon, grilled pork chop, vanilla bean pavlova, tres leches cake! Every course, every item was prepared perfectly. Excellence at every turn.

Ella is notorious for providing great drink, great food, and - most importantly in the Capitol area - a wonderful happy hour! For $5 a glass you get a quality white or red wine, plus with things like grown-up fried chicken fingers, oysters, smoked trout rillette or, my favorite, steak tartare and popovers all around the $10 or less mark, you can afford to have one of their amazing bourbon cocktails (the chef de cocktail is a bourbon afficiando and you can tell!). This place was made for me, let's keep it classy, early, and on the cheap.

I took my friend there for her b-day and I wasn't impressed. The food was good however, the service wasn't great and the area we were seated in was very cramped. The waiter kept running into the back of my friend's chair everytime he had to service another table. Our drinks sat empty for quite sometime. I anticipated receiving excellent service especially given that it was a special occasion, however that was not the case. It would be helpful to address space planning in that restaurant. The hostess was great and the food was good, but again I would expect a certain level of service and ambiance to match the prices charged.

I had an amazing dining experience at Ella. As a regular of their great Happy Hour, I thought I'd give the dining room a try. I asked my server for 3 courses "Chef's Choice." Without hesitation he got to work and started with an Heirloom Tomato Salad with Miso Aioli and Squash Blossom Pesto. Second Course was a Wood Fired Baby Octopus with Cranberry Beans and Poached egg in an iron skillet. Finally, the seared Scallops with lardons were a great end to the meal. Everything was delicious! Wine pairings were well done and service was impeccable. This counts as a true fine dining experience in Sacramento.

This place is lovely, in a modern but not at all stark way. The service is outstanding and friendly. We want to compliment in particular the wine steward, who was very knowledgeable, very good at explaining wine-making esoterica, and not a bit intimidating, even to people like us who tend to be intimidated by wine stewards. That said, they could have screwed up everything else and the food would still have redeemed them. We especially loved the cedar plank toasted cheese, the heirloom tomato salad and the scallop entree.

The four of us loved this dinner at Ella. Dinner entrees weren't too exciting for us, so we opted to have just about every appetizer/small plate available as they all looked promising. Every dish was quite delicious, with the exception of the watermelon and lobster salad. That was probably the most bland of the food we had. Bone marrow was sumptuous as always, as well as the oysters and rabbit sausage. Wait staff were wonderful and quite fun to talk to. We will definitely be back again.

This is our new favorite restaurant. Love everything, very good food, perfect and attentive service, very easy valet parking, fresh crafted drinks & the bartenders work well with special requests. The only thing I would change if I could would be some more intimate type seating and the noise level can really be too much at times when they are really packed for dinner. It's a beautiful restaurant but it seems that it's not the best spot for a quiet or romantic dinner..

We knew Ella was great and they proved it again during their lobster month. Great cocktails, great service, great food and desserts and all within walk-in distance of our hotel The CiItizen.

My husband and I had lunch at Ella's for lobster month -- yum! We shared the lobster cobb salad and had every intention of getting the lobster and shrimp roll... until we saw the heirloom blt on the menu. Had to get and share that instead. Just delicious! The other super delish thing was a "buzz free" cocktail; I had a basil mint lemonade. Just fantastic! It wasn't sweet (which is my usual objection to lemonades), was super flavorful and so refreshing. The service was friendly and excellent. Ella's is a wonderful place for a special occasion or pre-theater dining, as it's right around the corner from the Community Center Theater.
