It looked so pretty that a customer at the next table also asked for one. Our server helped us select wines to our liking and was able to describe wines nicely."

Her customized lamb dish was delicious, and I loved the beef tenderloin. The sorbet and chocolate decadence desserts were also fabulous. I recommend Ella to anyone."

  • "My husband and I almost never get away during the week for a nice lunch out, so it's always a big decision of where to go for the best experience and good food, and this was it. My husband had the open face lamb sandwich (it's lamb month) absolutely delicious ! and I had the Delta Asparagus Sandwich.. ..Amazing Flavor..! We also had Oysters on the Half Shell that we now wish we had ordered another plate of them.....Our waitstaff was great, we never lacked for water or tea refills.........While seating us our hostess even offered me a black napkin since I was wearing black..so nice not to have white lint on me when I left........Great Job Ella."

  • "The design of the dining room enhanced the ambient noise to a level that made it difficult to communicate with my dining companions. Additionally, the excessive noise interfered with my communication with the waiter. Each service staff member had such a limited range of responsibility that I did not know who was serving me or if my requests had been acted upon. There are so many waiters, bar attendants, hostesses and bus people that they have a difficult time coordinating service. This results in gaps or lapses in customer fulfillment."

  • "We used to love Ella's. We decided to take our family there, mostly because we were excited to see bone marrow on the menu. When the bone marrow came it was undercooked, and not good. We totally lost our appetite for it, and returned it. The carrot soup was bland, the steak was average. We were disappointed. Even the salmon just didn't have much wow, flavor-wise. The only dish that knocked our socks off, and reminded us of how Ella's used to be was the little tiny bite sample the chef sent out - it was a mushroom, truffle pasta. We wanted to order that but apparently it was all sold out. Our reservation was a 6:15pm reservation, so we were surprised it was sold out. Dessert wise, the ice cream/sorbets were good, and so was the shortcake."

I had never had sturgeon so I decided to try the roasted beet and smoked sturgeon, it was amazing, I would definitely recommend this salad. I had the cassoulet duck confit for my entrée, amazing flavors, very rich so don't eat too much before the entrée. We had a beautiful evening to celebrate my birthday, we will go back again."

  • "One of the best restaurants in downtown and the primary reason Iook forward to traveling to Sacramento. It is the "go-to" restaurant for my girlfriends and I as we always know we'll have good food and just the right atmosphere. Best dishes are the bone marrow and the beef tartare. Last night I had the duck confit and it could not have been better. Their waiters are really well trained in the wine program and can identify the perfect wine for each course. Love this place"

  • "My wife had been wanting to go to Ella for a long time. It was very nice to experience Ella. Would I go back, only for a very special occasion. Food was really good but there are better restaurants in town that serve similar food for much cheaper. The atmosphere was not totally private feeling for romance but the aire of the restaurant is fancy enough to impress. Just expect to be spending upwards of $100-150 for 2 to really enjoy the food and drink."

We did have a nice table in the back corner which was quite and nice. We ordered a varity of apps and mains to share. The bone marrow and ceder planked cheese were great.   • "I met my grandmother for dinner here. She isn't in town often so we wanted to go somewhere nice. I brought my two kids with me - they have good manners, but they're children, and not all fine dining establishments appreciate seeing the under-12 entourage. Not so at Ella. If they were dismayed at the sight of the shorties, they never let on. The service was flawless throughout the meal. The kids enjoyed special "buzz-free" drinks from the bar, while Grandma and I enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine. The food was perfect. I had the Cassoulet, and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Even though we were stuffed after eating dinner, we couldn't resist having dessert. The carrot cake donuts were wonderful. I can die happy now."

  • "The food and service were excellent.....our table was ready at precisely our designated time, and from that point on the service was attentive and helpful, never annoying or condescending. We opted for the caviar/oyster starter...fabulously presented in a copper bowl with a bed of ice, and garnish....great flavor and texture...dinner was duck, and a beef filet...both were outstanding, sides were an amazing carrot soup, and grilled asparagus...my companion paired her duck with a Tempernillo, which she found perfect. Never rushed, timing of all dishes was excellent...yes the prices are relatively high, but considering the entire experience, worth it. We'll be back. Did I mention the valet was only $5 and conveniently added to the bill"

  • "My squid dish was overcooked and salty. I have had squid many times but never so overcooked as to be completely without texture. Perhaps cooked in a microwave? My other dish, a warmed cheese served with bread was uninspired. It was served with the same bread already provided on the table. That seems unimaginative to me. It should be served with flatbread or elegant crackers or something other than more of the same bread already served. Considering the expense and reputation of this restaurant, I expected better food."

  • "It's a birthday tradition to go to Ella's. The food is superb, the table elegant yet refreshing. The waiters always accomadationing. We were a bit disappointed with the selections this month on the menu, however once we ordered and tasted the items we were not disappointed. The fired chicken is always the best at Ella's. We have not tasted better fried chicken anywhere! The potato fingerlings and heirloom carrots seasoned just right and not overdone. The beef tenderloin sliced like butter and cooked exactly as requested."

  • "Good pacing on delivery of drinks and dinner throughout our 90 minutes at the table. Warm, engaging, knowledgeable server (newer to the Ella team, and a good add at that). Outstanding pistachio/greens salad. Those who had the Jerusalem Artichoke soup were quite pleased. Three orders of salmon and a sturgeon order - a little uneven on "medium" on the salmon among the orders, while the sturgeon was fine. The shaved brussel sprout base for the fish needs a reboot - generally a lump 'o greens too infused with sweetener somewhere in the mix - that detracts from the fish both in presentation and taste. As noted, though, overall 4 * out of 5* for the night!"
