I really like Chip and Jane the owners. We could afford to go anywhere to dine in the Hanover Area but always seem to gravitate back to Elixir even though it is 20 mile from our home. When friends and family come to visit and we ask where they would like to eat, they to pick Elixir. Also, they keep the servers because they know how to run their restaurant.

My wife and I have only been here twice. It is a long way from anywhere if you aren't there already! The first trip was maybe six years ago on the way to Canada; and recently when we wanted a beautiful fall drive. We loved it both times. Everything about this place approaches perfection. When you enter, you find a warm, attractive, not too noisy room. Inventive, flavorful, and attractively (yet unpretentiously) and carefully sourced food is delivered by friendly, helpful, knowledgeable yet unobtrusive servers. We can recommend the chicken liver mouse, the scallops, and the peanut chicken, but everything else looked good, too, as it went by. There are great, imaginative cocktails and fine, interesting craft beers, too.

Up until the mussels arrived as a starter all was fine, they were over cooked , or kept warm not very good at all. The sauce was fine along with the rest of the meal. After my comments the charge was removed from the bill, would I go back there ..... Yes just watch what is served up.

The food was wonderful. The fig appetizer is out of this world. The service was excellent, as was the presentation. I was unaware of the fact that we went on the night of a Northern Stage Performance, therefore it was crowded early and then cleared out. It is not particularly handicapped friendly - there is no ramp to the front door and the handicapped parking spaces are not noticeable as you drive in and the passenger side does not allow much access.

We travel through White River Junction few times a year and usually frequent an Irish pub across the state line. We decided to try Elixir after reading many good reviews and are very happy we did. They have a rather short menu but with something for every taste, along with some great appetizers. Our waitress, Julie, was excellent. The dishes we ordered were excellent as well. Wish we lived closer! We will return when traveling in the area.

We made last minute reservations using Open Table. The restaurant was very busy, but we had a nice draft beer from the bar and 15 minutes later we were seated. The reviews were spot on regarding the menu selections, staff and atmosphere...all being positive. Everything we had was good, not outstanding, but definately good. There was a desparity between items quality...scallops were perfectly seasoned and cooked, however the bed of greens and potato gratin was bland and overcooked. The cream of mushroom soup was just ok, not creamy, but it was well seasoned... worked better as a dip for crusty bread. Dessert was wonderful...Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Mousse, perfectly amazing! Staff was wonderful too! Was good enough to try again!

I was in White River Junction, VT this past week on business and used OpenTable to find a place to eat. I was pleasantly surprised by the Elixir. Set in an old train station, it was a nice cozy restaurant with an interesting menu. I had the baked figs for a starter, and they were excellent. The filet medallions were done just the way I like them and the sauce was excellent. Yaniris gave excellent service. I highly recommend the Elixir if you are ever in this area. It was great fine dining in a small town.

We found this restaurant by accident the first time we visited. Only seats available were at the bar. The bartender Keith is a gem - made us feel welcome and offered great suggestions. Had the opportunity to visit again this past weekend (making reservations). We arrived early hoping to sit at the bar for a bit and chat with Keith again. He greeted us like we were old friends. When it was time to head to our table I almost wished we could have stayed at the bar. The service and food were wonderful and we can't wait to visit again.

Everything at Elixir was sublime! Appetizers: silky cauliflower/chevre soup, cauliflower enriched by chevre; creamy, rich-tasting chicken liver mousse. Entrees: perfectly cooked cocoa-dusted filet mignon; succulent, tenderpeanut-crusted chicken; beef short ribs falling-off-the bone tender with sauce based on a carefully crafted, long simmered stock. Dessert: molten lava cake pure fudge, but with a creamy lightness; creme brulee made me think of a really superb panna cotta, so satiny smooth with such luscious flavor; "bananas foster" bread pudding had dense bread, bananas, and a scrumptious sauce; and the ice cream sandwich featured house-made peppermint ice cream. I have to go back, if just to further explore the outstanding wine list!

Our group of four had a very nice dinner. My wife and I had not been there for about three years. The food is excellent. There is too much bacon and largo on the menu. The small mussels in a red curry broth and the scallops were delicious. The scallops were served with spinach, which I am allergic to. Elixir was very busy, which is welcome. The owner is very nice. There was a lot of noise.

White River Junction may not be known as a bastion of fine dining, but Elixir may change that. Simply but tastefully decorated without a lot of ambient noise that can make it difficult to hold a conversation. The food was scrumptious. I enjoyed every bite and even managed to squeeze in dessert, a warm chocolate confection that lingers in my memory as possibly the best dessert I have ever had.

Elixir is consistently superb. I had a party of six, a mix of international and West Coast guests. The menu is relatively small, but each dish is well-prepared and presented. My party's tastes running from filet mignon to vegetarian (with many of the products locally sourced). Two guests had a special request for preparation of the food, and this was accommodated. The owner/chef, Skip, makes food and service work with style. The wine list has expanded over the past year, but as before Skip selects the wines himself, prices them moderately, and obliges with recommendations. Highly recommended for a romantic party of two or for larger parties of friends and business associates.

My husband picked this restaurant which was 10 mins away from our lodging in Norwich. The menu didn't look all the great but wow! Our food came not too fast or too slow. The food was amazing and portion was huge. I shared my meal with my son (he's not big enough to eat a full plate) and I was still satisfyingly full. I didn't try the drinks but not really a place for someone looking for fruity, iced drinks like daiquiris. The place had high chairs but did not have a change table in the washroom. I would go again but maybe when my son is no longer in diapers or maybe we'll be on vacation without him.

I love this restaurant and I live no where near it. I visit relatives in Vermont (from Florida) and have been there 5 times over the years. There is something unique about the approach to food here. I am vegan and the options for me are some of the best I've had. I never feel like I'm out of place with a flashing sign "VEGAN" hanging over my head. There is a salad for me, and a gorgeous entree (the nori dish). This time, I even had dessert - coconut ice cream with grilled pineapple and cloves. It was stunning. I had a nibble of my husband's chocolate dessert and this was hands down a winner. And even I will admit, chocolate anything is tough to top. The waitress remembered us and the overall experience coming here is just lovely.

I live in Chittenden County and happened to be down in White River for a meeting. I had read some positive reviews on-line about this "hidden gem" and was curious to try it. Elixir lived up to all my expectations and more. The food was interesting and served beautifully and the staff was knowledgeable and attentive. I had the scallops and could not have been happier. I appreciate the graciousness of the owner who came to meet us and inquire about our dining experience. The restaurant is hip and elegant and rivals any of the five star dining experiences I have had in Burlington. Even though it's and hour and 1/2 away, I would drive there in a heartbeat just to eat again at Elixir.

I've been to Elixir at least 10 times. The menu is limited, but they do have specials, usually geared to meet eaters. The truffled fries are excellent if you get there early (the oil gets old later in the evening), and if you can't find something you like on the main menu, you can cobble together a few appetizers. They should take the pancetta out of the risotto cakes (or make it optional). Satisfying drink menu, appropriate pricing, well-cooked food (though if you like bold flavors, you might be disappointed), and friendly staff make this a place worth coming back to--if you don't mind choosing from 6 (7 with the specials) main dishes. Still, it's the best place in the area.
