This beautiful original Art Deco building began as the Lincoln Grill in 1928. Since 1981, it has been The Elite Cafe. Since its inception, The Elite has served exquisite food with the flavors of New Orleans. "Our server was very nice but the food was mediocre at best. The starters are the highlights of the menu the entrees are mostly terrible. The gentlemen who cleared the tables were less than friendly and just reached across us without apology. Would not go back.

It was a special occasion as it was my mother's birthday and they decorated the dessert plate nicely which was a nice touch."

"Before I came to San Francisco on vacation, I read reviews and the menu to choose the right restaurants. Everything said about this one was right. You have to try the deviled eggs - they are amazing, and the biscuits melt in your mouth. I had the Johnny Cakes, which were very good, but my husband had the Jambalaya, which was even better. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is small and cozy. I look forward to my next trip so I can try more of their menu."

"Disappointed. Service was lacking; had to ask for water twice, which still took a while to get. Ordered the $29.00 pork chop. It was disappointing; one small pork chop with a few small potatos and pea puree. I left still hungry. After spending $93.00 for two we left still hungry and disappointed. The Banna Foster with vanilla ice cream was saturated with syrup which was too sweet and killed the desert. Food was only fair being that it did have a lot of flavor and it was cooked perfectly."

"We had friends in from out of town and the hostess provided us with a booth so that we could hear each other and catch up. Our original table in the middle of the restaurant was too noisy. Once we were settled, we had a great time. The food was wonderful down to the last sip of port!"

"Food was simply great. The gumbo was thick and rich and hearty. Steamed mussels, catfish, halibut all excellent. The biscuits and the cornbread, to die for, and the pecan pie among the best I've ever had. I've been to New Orleans, and this is authentic cajun/creole cuisine at its best."
