The restaurant also offers a very detailed a la carte menu which changes seasonally. "Everything was superlative, including the wine parings with the tasting menu courses. At $75, the tasting menu is a fabulous deal. The goose liver custard brule was amazing. The service was formal but warm."

"Food and service generally very good, but overpriced, especially for lunch. Bread, other than olive which is very good, needs to be improved. The wine by the glass is ho-hum. The veal cheek appetizer was wonderful. The skirt steak sounded better on paper than in reality, though spinach polenta was interesting twist. My husband's is better."

"All three of us enjoyed very much our dishes (fish, porchetta, and pasta with duck filling) the sides we ordered were delicious too, specially the mushrooms. We'll go back again and the portions were larger than at Fiola. This restaurant is very good and unfortunatelly it is not well known yet."

"I've eaten lunch at Elisir three times now and have been VERY impressed. Excellent food and very attentive service. The octopus is the best in DC (I have a greek background so am very picky on this point) and the rest of the food has been great, too. I also like being able to see into the big kitchen while dining. I'll be back!"

"The 4 of us had the tasting menu for my bday. It was outstanding! Everything was imaginative and delicious. Our servers were attentive and knowledgeable. Our favorites were the goose liver brule, duck ragu in pasta pouchette, & confit strawberries. The salmon was pretty good, but we would have preferred another pasta because it's an Italian restaurant and the one pasta dish we got was amazing so we wanted to see more. Thank you also for my signed card! I will keep it always. We will definitely back."

"It is a wanna-be El Bulli but far from achieving it. Creativity can only be apprceiated when accompanied by quality. We were all served with imaginative dishes but none impressed us in terms of taste. Some dishes were way too salty, and too many mixture of ingredients were killing each other, not helping each other. It was as if listening to Siberius and Puccini all in one room. Tasting menu had too much sweets elements to the extent to destroy the main ingredients.
However credit to the fresheness of ingredients, the creative drive of the cheff, ambience and decor, and attentive service staff. The room was not as noisy as other restaurants in the area."

"Service wasn't as good as previous visits. For example, we ordered the fabulous tasting menu, but the first course arrived before the wine. As our guest commented, you should never allow a course to be served without the diners having something to drink with it. And, later, after we'd reminded the server we had ordered the wine pairings to go with the tasting menu, the wrong wine arrived with a course. The staff seemed a little off that night, but it could be that they were training one or two new servers and it certainly was not anything we had experienced before. This is a new restaurant and overall, it is a fun and rewarding dining experience!"

"It isn't often that one finds such attention to detail in a restaurant. Elisir pays attention to every detail. The food is most memorable. A faint aroma of hickory smoke reached our table and we commented on what dish that would be - several minutes later our dinners arrived. The perfect orbs of potatoes on my dining partner's plate had the slightest hint of smokiness. And those were just the potatoes!
The staff is excellent - present, but not hovering or distracting, and always professional.
I highly recommend an evening at Elisir."
