A word from Elephant Hut
Elephant Hut is named after a herd of elephants that King Mongkut of Thailand offered to President Lincoln during the Civil War. The restaurant presents a modern but authentic approach to royal Thai cuisine, served in an art gallery of paintings done by skilled Thai elephants. The menu is inspired by culinary wisdom found along Thailand’s Floating Markets, rivers and canals, where farmers and merchants sell produce and prepare foods from small wooden boats. The dishes are prepared with royal, street and boat recipes dating back to 18th century Bangkok. Picture an abundant farmer's market filled with home-made foods, vibrant flowers, and exotic fruits," said chef and owner Pi Kasemsant, who is a descendant of King Mongkut of the musical "The King and I" and the film "Anna and The King."

We went to the Elephant Hut for dinner and on a Friday night at 6:30pm. They were out of half their menu. The food was not flavorful and was just ok.

Food was good, especially the soup and the yellow curry. Way overpriced even though portions were generous. I just don't think the overall experience would tempt me back.

We were very excited to try Elephant Hut, but were terribly disappointed by the experience. First and foremost, the service is just awful. Throughout our entire meal, our drinks were not refilled. The cuisine was, at best, good, but nothing to write home about. Most certainly not worth the $15 an entree price. And then there was the fact that we were told by the owner that even though we had a reservation, he needed us to finish our dinner within the next hour as he had another party coming in and wanted to seat them at our table. We will not be returning to Elephant Hut.

Light and airy feel to the restaurant - love the glass with inlay dividers between tables. Food was light, fresh, and flavorful. Tom Ka soup was great as was the Taste of Greens. Service was fast and he was very helpful in making menu selections. I will definitely return.

For Thai restaurant, they had surprisingly few gluten-free options and only one salad dressing, which had peanuts in it. I should give them credit for trying, as they made a salad dressing without the peanuts/gluten. Not good. :( Only one waiter on a Saturday night and he didn't seem to know much about the menu. If you have food allergies I'd stay away.

The food is very good, I come here for lunch at least once per month. The service can be a bit inconsistent, for example sometimes the waiter has forgotten to bring us our drinks. In spite of the service, I like the food, the decor and the ambiance so I continue to go back to this restaurnt. I would recommend it to others. My favorite dishes are the currys and the pad thai.

Had been meaning to try Elephant Hut for some time now; it's kind of out of the way for me. The owners have invested quite a bit in the restaurant, which has lovely, clean decor. The service was excellent. The food was very good, although muted for the American palate, presumably. I really enjoy spicy Thai dishes. The entree I ordered was marked as spicy, but the heat was not really noticeable. I will go back nonetheless. Quite an enjoyable experience.

It was so sad to be at a restaurant on a Saturday night and be the ONLY people in the place! Their food is SO good, everyone should head there! Maybe it's their off the beat location? There's so little GOOD thai in Boulder....we have to get this restaurant more support!

I'm reviewing for a party of 20. Our group had a wonderful time. Your food was excellent, and the flourless chocolate cake that came with mango sorbet was too die for. Service was on the slow side, but overall we had a great time. The best Thai restaurant our company has visited in Colorado. Thank you.

This was my fourth visit to Elephant Hut and I have always had uniformly excellent food, including some preparations not found in typical Thai restaurants; the soups, for instance, are exceptional. However, the service on this visit was so substandard, that had I experienced it on my first visit I would not have returned. After waiting more than a half hour for soup to arrrive, I inquired and was told that there was only one chef on duty to feed the full restaurant; but now that a second had arrived, service would speed up. A few minutes later the soup arrived (not particularly hot) and then, a few minutes after that (long before we had finished our soup) the main courses arrived. May the quality of service rise to that of the food!

This was my second visit. The food was not quite as freshly prepared, but still very tasty. The broccoli was obviously cooked in advance and added to the dishes after we ordered them. Broccoli suffers particularly. My entree was quite hot/spicy which was not noted on the menu, but the waiter quickly whisked it away and it came back promptly without that problem. There was a new menu with a number of imaginative dishes. Everything we tried was very tasty, from appetizer to dessert.

The food was wonderful as I have come to expect from the Elephant Hut. My wife and I dined there on Valentine's Day and it was a great experience. But we made note that the staff was a pretty slow that night. Maybe it was because you were short staffed that night. Otherwise a good experience.

Took my wife here on the Sat before Valentine's Day, it was early so it wasn't that crowded. The interiors had some interesting details and art work painted by an elephant (there was a video of this playing over the bar that I kept staring at because I've never seen an artistic elephant before). Our server was OK, maybe had too many tables?? or something but didn't notice that our drinks were empty. After trying to make eye contact for a while I gave up on beer #2. Another server delivered the food and I should have maybe asked him. Wife loves Thai and it was good so we will probably add it to our Boulder rotation. When I asked server where the IPA came from (just said Colorado IPA on list) he said "I think India".. It was actually Odell

The staff gave the impression that they really cared about the food they served. Perhaps a little on the pricey side but the overall experience was worth it. The place was thoughtfully decorated. Service was OK, a little tardy at times but the restaurant was very busy. I'd return there to eat, just to confirm my initial positive impressions.

Interesting, beautiful decor unlike other restaurants. We reserved a table for 12 and were seated in a nice corner and served promptly. The management rearranged the sliding dividers to cover both ends of our table, making it private (very thoughtful). The food was delicious as well as pleases the eye, and the wine/beer list was decent, however not comparable to Frasca, Flagstaff, or the Kitchen. (Every bottle was offered by the glass and as much as I had seen, Elephant Hut does offer a better selection than all Asian restaurants in town.) The management seemed to focus on food and service, and while both were excellent, I felt that a more complete beverage selection would seal the deal, making this place "the" Thai restaurant to be.

My husband and I have dined at the Elephant Hut twice since it opened. Both times we found the food to be tremendous. While the menu appears small, there is, in fact, a wealth of choice and every dish we have sampled has led us to feel that this is the best Thai restaurant we have dined at in years. The authenticity of the spicing offers the entire medley of Thai flavoring - which it is famous for. And, we must say that we feel the $ value of the menu - that is, the pricing is very reasonable. This is simply superb Thai cuisine, in a delightful environment, artfully presented and quietly served. We just hope the restaurant can survive its off the beat location and the economy. We heartily recommend the Elephant Hut to all.

Our party went to the elephant hut for birthday celebration and everything was excellent. Despite some minor language barriers, the female Thai waitress was very attentive and hospitable. The chef sent out a special candle-lit Thai dessert and we learned from our waitress that the owner and chef is in his 20s. The menu here was somewhat limited in comparison to other Thai restaurants, but every dish was unique and colorful. The curries were fantastic and the appetizers were delicious and fun. There was a huge orchid arrangement at the restaurant and the fried wontons were shaped like orchid flowers. The Thai flourless layer cake was so delicate that we could peel each layer off. This place is definitely different, in a very good way.

We went for a Fathers' Day celebration (on a Saturday) and had a great time. The decor is wonderful and so is the food and the flatware (made in Vietnam). Simply one of the best and the cleanest Thai restaurants around. Our group was vegetarian and the restaurant's vegetarian selections were excellent - no broccoli or carrot here, as the chef told us he preferred authentic Thai veggies. We really enjoyed our evening. Elephant Hut is far and away the best Thai food I've had in Colorado. The flavors are remarkable and nuanced, the atmosphere -- replete with many paintings done by elephants -- is both beautiful and relaxing and the service is spot on. The care that's taken in producing each dish is very evident, many are plated on dishes the shape of an artist's palette. Check it out; you won't be disappointed!
