My starter was excellent -- tuna tartar, with perfect avocado circling it. BUT, my seafood hot pot contained some scallops that were so salty they were hard to eat & they made the broth too salty to drink.

We've been to this restaurant many times. The food is always excellent. Usually, the service is good too, but on this visit, we encountered a problem with trying to add funds to our wine card. The process took more than 15 minutes, all while half our party had wine and the other half was waiting for the card to be returned to us. It was an awkward extended pause to a celebratory evening. It would have been a nice touch if the restaurant's management had offered us a small discount or free glass of wine for our inconvenience, but they did not, even though they were aware of the problem. Eventually, the issue with the wine card was worked out, but it marred an otherwise excellent meal.

5 of us dined on a Monday night. The place was buzzing from a largish party - a lot of wine seems to cause people to shout rather than talk. The menu allows for a lot of different experiences. The food was well prepared and delicious - lots of different flavors in each dish. Wine list was also varied and moderately marked-up over retail. Service as a bit slow, but courteous.

We shared our dishes, one appetizer, one main course and one dessert. The amount of food was more than enough and the quality was very high. Our appetizer was very good and the portion large but the standouts were the main course of 8 delicious, gigantic prawns and the coconut cake, not like anything we have had before, was especially delicious. The cake portion was enough that it did not seem that we were sharing, but each having a full dessert. The restaurant is beautiful and we will be back. Although the prices might seem a bit high (just a bit), the large portion size offsets that. It is rare to dine in such a fine restaurant with such high quality food and get enough to eat. There is more than enough to eat at Elements.

The food here is fabulous. Maybe it's just as we get older, but we find it a distraction when it's hard to hear one another in conversation. We had the special...the red snapper, which was fresh and tasty. We will return but perhaps at an hour when it's likely to be less noisy.

We had a good dinner, and there were some creative dishes on the menu. We were disappointed with a few aspects of the service. We were not confident that the server really understood shellfish allergies. One of our main dishes was served about 5 minutes before the other, unusual in a restaurant of this caliber. Then I ordered a cognac with our dessert and coffee. Dessert and coffee both came and were finished completely. Only then did the server bring the cognac. We thought it had been forgotten and said we would rather not have it now as we were ready to go home. The bartender told her we had to take it because he couldn't put it back in the bottle. A little more training for bar people and servers would be helpful.

You can add Elements to the growing list of really good Chapel Hill-Carrboro restaurants. I was here right after it opened and it needed some work. Now, some two years later it seems to have gotten the bugs out (caveat: we were here late and the place was almost empty, so I don't know how it would function if it were busy). The food can best be described as Asian fusion and it is very good and rather eclectic. Everything we had, including a vegetarian option, was excellent. The wine list was quite interesting as well. The room is very pleasant and there is an attractive outdoor space. The service seemed good, as well, recognizing the place was near empty. I'll be back.

Dinner was excellent. Fresh ingredients prepared well with just the right amount of seasoning to bring out the natural flavors of the food. I had the viet rolls and the Pacific Rim Pan Roast. Both were excellent! The one disappointment was dessert - a very dense coconut cake. I was expecting a light more intensely coconut flavored dessert. Other than dessert it was a great meal.

Another wonderful meal -- Jujube Duck (not named for the restaurant across the street) was excellent, as was the Beef Wellington special -- followed by an exquisite 7-layer coconut cake. Great wine to accompany the beef. Ended up buying a bottle to go, at 30% off. another memorable evening! Thank you, Chef Chuong!

This was our first visit, which came highly recommended from friends. Wine was delicious and the waitstaff very courteous. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment, especially for the price: for example, the duck I ordered was extremely tough - it was difficult to cut (even using steak knife provided), harder to chew and I ended up having to leave over half of it on my plate. Our server noticed the plate and offered to explain to the chef about the duck. I think the bigger disappointment was the chef's response - that he prepared the duck appropriately. Period. No remedy offered. No acknowledgement that this particular duck was tough. Both dessert and coffee that followed were old. This meal for 2 was over $100 & overpriced.

What this restaurant lacks in ambience it makes up for in taste. Everything on the menu is unique and delicious. The inside of the restaurant always seems noisy (no rugs or sound barriers) and always seems chilly. The lighting is nice but the inside decorations need a little more updating. There is a new outside area to grab a glass of wine and sit around a fire - not sure how warm it will be in the winter if you are at a table without a heater. Like the first line said, taste buds will be excited but the eyes will be lacking in excitement and make sure you have nothing serious to discuss due to the noise level. I would still go back (and have) because the menu changes every season and their chef is amazing!

From A to D (appetizers to desserts), everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Even the cocktails were fun and flavorful! My wife and I shared each of the plates we ordered, and from the first to the last, things just got better and better. From the Small Dishes, we shared the tempura asparagus, Viet rolls, beet salad, and pumpkin bisque. Our one entree was the walnut prawns. For dessert, we had the coconut cake and the pumpkin bread pudding -- a great finish to a great meal! Every bit as enjoyable was the service! Elizabeth was warm and friendly and very attentive, as were all who served us that evening (my water glass was never empty!). We will gladly make the drive to Chapel Hill again... and again! Thank you, Elements!

The restaurant was extremely loud. At times very difficult to carry on a conversation with the person sitting across the table. We asked the waiter for a few minutes to review the menu before placing our order. He disappeared for about 30 minutes. After placing our food order it was 45 minutes before we sere served. While waiting for food we requested a second bottle of wine from the waiter and had to remind him after a long wait of our request. The biggest cause of my dissatisfaction was the 22 oz Black Angus steak special. It was specifically stated to be 22 oz. What came out was 10-12 oz of bone and the remainder a very fatty piece of meat. Overall not a very pleasant dining experience.

The refurbished, since the flood, dining area is beautiful. The service was really over the top in its caring and as usual the eclectic but very satisfying menu proved terrific to our return visit and to those we brought here for the first time. A tad pricy for every week dining but great for the quarterly dinner experience in addition to any special occasion.

The food we ordered was very good except for the baby back ribs we ordered as an appetizer. They were tasty but not very tender at all. My wife ordered a dumpling dish that tasted fantastic and I had filet tips that were very good as well. Our waitress seemed new and unfamiliar with the dishes. Service was slow, but we were not in a hurry so this did not bother us too much. We sat outside and vehicle noise was a slight distraction, but otherwise pleasant.

We were a party of four celebrating a birthday and our visit proved to be very enjoyable. We very much liked the layout and the ambiance of the restaurant. The menu was sufficiently diverse so that everyone could find dishes to their taste and the food was very good. Service was initially very good but follow up was variable; however, we were in no hurry and the restaurant was very busy. Certainly worth a return visit.

Four friends and I gathered for lunch at Elements this past week. We had very good service and the server did not balk at producing five checks. My fried oyster salad was excellent in both visual appeal and taste; the dressing was light but had a nice zing to it. The oysters were still hot when the salad reached the table. Others at the table had the Pad Thai, the salmon caesar salad, and the Cobb salad -- all enjoyed their meals. We will be back.
