A word from Elements Restaurant
Executive Chef Scott Anderson chose the name "elements" for the restaurant because he is passionate about sourcing fresh, local, organic ingredients and sustainably raised meats and seafood. He wants the very elements of your meal to play a major role in the taste of it. Then he and his team work to reveal the complementary flavor dimensions inherent in the elements by skillfully combining them—often in edgy new ways. Restaurant menus change constantly here, making this the dinner restaurant that is excitingly different every time you return.

If you're a foodie, you want to know where—and how--your food grew. It's fascinating, it's a good health practice and it provides extra pleasure from everyday experiences, like a meal with friends. elements is the American restaurant serving local steak and seafood, but with global influences in seasoning and cooking methods.   • "My original review was too long apparently, so here is my condensed version: Decor - Lovely. Lots of attention to detail, a beautiful restaurant inside and out. Service - Very good. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, as was the sommelier who assisted us with our wine selections. Food - Lacking. I was really looking forward to dining here, but I was extremely disappointed. I felt like perhaps the Chef was trying a little too hard to be edgy and different. Flavor combinations did not always work, grains/nuts felt like they were afterthoughts, and 5 out of our 6 entrees came to the table luke-warm to cold - maybe a backup at the expediting table? It just fell a bit short for a restaurant of this caliber/reputation."

  • "If you're looking for an unusual dining experience with an adventurous menu, Mistral (same owners) in Princeton is a far better bet. Elements takes itself too seriously and the food, while interesting, was not as exciting as expected (for the price). The service was rather awkward, and atmosphere, on a Friday night, was non-existent. No music, chilly temperature and terrible lighting. Mistral, on the other hand, is vibrant, energetic with much better ambiance, and there is magic being made in the kitchen. Elements is disappointing."

  • "4th or 5th time to elements and as always amazing food. This is the first time we let the bar creat some surprise cocktails - result: I'd rather drink what the bartenders can make then pay almost twice as much for small glasses of wine. But their wine selection is great if wine is your only interest. Desert was different this time. While they are good it's more like the chief is trying to challenge you to what is actually a desert. Bottom line go with an ice-cream if you need something light."

  • "This was our second tasting menu foray and the staff at Elements did not disappoint. Each course was a wonderful blend of flavors and textures supported by a very friendly and attentive staff. Rather than go through each course I'll describe a few highlights. The langoustine with quince purée and a slice of truffle was exquisite. Another gem was roasted sun chokes and maitaki mushrooms served with an aronia berry purée. We somehow made room for desert which was a chocolate ganache and pistachio cake topped with house made brittle and buckwheat ice cream which was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal."

  • "We four started with tasty cocktails. I love blood oranges and that cocktail was one tasty number. The amuse bouche was a delicious swordfish croquette. We had the beef tartare appetizers and shared them with our spouses who weren't fans but I did think it was good. Entrees were outstanding. We had the beef short ribs, prime rib, pork chop, and halibut. Everyone was silent for the minute after taking the first bite to savor it. Dessert was the cheesecake that each couple shared. Everything was beautifully plated and service was amiable. I will remember this meal. We came all the way from Sussex County to spend time with our friends in Princeton and we look forward to another time."

  • "Had dinner there with my wife for Valentine's Day. I expected that the expanded bar area would be an improvement, but all it really did was add commotion and noise to an already crowded entry area. I realized that Valentine's Day would be crowded, and I was ready for a wait. We did not get seated for almost an hour, and the first table was upstairs right by the service area. Oddly, there were 4-5 open tables upstairs, so I have no idea why we were waiting. After requesting a better table we were seated downstairs in a better spot. The service (even after our long wait) was slow, and only moderately professional. If Elements wants to charge NYC prices (it does), then they need to be much better than this night. I won't be back."

  • "Elements is pricey, but worth every penny. We had a marvelous 5 course tasting menu on Valentines Day. Delicious and well-considered pairings of wine with each course. Wait staff was knowledgeable, personable and attentive. Tables were not bunched together and service was not rushed (as happens often on this day). We have come here many times over the years and have always had a superior dining experience. We will not hesitate to come back."

  • "The tasting menu was exquisite, and the wine pairings were unusual and well matched. My husband had the Wagu beef from Japan and it literally melted in his mouth. As usual the desserts were wonderful, then the most amazing and unusual chocolates arrived! I would highly recommend this restaurant even to people who dine at the best restaurants in NYC (which we do occasionally)."

  • "I got a gift certificate for my birthday to go to Elements and went there with my husband. On a positive note: our server was informative and attentive. We were served a complimentary beet soup with a bit of creme fraiche which was delicious. My hamache tartare appetizer was outstanding, The pork I had (which was local, I was told), was well-prepared. The issue with Elements for me was the atmosphere and noise. I felt like I was eating in a hotel lobby. The lighting was dim and it was noisy. The whole mood in there was cold and impersonal, and unfortunately it detracted from the experience. Despite the good fare, I'm not sure I would return."

  • "I'll just address some points in prior reviews 1) small portions : The appetizers perhaps could be deemed somewhat small, but the black bass & delmonico steak entrees were both reasonably large. I think the problem is the wide range of portion sizes in the US. Most chain places are absurdly large (just ask your overseas friends when they visit) and the haute cuisine places preposterously small. I was worried that Elements would be the latter, but this was not the case. 2) Tableware : the knife is awkward. When the handle is flat, the blade is on edge. Does not want to play nice. But the entree plate is the real issue - three forks slid off the plate during dinner and onto the floor. An expensive & quite enjoyable dinner. Very creative food."

  • "Elements is tucked away in a residential neighborhood. It was extremeley busy when we went on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. The food is interesting and best for the adventurous. Dont expect food to be the same as you are used to. I liked it but not everyone would. It is a must try at least once. However the restaurant was overbooked and understaffed. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable but he was very inattentive because he had to serve so many tables. Not his fault. For such an expensive restaurant this was not ok. The restaurant decore was unattractive. There were no white tablecloths on the tables. No little vase with flowers. Nothing. It does not have a feel of i care about my customers comfort or eye appeal."

  • "First the server with his sleeves rolled up looked rather unkempt. I asked him what dishes were included on the tasting menu and was told the chef likes to keep that a secret. I therefore avoided the tasting menu. I then order a venison tartar appetizer, some lentil soup and a main course of pheasant. The venison was quite good, the soup was bland and uninteresting and the pheasant came in four small pieces two were cook one was slightly under cooked and one was rare. When I told the server I was done because I couldn't eat rare pheasant he unapologetically picked up the plate and walked off. For dessert I requested one scoop of homemade coffee icecream. It was devoid of flavor. I don't plan on returning."

  • "My husband and I had reservations for the second seating on New Year's Eve. Our overall experience was very good but the service was very slow. We waited for 15 minutes after being seated to receive menus. Our order was not taken for another 20 minutes. The meal consisted of 7 courses (which were delicious) and once the food started coming the service improved. My observation is that the restaurant seemed understaffed for the occasion. We have eaten at Elements several times and I would highly recommend it. I'm hoping that this service experience was a one time event."

Prior to our appetizers we received a warm click pea soup from the chef - wonderful - and following dinner a small assortment of pastries from the pastry chef - again wonderful. The food is pricey but very nicely prepared. We will definitely go again."
