Diner Reviews
  • "Had a good meal, though portion sizes struck me as a little modest for the price (and I am not a huge eater). Very friendly service, though perhaps a little overenthusiastic in recommending some of the dishes, which weren't quite as good as the description made them sound. Could invest in a high chair or two....Overall, a good experience."

  • "A very striking decor; modern and industrialist. The kitchen view was great, seeing the food prepped. The noise level was very high. Normal conversation was difficult, too loud for me to consider this a romantic restaurant. The food was intriguing, though maybe more edgy than I was in the mood for. I had the chicken, which had good flavor but a lot of pink and even red meat. I'm sure it was safe, but I just couldn't bring myself to eat the really red stuff. My companion had the steak, which was good, but nothing that blew me away. I had read about a deconstructed Pay Day bar for dessert, but they had changed the menu by the time I ate there. Ended up skipping dessert as the descriptions on the menu just didn't do anything for me."

  • "I visited Element with a male friend last Friday night. He arranged a special surprise upon my arrival and worked with the staff the day before our reservation to make it happen. The staff pulled it off beautifully and without a hint of suspicion on my part. The staff was attentive but not annoying and we enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the meals in a controlled but natural atmosphere in the open kitchen. The food and menu choices were very enjoyable and will bring us back to this restaurant in the future."

  • "Our waiter was outstanding and the food was fantastic in the restaurant. We went to the Lounge afterward to drink a bottle of wine and received some pretty awful service unfortunately. I'd go back but will skip on the lounge next time."

  • "When you check the menu online, make sure you're checking the day that you dine because the items change daily. I was ready with my order only to discover that it was no longer an option and I just was't too jazzed with the new menu items. The staff was very friendly but what really drew me in was the ambiance! It was kind of dark and swanky and I really enjoyed the open kitchen. I will definitely visit again because while I wasn't enthused about what was on the menu that night, it obviously changes often and the food was very good even if it wasn't exactly what I was expecting!"

  • "Element had very good food but I felt the menu was somewhat limited with very small portions. If you have a big appetite, this is probably not the place to go. The venue is worth checking out and there are pretty neat views of the city. Also, I was told by an employee of Element that while there isn't a dress code, people generally wear "business casual". On a Saturday night, it seemed most people observed that - however, there were people in shorts, t shirts, and hats. Certainly didn't bother our group, but it isn't an overly dressy place either. The staff was extremely courteous and our server -Allison- was exceptionally nice and helpful"

  • "Eclectic menu showcased Dungeness crab. A bit of work, but delicious. Tile fish also prepared beautifully. Oysters perfected fried. Rooftop has a lovely view. Come here to be dazzled."

  • "Very enjoyable meal. Would like to go back gir dinner and drinks."

  • "Element is another fine example of taking existing St. Louis architecture and using it for a great restaurant space! I made reservations and the restaurant was kind enough to call to make sure I would still be coming. The menu has a great variety of items to choose from, whether appetizers or entrees. Our server was very attentive and never missed a beat. Our food was well prepared, had great presentation and great flavor. Don't delay in deciding on whether you want the evening special. Quantities are limited (found out the hard way). Overall a great experience I would highly recommend and will experience again myself."

  • "I've been looking forward to checking Element out since learning it was opened. Our experience was mediocre & not what we've come to expect in the food scene in St. Louis. The spring salad was tasty, & the highlight of the meal, with generous amounts of fluffy ricotta and fresh veggies. My pork dish came out lukewarm, bordering on cold & my friend, who requested her steak medium, was handed a blood red preparation of the dish. Our other diner had pork that came out pink, also very concerning. The host did more for service for our table than our waitress who was largely absent & not well versed on the menu and wine. If you don't know how to talk about food or wine, upscale restaurants probably aren't the place for you to earn a living."

  • "A bit too noisy, tho the crowd was 30 and forty somethings. Too loud for my older husband and self. It was difficult to find the entrance. The food was interesting: good, but not very good. Might be interesting for Foodies."

  • "we were pleased with the preparation, quality and plating. very friendly and the open kitchen is very attractive. somewhat unusual selections but very tasty. I had lightly breaded oysters and a prime rib special which quickly sold out. deserts are very well done and creative. Lot of fun and the bar/lounge upstairs is great."

  • "While I have not tried Element for dinner yet it is one of my new favorites for lunch. It has some traditional dishes but with a twist. My favorite is shrimp and cheddar grits with a tangy BBQ sauce that delivers some heat. I get it on the side so I can control the amount I get."

  • "Our server, Adam, was very good. He provided us with suggestions and explanations of menu items and went out of his way to get us the best wine for our taste."

  • "Went with two friends because we had heard such great things about this place. Food was very good, our server was a bit much, interrupting far too many times. He was almost begging us to tell him how great the place, food and drinks were. It got to the point that we were starting to get annoyed as he was interrupting out flow of conversation. The noise level was off the charts by the end of our meal. We had purposely gone earlier to try and avoid this, but it didn't work. I' wondering how it would be if we were outside, and might give that a try this summer."

  • "The food was good, service a bit too attentive, but the noise level was over the top. Hard to have a pleasant dinner conversation when you had to shout. Definitely a "hot spot" for dining Saint Louis, but I'll go elsewhere for dinner when I want to visit with friends. Cocktails were really good but over priced for volume."

  • "Be sure to ask how the food is prepared as it may not be a simple as indicated on the menu. Don't expect large portions but do expect innovative plates. Overall the food was good, the wine menu is limited. I had the Rabbit Loin, which was ground rabbit with some ground pork and made into medallions, the meat was slightly over cooked, thus a little dry. Dining companion had the oven roasted young chick which was very good. We were going to the theater and were able to get out with time to spare with a 6:00 reservation. We enjoyed the interior space and overall vibe. Went on a Tuesday and was not busy, picked up around 7:00, but still not busy. Did not have a chance to visit the bar and the outdoor space was not yet open."

  • "We had reservations at 8:00 and by that time they were out of 3 main entrees. Poor planning!!! I think the fact that you have to pay for bread is just crazy. It's nothing to write home about. We didn't receive our food till 9:30 which was way too long and when we did the portions are so small. All 4 of us were still hungry. I am not a big eater either and I was starving. The manager did come over and apologized for the long wait. We were hoping to get a free dessert but that didn't happen. We didn't order dessert for fear that we would have to wait another hour. we were out of there!!!!! Won't be back!!!!! Leslie Bono"

  • "We had an early Saturday night dinner. The bread was warm on top, refrigerator cold on bottom. Entrees came with similar problems. My sauces and veggies were warm, my pork was cold on the same plate. My friend had the same problem with her chicken. The people sitting next to us ordered the crab. There were no appropriate utensils to crack the shell or picks to get the meat out. Neighbors of mine a few tables over had the reverse problem with their entrees, the protein was hot and the veggies cold. The service was fine and the food tasted good. The manger handled our problem reasonably well. There are too many good restaurants in town to have to put up with this."

  • "The food, service and atmosphere were great! This is a hidden gem, in the City of St. Louis. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "Element served us both in equal measure. Watching the kitchen, considering food pairings and preparations was interesting. Service was welcoming, attentive and efficient. Thank you Emily and Friends. The reason one goes to a resturant though is to dine. From the small plates to our entreés, we each were far from impressed with the flavors and textures on our plates. The pickled fennel on the scallops small plate was the brightest note in the evening. The goat cheese on the vegetable small plate was a delight but there seemed to be flaws in all else such that we four declined dessert in favor of the red jello at home. Element was an expierence not to be repeated."

  • "I had a business lunch with my husband and two others and made reservations for Element one of St. Louis' new restaurants that has received a lot of buzz. Enjoyed the open kitchen. Can be a bit noisy if you sit right by it. The food was perfectly prepared and presented. Shrimp and Grits with a light BBQ sauce came with salad , a salad with fresh salmon, a burger with homemade fresh bun with dipping sauce and a side of generous crispy fries were all delicious. I had the fried chicken with mac n cheese and green beans. The best fried chicken I have ever had. Crispy, drizzled with real maple syrup with the breast portion de-boned and juicy inside. Mac n cheese light with perfect creaminess and the green beans were crisp. Will be back."

  • "I saw this restaraunt on a business lunch and decided to give it a chance. I expected a nice/pricy venue and it is. The bar is on the third floor and had amazing ambiance and service, with unique drink choices and a knowledgable friendly staff. The restaraunt is on the second floor and reminded me of interesting food dishes you would see on chopped or something like that. It is definitely worth a venture out."

  • "The building is an old power building, three stories. The main floor is an indoor rock climbing gym. It's a little odd going to a nice dinner next to people putting on a climbing harness. The top level is Element's lounge. This is a quality bar with very good original drinks and there is a nice rooftop patio. The restaurant is on the floor below. There really isn't a view in the restaurant. The decor is open and modern The wine list had a large variety but seemed a tad small. The food was excellent. It's simply divided in to small plates and large plates. The service was friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "Have friends that suggested we try Element. Building and kitchen area very cool, service outstanding, food choices limited, wine list fair. Modestly underwhelmed. Will try again during warm weather to see what "elements" are on the menu."

  • "Element was a very good restaurant. The ambiance was good. The server seemed to know the menu. The wine was fair and the choices seemed limited. The duck was wonderful. One glitz was that 2 of our meals came at once and one a little later. We were disappointed that they didn't have the desserts that were on the online menu. Overall I thought the food was good and would want to go back especially when the weather is better and sit outside."

  • "Element fits in lots of categories-fabulous food, great service, and terrific ambience. Been back 3 times in 3 weeks to show 3 separate groups of friends. Everyone of them will be going to Element on their own! My new favorite place to go for a terrific experience. It has been years since l have felt so strongly about a dining experience."

  • "The food was excellent. THere was an abbreviated menu for Valentine's day but it was really interesting. I would not have thought of passion fruit mousse and salmon. It was really good. The main course were also excellent-- rabbit for me and scallops for my husband. I would recommend it as inventive and unique."

  • "If you never had the chance to dine at Terrene in the Central West End, it is not too late, sort of. Terrene was one of my wife and my favorite date night places to eat for several years. Now, Executive Chef Brian Hardesty has re-settled in the power plant of the former City Hospital near Lafayette Square. It is a very cool location. And the kitchen is still committed to creating delicious food from ingredients that are found as locally as possible. Upstairs from the dining room is a bar that was comfy and fun and had some easy and enjoyable live music (pianist and vocalist duo)."

  • "You have to go to Element! Wow, what a great new find (including the Lounge on 3rd floor). By far the best tenderloin I've ever had in St. Louis and rivals my best ever. Service was outstanding. Very creative and excellent tasting dishes."

  • "This was our first time dining at Element. I was glad we were seated at a four top next to the kitchen, as the two tops are a little close together, especially for valentines day. Next to the kitchen was a little noisy, but not unbearable. I'll definitely request one of the booths next time. The staff was absolutely fabulous, special thanks to Adam, who took really good care of us."

  • "We went over Valentine's Weekend. The service was great. The special menu for that weekend was excellent. Definitely a foodie choice. We also enjoyed the atmosphere, It did get noisy later in the evening but you could still enjoy conversation."

  • "We love a great meal but don't always understand what the chef is trying to create. Without a doubt this was the most delish meal we have had in over a year in St. Louis. Beet sald, eggs 4 ways, rabbit and sirloin with the beinets for dessert! We don't drink so I can speak to the wine list. The food was not only comprehensive but the flavors were simple and elegant at the same time. So many restaurants overwork the food but Element quality foodie at its best!! The service from front to back and all through our meal was perfectly attentive. We could tell by all members if their staff that making us welcome and comfortable was priority number one!"
