Diner Reviews
  • "I love this restaurant. No matter what day, what hour you walk in, there are always lots of customers! From the margs to the guac to the mahi mahi tacos and more, this restaurant knows exactly what the customer wants. Amazing customer service. The staff who answers the phones are so friendly and sweet. The hostesses are accomodating and perky. The servers and bartenders know the menu inside and out and can keep up with the busy flow they have to attend to all night long. Even down to the bathrooms; they somehow stay clean! This is my favorite restaurant to go to in CC."

  • "I always like going here, great guacamole, margaritas, and this time we tried the guava mojito, which was equally as great. I tried the hibiscus enchilada, wasn't too impressed, but not bad."

  • "Had dinner one night and split the tacos for two. Good sized portion, but they failed to tell us that they add an adobe sauce which in our opinion was super spicy. So much that it killed all flavor. The next night we were walking by after dinner and decided to sit outside for a quick drink and try the nachos. After waiting over 30 minutes, the nachos arrived. The delay was due to a banquet that was going on inside. Would have been nice if our waitress would have told us. Once again, the adobe sauce was added heavily...we couldn't eat the nachos. Shame, it's a nice looking restaurant with outdoor seating and good ambiance. But if you don't have a palate for hot food, save your money and go elsewhere."

  • "Past two times I've been to El Vez the servers were totally charming and sweet! Very helpfull both time-possibly the most redeming quality about El Vez since the food has gone down hill in the past 2 years and the drinks are meh. Still one of my go-to restaurants though ;)"

  • "Had a great meal here the other evening. Cocktails were delicious but the guacamole was amazingly good! I could just eat that for a meal! I had the chicken enchiladas and my husband had the chicken tacos, we were both satisfied and would definitely eat them again. The service was also great. Would definitely go back!"

  • "Met a friend who I hadn't seem for years for lunch at El Vez. Food and service were excellent. It's a little boisterous for lunch, and our table seemed right in the midst of everything so sometimes we had to repeat out selves to be heard. But overall a good experience."

  • "I've dined at El Vez many times when in Philly, and this was one of the best. We tried brunch, and the selection is small but yummy. I had their version of eggs benedict (poached eggs on a chile-corn cake with roasted pork (ham-like) and chipotle hollandaise. It was served with a nice arugla salad with vinaigrette. The bloody mary was perfect. Make reservations on Open Table!"

  • "I dined here with three other friends and it was our first time. Great service, excellent recommendations by our server, and very accommodating with our special requests and questions about the menu! We will certainly be back. We ordered the guac sampler with the De La Hoya and Tito Santana guacs and some salsa. All were delish!!! The chicken tinga tacos were a simple entree but very, very tasty. The blood orange margs were a HUGE hit. Order a pitcher and it can easier be shared by four people and still top off everyone's glass!"

  • "Celebrated my friends 21st birthday at El Vez on a Friday night. Everything was amazing. Our waitress was helpful with making suggesgtions and extremely friendly. We got three different types of tacos: grilled beef, mahi mahi, and shrimp. The food was some of the best Mexican I've ever had. I will definitely be back and soon!"

  • "El Vez never disappoints! Food was as always fantastic and great for sharing with large nacho and guacamole dishes. However they didn't bring our nachos in time so they comped it for us which is a perfect way to show superior customer service! I will definitely go back!"

  • "Another enjoyable lunch at El Vez. Aside from the service being slow, it was a good experience, overall."

  • "One of the best of its kind! The guacamole with goat cheese and pistachios (I forget the name) is outstanding. Tacos never disappoint, especially the sea bass. My only complaint is that you can't hear yourself think on a weekend. The noise level is just crazy. Otherwise, just fabulous."

  • "I usually have dinner at El Vez, but last week , I met a friend for lunch. We sat outside, which was nice since the weather was not too hot. The guacamole was wonderful as always and I tried the mahi mahi tacos ,which were also very good."

  • "The food was very good and the guacamole was the best either of us ever had! The noise level was high and they need some acoustic tiles on the ceiling. Decor nice. We had to wait for a table even though we had reservations but it was only about 15min wait. Yummy Margaritas and some creative options."

  • "Margaritas were yummy. Guac was great. It's worth noting that I was not a fan of the ceviche, and am generally easy to please with ceviche. It was very different than ceviche I have had in the past, and not in a good way in my opinion."

  • "Outstanding guac, creative menu overall. A bit loud, but great energy. Bathroom concept was interesting when it first opened, but now borders on creepy. Needs an update in that department. But food is AMAZING every time so who cares about the bathroom!"

  • "We traveled from Boston with our whole trip centered around going to El Vez for dinner! This is my 3rd time and my husbands first. It is now one of his favorite places!"

  • "Though a bit on the loud side, that's to be expected in a Friday night on a holiday weekend. The food is always great here, the drink selection is awesome, and the service is what you would expect from a Steven Starr establishment."

  • "Went here after the parade downtown and there were plenty of seats. I always get the chopped salad. It's perfect for lunch. You can't skip out on the guacamole either. So a perfect meal to me is a cocktail (i love the guava mojito), guacamole (share with a friend or 2) and the chopped salad. I know it might just seem like a salad but it's one good salad. I wish the chips weren't so fried. There is always too much oil on them. Definitely could be improved."

  • "Loved the energetic vibes...very fun place...but the food did NOT live up to the hype... Everything I had was bland bland bland...guacamole, enchiladas, everything was bland. Even the sangria tasted watery...I'd go again but just for the atmosphere and margaritas, not the food... Also our server seemed very much in a rush...not only in coming(taking our orders) but also in going (rushing off before we could complete our sentence)..."

  • "We ate at El Vez twice during our visit to Philly. I'd recommend reservations, even during the week. Seating at the bar is also alot of fun but it can even be a wait for that, depending on the hour. El Vez is a true experience, and not your average Mexican restaurant at all. The blood orange margaritas and the steak nachos are the best I've ever had. The guacamole is also very good, although it's a little pricey for the amount you get and just a little too creamy. Don't get me wrong, I'd still order it again, it's delicious. The decor is bright and the entire space is really energetic. Love the bicycle over the bar, it's the signature piece. Highly recommend eating at El Vez, for a fun, foody experience."

  • "El Vez is my go-to when I have friends or family visiting from out of town. I know the food will be good and it's a fun atmosphere. I definitely recommend one of their guacamole appetizers, and you won't go wrong with any entree selection."

  • "The food is good but not really traditional Mexican. I would visit again- one day."

  • "My boyfriend and I came with another couple. We've been to El Vez before and enjoyed it- they hadn't been before and loved it. The food was delicious- we always split the Macho Nachos & then each got the Mahi tacos & the blood orange marg. (The Mahi tacos & blood orange marg are my go to). Everything was delicious as always. Our server was fantastic, helpful, animated and made some good recommendations for the couple who hadn't dined there before. The one downside is that it is VERY loud- to the point where you kinda have to yell to be heard- but the food is so good and then atmosphere is great so we always go back!"

  • "This is a fun restaurant. They have the best (blood orange) margaritas and fantastic guacamole. The dinners we ordered were good, but not as outstanding as these other things. Highly recommend!"

  • "The food was invariable. The guava mojitos were so good! The guac with mango has nice and buttery touch with a chunky bite to it. The tacos sampler was good. the sea bass one was delicious because it has this wonderful creaminess from the sweet potatoes puree that perfectly compliments the flakiness of the grill sea bass. The carne asada, chicken and pork did not stand out. We also had the enchiladas, both of us found the enchiladas to be on the saltier side so we just did not touch it after the first bite. My husband was very happy when I told him that I am taking him to El Vez on his birthday. He was disappointed with the enchiladas and the service."

  • "What a terrible experience we had at el Vez! Our reservation was at 830 for a party of 6. We got there and checked in at 7 for a table outside and they said they would let us know as soon as our table was ready. We waited and waited until finally at 9pm they sat the 6 of us at an extremely small table and told us the table next to us was about to leave and when they did would push the 2 tables together to gives us adequate space. Out of space here so I'll continue the review online elsewhere."

  • "Went with a group of five for lunch. We are a group of middle-aged women-not the typical El Vez diners. We ordered the shrimp tacos. It was great that they were served altogether so that it seemed like more. Everything was delicious."

  • "Love that is casual, however you are still out for dinner and it really feels they want you to get out. Hostess walked the table every 2 minutes with no discretion to update all " status" of the tables. Food was good, but deserts were not, do not go for a special occasion I wrote our friends farewell on our notes, told the hostess and still no one even acknowledge it. Great spot for margaritas and casual food to hang out with group of friends, but thats about it"
