  • "Came here for dinner last weekend. Everything on the menu looked amazing, but we ended up going with guacamole to start and the scallops, shrimp, and enchiladas for the mains. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for delicious and interesting Mexican food at a trendy (yet unpretentious) spot! Can't wait to come back and try the brunch as well as the tacos!!"

  • "Our experience started by having to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Our waitress got distracted by other servers dancing around in the bar and never returned after taking our appetizer and drink order. This put us at the mercy of food runners for any service. In the end we had to get up to grab a manager so we could get a check in order to go to another restaurant to complete our meal. The food we did have was fine, but it was the worst service experience I have ever had. I will say that once the manager was informed he was very helpful and nice."

  • "We booked a 5person table at 7pm on a saturday for my dad's 60th birthday. After arriving half an hour early, the hostess worked to seat us immediately (thanks!). We started with the large guacamole, with 3 salsas and bottomless bowls of chips. The open face quesadilla was a hit, served on a pizza tray and balanced by strips of mild chile and creamy cheese. Tacos were small (2 tiny soft corn tortillas) but well constructed, including octopus, stewed chicken and shrimp varieties, and the chicken enchiladas offered a more substantial plate. Drinks were a bit pricey, and the michelada was too smoky, but the wine was reasonable and the overall experience was a delight, including the attentive service."

The atmosphere is great - the lighting, decor, ample room to move around, views of the kitchen, all is ideal. We will definitely return and highly recommend this to anyone out there"

The charred octopus tacos were incredible, as we're the lobster tacos but the sweet and delicious tamales really surprised me, as did the flavorful and yet understated tres leches desert. Delicious! Don't even get me started on what appears to be the largest selection of tequilas - and rare tequilas - in NYC. Well played, sir, well played!"

  • "Found El Toro Blanco on Open Table and it was only a short walk from Hampton Inn SoHo. It's a quaint neighborhood gem. Noise level is a little high - but it makes the place what it is and the atmosphere and ambiance are really nice. The food was wonderful - from lobster ceviche to charged octopus tacos to the chroizo fundido. If you are in SoHo, you should definitely give El Toro Blanco a try for lunch or dinner. Wonderful - and will go back!"

  • "On a cold night this place did very brisk business. The margaritas were exceptional, and while the noise level was very steep, that was due to the busy schedule. The service was great, not overwhelming at all and very attentive to our group. I'd highly recommend it."

  • "Went to El Toro Blanco to take advantage of restaurant week brunch. Arrived about 5 minutes early for the reservation and was asked to sit at the bar while waiting for our table which would be ready "asap". Two drinks and about a half hour later we were seated. Appetizers came relatively promptly but then waited another 20 minutes for the entrees. In total, spent 2 hours and over $150 (including tip) for brunch."

The waiter seemed confused and asked us several times to verify our order. Maybe this was all related to restaurant week so maybe we will try again when it's not restaurant week."

  • "I went with three friends during restaurant week. I had the pan roasted snapper. It was not fresh. I've had snapper at other restaurants and this was the first time that I found the snapper to be horrible. No one at my table raved about their food. Only I was completely disappointed. We all agreed the chocolate cake was on the dry side. The service was great from the time we showed up until our departure. We won't return to this restaurant because there are so many better places. I've never been disappointed at Fonda."

From the moment we stepped in when the maitre'd remembered our names, to the friendly server, knowledgeable barman and excellent food - this one is definitely one of the best finds I've made in years. The buzz was great and the food just terrific - I am a vegan and they catered for me superbly with the most amazing tacos and then a salad to die for whilst my guest couldn't stop talking about the great quality beef he was served. At the end we had a personal thanks from the manager. A winner!"
