Overpriced and the food not great. The old version of El Torito was much better. This "upscale" version is not good.

we didn't have quite a nice dining experience at this restaurant, we were celebrating our rehearsal dinner and expected a nice dinner with the fam, and close friends but unfortunately the service we received there it was not that professional, as the restaurant look like, not organized the food service, waiting staff yelling to find out who order what, not getting refills in our drinks, some drinks and food plates were wrong, but the worst is that we some personnel that were dressing different attire than servers, looking more like supervisors they were serving on top of peoples head from one side of the table to the other, some of the waiting staff didn't look that happy, maybe they had more tables than they could handle

Went on the internet site to see menu and then reserved a table. The happy hour menu looked good so we went. When we got there, we sat at a table but were told the happy hour drinks were only available in the bar. When we were reseated at the bar, we were told the the drinks in the site were not available as happy hour drinks. The menu was different. The spice on my cheese enchiladas was so hot/spicy, my lips burned. The service was not great but OK. I would not go back or recommend.

My husband and I chose this place for our anniversary dinner and were not too excited about it, The service was great and the Drinks were good but the food was disappointing and they sat us at a table where we were practically bumping elbows with other diners. I have been there for brunch in the past and that was great but for a dinner date I don't recommend it.

From a bang-for-your-buck perspective at a full service restaurant, we usually like to hit up El Torito compared to other favorites like Cha Cha's, El Cholo, or Matador Cantina. Unfortunately, we've noticed lately that the drinks are getting watered down and the appetizers are shrinking. For example, the Sangria we had was mostly ice and water... and it wasn't even Happy Hour. The table side Guacamole also appears to be one avocado smaller. Good news is the main courses are still solid and it's still a great place for the family. The hot tortillas served complimentary with your meal are awesome!

All food was lukewarm at best. When I asked to have it sent back soul the did was microwave. By doing that filet and shrimp on the dish was not as good. Very loud and busy so I blame mgmr for now not gettering more servers. Way too loud, too. We've been there before so bragged about it and we took our friends but was very dissapointing. Probably won't go back or recommend for a while .

When I made the reservation online, I requested an outdoor table. I know there is no guarantee, but when we got there, the hostess said the patio was not available because they had a group who had reserved the WHOLE patio. Seems to me they could have told me that in an e-mail when they received the reservation. (I made the reservation the day before, so surely they already had the group reserved.) I specifically chose that restaurant for the view. We had no view at the table where they seated us. When seating is an important issue, I will not depend on Open Table any more for my reservation, unless you can ask the restaurants to please reply to the patron when there is a special request.

A year ago a ten guest dinner here was a disaster because of poor service, kitchen mixups, and no responsiveness from management. I even wrote the parent company who confirmed that I had been there based on the data in their system, then did NOTHING! No offer to come back, incentives, apologies - NOTHING! Last Sunday we returned with 14 guests, specifically because that was the honoree's choice. Pleased to report the one waiter assigned to our table really hustled and did well. Love the fresh tortillas and chips, table side guacamole and all. Feel better about El Torito after this visit. Just be aware this restaurant is all hard surfaces so it is noisy and difficult to talk above the din.

We love going to El Torito Grill in Brea. The location is nice and the food is always great. Also, you can order items that are not on the menu. My kids did not want a full combo, but some of the items on the combo. The waiter was happy to custom build an appropriate combo.

Although the meal was tasty, I was disappointed in the amount of my meal versus the cost. I had the Romaine Chicken Salad with Pepita dressing. I got 4 small strips of chicken with a small amount of lettuce. The waitress never re-filled my drink or brought the extra salsa I asked for. In addition, my waitress forgot to take off my $5 coupon. I didn't realize this until after I paid. It just ended up being a bad experience overall. It's a shame, because I've always loved the grill.

Though its a dressed up version of El Torito, (the atmosphere, seating, etc) and the food is a bit heartier and different in style, the taste is hit or miss. Sauces and meats were lacking in spice for me, though it may be just fine for others. Various shrimp dishes seem to be what comes out best. Waiters and service in general was nice.

Came for Taco Tuesday...enjoyed the warm tortilla with special butter...salsa bar was alright but was almost always empty. Could have been nice to not have to wait for it to be filled especially when it is a Taco Tuesday and everyone is filling their tacos with all the goodies at the bar. Service was alright, felt bad since there seemed to be only one waitress and one manager running the bar area. Took a while to get some things, but I am an understanding person who works in the service industry.

Eaten here before and ordered the same thing because I really liked it the first time - Shrimp Enchilladas. This time the tortillas were not as soft and could have been cooked/warmed-up a little more before making them into the dish. The home made tortillas they serve are great.

Went to El Torito Grill for a small birthday dinner with friends. Food was great. I love that their version of chips and salsa is fresh-made tortillas with honey butter and house made salsa. Yummy! Service was a little less attentive than I would have expected though. Had to wait a bit for drink refills and, after asking for salt, my husband waited about 5 minutes while we watched our server have a conversation with another employee. He finally got up and got it himself from an empty table. Have not had that experience there before so I'm guessing we just had a bad server this time. Restsurant was very accomodating with the surprise cake my friend brought for me. Overall...excellent food and a good time.

    Dined on 7/4/2013
My wife ordered the Carne Asada/Shimp. A soon as it arrived, she noticed it came with the Peruvian beans. She flagged down the busboy and requested black beans instead. The busboy said, "no problem". The waiter appears a few minutes later and ask how things were, we stated, "fine". We assumed the busboy was in the process of bringing the beans. Later the waiter is flagged down and we explain that the bean never made it to the table. Apparently he could not understand why we said everything was fine a few minutes ago. In our mind the bean situation was a done deal. The Manger later came by the table and stated she would adjust the bill, but no such adjustment was made to our bill, but never did. Manger & Staff need retraining.

We had a nice evening at El Torito Grill. Service and atmosphere was very good. Got seated immediately. I had a special mix of everything that was very tasty and the presentation was outstanding. My dinner partner had the fajitas and they were the smallest portion of fajitas that either of us had ever seen at a restaurant. Left us both disappointed and may not return for a while. All in all, everything was fine it was just that one meal that disappointed. We were hoping to see a manager around the restaurant to inform him of our disappointment but we did not see one and decided not to ask but rather post this review.

Service started off great. My son and I sat in the bar and had an appetizer and drink, while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. They were extremely attentive, and the manager was friendly and helpful. Once we got to the table, service really suffered. I had requested chips and salsa, but we never got them. They took about 30mins to take our order, and the food seemed to take a pretty long time to come out. It was difficult to get the waiter's attention. I think that we were there for about 3 hrs. I was so ready to go by the end. The food was good and everybody loved the fresh tortillas. I've been for brunch/lunch in the past and everthing was great. I would definitely go back to the bar again. Those guys were great!

Made a relatively last-minute reservation on Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly on the deck (as requested online). Server brought fresh tortillas and honey butter, as well as chips and two salsas. All were delicious. We ordered the special $50 Valentine's Dinner for Two, with extra-charge margaritas. My wife had fajitas, which were excellent; flavorful and not greasy. I had carne asada, which was also very nice with well thought out sides. We split the churros for dessert. In total, it was a very pleasant evening, aided by the beautiful sunset followed by the spectacular view of the city lights.
