The first bite made me feel like I was floating in heaven. Food was absolutely incredible! Our server seemed a bit slow on the uptake and didn't seem to be able to hear anything we said the first time (even though it wasn't noisy). Other than her, everything else about El Sol was incredible! It would be great for date night or just a night out with the gang.

You wouldn't think that Harrisburg would be a place for good MExican food. Well El Sol was good. It isn't your burritto chimichunga restaurant - it is the real deal. Great homemade hot sauces (no Tabasco or Choula) ... but down home good food. Would recommend.

We eat at the El Sol regularly and look forward to dining there again as we exit from our last meal. The homemade sauces and salsas are so good; the grilled jalopenas are exceptional (hot); good variety of menu options. This is not your typical Tex/Mex restaurant. Exceptional food, service and drink. PERIOD!!

Excellent family-owned place clearly created as a labor of love with fresh and largely locally-sourced ingredients where possible . . . Manager, Jason, could not be more friendly or accommodating. In short, high quality fine authentic Mexican with a tremendous tequila selection as a bonus! Becoming a regular place for us, two foodies in our fifties.

Restaurant was nicely decorated and atmosphere was appealing. Service was very good, drinks were also good and the chips and salsa (for which they charge extra) were excellent. The entrees were not to our liking. My chicken with a mole sauce was too intense to the point of being bitter. My wife's enchiladas were not moist and needed more sauce. My son's steak fajitas were not very tasty and they charged $2.30 extra for cheese, which is usually included with that meal. We will not be back.

Our party of 4 enjoyed the ambiance and energetic atmosphere of El Sol. The menu was large and very imaginative. The food was hot and very good. Too bad the restaurant is in downtown Harrisburg. As usual one of our party got hit with a parking violation. He accidentally parked in a bus zone.

Our friends, Mike and Stephanie joined us for dinner at El Sol. When we arrived for our 5:30 reservation on Monday evening, the place was a little quiet, but soon was filled and quite lively. We started by sharing chips with a goat cheese quac. I like that the chips are heated and the quac had added flavor with the cheese. The freshly made salsa was great, too with just a bit of heat. For dinner we had crab enchiladas, chicken tacos and carnitas, a pork dish cooked in a sauce of spices and served with flour tortillas. Sides included refreid beans and a flavored rice with peas. Everything was great but the rice which seemed a bit bland. For desert, we split the tres leches cake and flan, both were very good.

Went for Anniversary dinner. We felt service was very good and responsive but food quality has deteriorated since our last visit. We used to think el sol compared favorably with similarly up-scale Mexican restaurants in NYCity. Not any more. Prices are now virtually the same as in NYC and the food isn't comparable. Also, drink prices were as high in expensive rental Nycity locations, which is just absurd in low price harrisburg. Would try again to give them another chance, but can't recommend to friends at this time. One of our 4 orderes was wrong and had to be returned to the kitchen

Mid afternoon revealed a restaurant almost devoid of customers. Our food, as expected, came out quickly. The guac was seasoned very mildly, overall, very good. I like the fact that you can mix and match tacos. Our friend selected the fish and chicken tacos. My spouse had the chicken fajitas. I had the carne asada taco plate which came with re fried bean (a bit salty, for my taste) and rice. The three of us split the tres leche cake, which was excellent. A great way to end a very nice mid afternoon lunch.

We visited this resturaunt this past weekend as a birthday present for my 15 yr old daughter. When we walked in we were quickly greeted and the hostess accomendated us very nicely. We were orginally seated at a high-top table and my mother was unable to sit there so they moved us quickly to a normal 4-top. Our waiter was very friendly and on the ball. we ordered a variety of items and we very pleased with the quality of food. This is a authentic mexican resturuant and we enjoyed ourselves very much. My wife had a Fresca Margarita and said it was delicious and strong. The prices of their meals was what we expected and ranged from $12-25. The amount of food was genorous for the price. You won't leave hungry that is for sure.

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants but things have gone downhill. The food - which we used to think was authentically Mexican -tasted bland. The main flavor was salt and the chicken was underdone. The music was too loud and the speaker need to be replaced. The front door was broken and repaid with duck tape. We won't be going back which is too bad because we need good restaurants in Harrisburg.

Excellent experience overall. We were greeted and seated in short order and served by the maître d', who seemed to be a jack of all trades, even mixing up margaritas when the need arose. I had the "gourmet" margarita which was less sweet than their standard, and was quite good. We also ordered some chips, freshly made salsa, the ceviche (with scallops) and chicken enchiladas. All done and served quite well. We're planning to return with friends to celebrate an upcoming birthday.

I love the flavors and texture roasted corn adds to the sauce. Al Diablo is a good description for the chicken dish I had. My wife had the Molcejete Mixto (her favorite). The restaurant is decorated with the colors and art you would expect to find in central Mexico. This is a great place to take guests and business associates when looking for great food in a different setting. I will be back!

El Sol is a Harrisburg gem, with the best gourmet Mexican food that can rival any urban scene, and even better, the drinks are utterly amazing. Artisan tequilas and fresh ingredients in both classic and unique combos. The jalapeno margarita is the best I've ever had, and the (unfortunately seasonal only) cherry mojito makes me cry it's so damn delicious. I'm vegan, and I'm never forced to settle for some half-assed option because they do wonderful things with grilled vegetables. My dining partners were not vegan and raved about the fish tacos, ceviche combo, and chile relleno the size of a small head. Seriously, El Sol is the best restaurant in the mid-state area, and definitely my go-to option for impressing out-of-town guests. Superb!
