When one drives east of Indy on Washington Street, you see a part of the city that is no longer the center of economic growth. The exterior of El Sol does not give this place away, so you need to go inside. The interior is very nice, with a large fountain in the middle. The service and the food are outstanding, true authentic Mexican cuiusine. I have been there three times and I will go back again.

Service was terrible! Server took our drink order and brought them out quickly. He then disappeared for nearly an hour before getting our dinner order! I had to go to thekitchen myself more than our server did! The manager came by...after we asked for him several times! He said it was very busy but we could tell it was our server. A friend was also eating in another section and said they were just fine. SO! Disappointing !

My friends and I made reservations for Cinco de Mayo. We were seated exactly one hour after the time our reservation was supposed to be for. Not a dealbreaker (I'll get to that part soon). There were people waiting in the lobby, yet there were at least a dozen empty tables. The hostess was WAY too friendly and acted completely unprofessional including her appearance. We weren't going to the club, we were going to dinner. Food was okay, wait staff was okay, duration of time from when our reservation started to when we received our bill was three hours in which should have taken only one. We asked to see the manager. The manager was too afraid to come talk to us. Are you kidding!? On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a -40.

Everything started out great, very friendly. Due to language barrier, got the wrong meal. Explained to waitress and got a smile. Explained to hostess / manager and was told she would make our dessert, which we wanted to order. No one ever came back to the table to take our dessert order or apologize. They were not busy at all, maybe 4-5 other tables seated at the time but our waitress was seen by us maybe twice. Disappointing because the food we got was good but lack of service may keep us from coming back. We would recommend to friends based on the food but with the warning about service.

Found this gem using Google maps while visiting Indy. Ratings were good so we decided to take a chance. Exterior will make you think twice about stopping but don't worry. Interior is amazing. Service is superb from the moment you walk in the door. We had a party of 6 and were seated promptly. Each one of us had a different entree and all were excellent. This is upscale Mexican cuisine, not your standard combination platter, they were more than willing to customize entree for one of our party. Salsas, guacamole, and, chips were fresh; salad was fresh baby greens and not bagged iceberg. Prices were very reasonable, with drinks most of us were under $25 per person. We will put this on our list for the next time we are in Indy.

I made a reservation here for 14 people with only 30 minutes notice! The hostess was very gracious and accomodate our group. The food was delicious, great guacamole. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I appreciate that the servings were ample, but not the too common pile of beans and rice. The meat portion of the plate was delicious with good spicing, very flavorful.

Always enjoy the food at El Sol! Friendly staff, and super accommodating even for larger groups. We had a reservation for 8 at 6:30 on Friday evening. Ordered fairly quickly as we did see the restaurant was beginning to get pretty busy, but still waited quite a while for some of us to even get our cocktails. Part of the table received their entrees, while three of us at the other end waited patiently for ours to arrive...only to find that 'mine' was incorrect (this after close to 10 minutes later). Quickly fixed the problem but wasn't a visit from management to apologize nor did server seem to take it as issue, in my observation. Be prepared to wait when going and enjoy lots of their delicious guacamole! Then ask for to-go box....

This restaurant is awful, bad location, bad food and poor service. Half of it is taped off with black plastic, not sure if they're trying to save money on heating of if they have a grow room up there, but either way I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We've been to El Sol a number of times - for both lunch and dinner - and every time we go we absolutely love this place. On Saturday evening we celebrated our granddaughter's 21st birthday at El Sol with friends and family members - there were 13 of us and the staff was totally accommodating and the service was really good. The food at El Sol is absolutely delicious, with a very attractive presentation. Those in our party who hadn't eaten there before were delighted with the food and the atmosphere . El Sol is the perfect place for delicious, authentic Mexican food, whether you are dining with a date for dinner, a co-worker for lunch,or a big lively party. Good beer selection, beautiful tropical drinks, fun atmosphere.

This was our first visit. The food was excellent. We understood there was outdoor dining and was disappointed. We had a table of six and sat under fans that certainly rushed our meal due to the cold. It was a cool evening outside and seemed fans were not necessary. We asked the waitress to turn off our fans and was told they would all have to be turned off. There was a small crowd in the restaurant that evening and seems as if the fans could have been turned off. We rushed through our meal with no dessert or coffee do to being cold...

I have a monthly dinner group and we picked this place because we were told it was beautiful and the food was great. All of that is true, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the food was fantastic...there was not a single thing anyone in my group ate or drank that they did not like. However, the heat inside the building ruined the whole dinner. It was so hot in the building that when we left it was in the mid-90's outside and we felt better outside than inside. When we asked the server about the air conditioning she said that she thought the air conditioner was too small for the building? At the end of the day, the food was awesome so go there if you like sweating the entire time you eat...or wait until winter time maybe.

Entering the resturant, one may be taken back by its outside appearance, however as soon as you walk through the doors you know you've found a neighborhood gem. The service was choppy. We had a large group and this overwhelmed the wait staff, the lack of communication between the assigned servers was apparent. Once our food finally came to the table it was delicious! I reccomend the fajitas, the quacamole, the queso dip, chicken mole and margarita cake. I don't reccomend taking a large group,we had 13 and the staff couldn't keep up. We waited nearly an hour until our food arrived. Our drinks weren't filled and two people had to wait an extra 15 minutes for thier food. We had to remind servers of tortillas, drink refills and silverware.

First off, my party was 13 people on Mothers Day. I had reserved the table for 15 two days prior, giving them ample time to prepare. Not only this, but it was also Mothers Day and they should be prepared for crowds anyway. Long story short, our poor server did everything he could to serve us well, but the experience was awful. From food order to receiving our VERY cold fajitas, about an hour and a half, + an hour of them scrambling to find ways to reheat food, 1 refill entire time, no salsa refills. Food was, honestly, pretty gross. Most did not/could not finish. This experience lasted ~4 hours! The manager on duty was the most apathetic manager I've ever dealt with. I picked the place, and I was ashamed my family had to sit through it.

The party of 4 arrived and there were maybe 3 other tables filled with customers. The host asked us "did we have reservations" as though there wasn't a table available. I almost wanted to answer that we did not just to see what he would have done. The food was very good although there wasn't an ala carte option for those of us who are trying hard to watch our portion sizes (or on a budget). My only real complaint is that our waitress disappeared after our food was served. I had to ask the bus boy for a refill of water. Overall- love the ambiance of the place, but not sure I'll go out of my way to go back if I am in the downtown area.

Waited 5-10 minutes at hostess stand to be acknowledged that I was even there. Was finally seated with no menus or silverware, waited over 5 minutes to be acknowledged that we were seated. Waitress asked for our drink order and asked if we were ready to order, but no menus, she finally returned 5-10 minutes later with our drinks. Another 5 minutes later and we finally got some chips and salsa. Food was not that good, had to ask for silverware again. To sum everything up, service was horrible, food was average, I won't be back.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

One of the worst experiences I've encountered at a restaurant -- and I'm a traveling business person. The wait staff was completely clueless. We had a reservation for 8:15 and were sat at 9:00 -- didn't get our food delivered until 10:30. Had to ask for silverware about 5 times over an hour and a half and they finally delivered about 10 minutes after the served our entres. They served our chips with no salsa after a 20-30 minute wait (no drinks to wash down the dry chips). Drinks finally arrived after our chips were gone, then they brought salsa and bean dip to go with our now finished chips. This type of nonsense went on for the entire dinner.

The food was excellent but there were not enough servers so it took 45 minutes for us to get the appetizers and then they had no chips with them.. took another 15 minutes to flag someone down to get chips! Entrees did not arrive for another 30 minutes and we only had one water refill the entire time. Would have ordered drinks but was afraid we would not get them before we had to leave! Felt bad for the servers because so many people were angry but they need to have more people working on a saturday evening! especially one after valentines day... will make sure to warn people about the service!

El Sol was a pretty cool find. First time being there and it was for a 2nd Valentine's dinner with my fiance. The ambiance was sweet; a cool mix of traditional Mexican without over-doing it. The chips and salsa were great and the food was very good too (I got the pollo mole). The server we had was nice but....was very slow. Once we got our food he didn't check back in until we were already done and trying to head out, and then after trying to use a 10% discount from Yelp (probably my bad on that one) it was another 10-15 minutes before we actually got the check all sorted out. Overall a pretty good experience though.

This is one of the best mexican places I have found in Indianapolis. I love the ambiance of the restaurant, and I think the neighborhood that it is in adds a lot of character. Their guacamole was out of this world! The food is delicious and not over priced. There was live music but it was not overpowering and I could still have a conversation with my table. The mixiote was cooked perfectly! The service was also really good. I highly recommend this place. I will be returning.
