I'm a Texas transplant and
absolutely love food -- so I would definitely recommend this place as a NY tex-mex option. The salsa was real salsa and not just pico. We ordered the jalapenos stuffed with shrimp and it was delicious. Also, the enchiladas had fajita meat inside; rather than shredded meat -- all great! The margaritas were tasty too. Blood orange was my favorite."

It's hard to find a place that
really knows how to make a great margarita. The jalapeno one was amazing! Food was great, service was excellent."

We have been coming to Rio Grande
consistently since moving to the City. Our most recent dinner experience was on New Years Eve 2013 (which was a fabulous meal and great way to end the year!!). The margaritas are so fun and the food is exceptional mexican fare!"

When we arrived we were given a
bowl of nachos with a selection of salsas,.When we were finished we were given a refill, thank god we didn't order starters,we would never have been able for dinner! The group at the table next to us ordered guacamole which the server made at their table, it looked so delicious I wished I had ordered it! We all (party of 4) ordered beef dishes: enchilada, burrito, skirt steak, tacos, and the beef literally melted in our mouths! It was so good! I had such an enjoyable meal I would highly recommend this restaurant, and the next time I am in Manhattan I will definitely be stopping by for some guacamole! Ps: when we got the bill there was no charge for the nachos and dips!"

An excellent margarita and 4-5
star Mexican food. Service was excellent and very friendly. A great spot for any occasion. Very family friendly as well."
Dined on 12/13/2013
Excellent reasonably priced
Mexican food. The guacamole is a must, it's a tad expensive but you get a large portion and it's outstanding. Frozen margaritas also very good with many choices of flavors. My date and I both had enchiladas which were very good (she had seafood, I had steak)."

Great Mexican spot located near
grand central. One Margarita is enough! They could work on the decor a bit more."

flavored margaritas and delicious fresh-made guacamole. Service was fast and courteous, food was excellent."

the food is slightly above average
but the drinks are great. however, recently someone told me that the margs used to be $5 and now the price has doubled. they're still worth it, in my opinion. fun spot."

Had an excellent fresh fish lunch
special. Very good value. Attentive staff. Good light and decor. Half empty for a mid-week lunch, which somehow made it less fun"

i know this place has been around
for a long time but i can't imagine how. In addition to the food and rinks being barely edible/drinkable (literally, we barely ate our guacamole, chicken mole, shrimp fajita or drank our cadillac margarita or cabarnet - and we're not that fussy!), the ambiance was horrible. It seemed as if they had shoved in 1/3 more tables than the space was meant to handle to the point that wait staff and other patrons were constantly bumping into our chairs and everyone had difficulty making their way through the room. One of the worst dining experiences we've ever head in NYC - and we're natives!"

As always, food was fabulous and
the margaritas are the best in the city !! Ole!!"

It's been 25 years since my wife
and I lived in Manhattan. We enjoyed El Rio Grande at least twice monthly when we did. They food was always very good, they had traditional and innovative menu choices, and offered a superb list of various fresh margaritas. Guess what- nothing has changed! My wife and I booked an reservation there while in Manhattan for a few days and had a terrific dinner. And the guacamole was the best we have had in a long, long time. Must Have: the shrimp stuffed jalapenos are outstanding, and the tableside prepared guacamole is made how you like it. In a city with an every changing restaurant it's great to see the quality and execution of El Rio grande hasn't been diminished."

The food was decent. We had a nice
lunch. We were not wow-ed by anything."
Dined on 7/26/2013
Famous for their margaritas and
its no surprise why. With a bunch of different flavors to choose from even if you're not much of a margarita fan you'll fall in love with it here. Outdoor seating allows for both a happy hour loud feel as well as a more quieter appeal on the other side of the restaurant (although you do have to walk through the kitchen to get there but hey! At least you knew it was clean) We just got an appetizer but it came out fast and was delicious. If you go though you must get one of their premium margaritas, but make sure you keep it to two or under because they are wonderfully strong."
Dined on 7/27/2013
Half of the time we go there, they
do not matk off our reservation, even after reminding them that they have to show it as honored"

On a Friday at 9:30 pm the
restaurants on my" to-try" list were booked. El Rio Grande, recommended by an acquaintance several years ago, had space and was within walking distance of our hotel. I'm so sorry I waited 4 years to try it. Margaritas were strong, delicious and reasonably priced. The sampler plate had enchiladas with mole and tomatillo sauce, both well-prepared. The hostess greeted me by name when we entered. We loved the vibe; it reminded us of the one at our favorite now closed Zarela. Waiters were attentive. Diners, all younger than we, lingered in the festive atmosphere. We were thrilled to find this restaurant and will certainly be back. A find!"

other wise loved it."

This restaurant has had its ups
and downs through the years, but is still great and worth the revisit. Service is a little spotty, as it's always busy, but the staff are pleasant."
Dined on 6/18/2013
It was my first time at this
restaurant with a couple of my girlfriends and it was not a very good experience. We were in time for our reservation and we were seated at an extremely tight space. We decided to wait for another table to open up as the original table offered to us was just unacceptable. I understand that the restaurant/ bar is a hit for after work drinks and dinner but the management is forcing to accommodate all their customers by putting tables extremely close to each other. It was not comfortable to walk in and out of, and eating was very uncomfortable as well because you will literally hit the other diners from the next table with your elbows. I don't think I will return."

Met a couple of friends for late
lunch so it wasn't too crowded (Mexico side), had super meals, empamnadas & enchildas (very reasonably priced) and had wonderful service! I used to be a regular back in the late 80's so was happy to know it was still operating. The mistake I made was not asking the price for a Skinny Margarita.....$15!!!! and I had TWO!!!! OMG Need I say more? LOL Can't imagine that you would be disappointed!"

El Rio Grande has been my
neighborhood fave for years. Great staff, food and service. Have had several larger functions here and management was tops at putting it all together. You don't find great places like this too often. These guys always make it happen just right."
Dined on 4/26/2013
Have been eating here for 15
years! Food is great! They used to serve an amazing avocado dip with the salsa and chips, that they no longer have. I was told too expensive to serve free...also, tables are jammed in very tight-too tight for my liking."
Dined on 4/11/2013
My girlfriends and i had a great
experience at Rio! The good was delicious, the margaritas were strong and the service was nice. The tables were on top of each other, but this place gets packed. Overall great experience!"
Dined on 4/2/2013
Horrible service. Our waiter was
beyond rude. He didn't bring out our orders correctly and then wanted to charge us $4 for a side of sour cream that should have been part of my fajita anyways. I'll never go back again."
