A word from El Paseo
El Paseo is a local Chophouse. We are open daily from 5pm - 10pm.

In 2009 local Mill Valley residents Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar partnered to take over the restaurant. Seeking to maintain the historic charm and integrity of the building and gardens, they planned and designed a complete restoration of the storied interior and exterior spaces. They are very excited to bring a local institution back to its former glory.Continued

  • "My husband and i have eaten here a few times with mixed results on the service. The food is always great. Last week we took our two grand kids who were on Spring Break and visiting from South Carolina ( they are six and seven years old). I was disappointed in kid-friendly choices. When I asked the waitress if there was a children's menu, I was told " they order whatever is on the menu". I've never known any six or seven year old kid who would enjoy American Red Snapper, or how about Pan Roasted Breast of Duck? The closest thing to being kid-friendly is the Mac-n-cheese but even that was made for grown-ups. I'm fine with sharing my food with kids, but there wasn't anything they would eat! Anyway, still love the restaurant AND Tyler :)"

Though a large party surprised the restaurant nearby, we were separated by glass walls in the small bar area where it was busy, but not uncomfortable. The food and wine were excellent and the service was acceptable. Like many fine dining establishments, there are a multitude of people who bring you different elements of the meal, bread, wine, appetizers, and main course, not necessarily in that order. Overall the experience was good. The prices were as expected for a high end restaurant, especially with two famous named owners, but not outrageous. We would return for another visit."

  • "We went out with our family to El Paseo Restaurant on Friday night March 14, 2014 at 7:30 pm to celebrate my daughters acceptance into 2 very prestigious schools. What should have been a lovely evening to celebrate a special event was ruined by poor service and a very long wait for our waiter to show up, and an even longer wait, for our food to show up. Nothing ruins a good meal like poor service. The food was delicious, but having to wait an hour or longer for your meal to be served, after you have been seated, is unacceptable at a restaurant of this caliber...or any restaurant for that matter. I normally would have walked out, but I stayed and waited, and waited and waited. Finally I left Very Unhappy!!"

  • "I took my fiancé to this restaurant for his birthday as a recommendation from my parents who come to this restaurant frequently. We fell in love with the decor and ambiance- romantic rustic European vibe. I had requested a quiet table for us and they gave us a corner booth, which was perfect. I liked that you see the whole kitchen staff right as you walk in. We had a chance to speak with the chef which was an usual and nice experience. The food was absolutely phenomenal- the filet mignon was cooked to perfection as was the braised ribs! Fantastic and highly recommended for a romantic evening with delicious food and great service."

  • "The menu offered limited choices and we had trouble finding dishes that sounded appealing. I had the "shrimp Louis" salad which had only a few bites of lettuce and was made with tempura shrimp with some hidden red sauce under the shrimp that reminded me of blood, not good in any way. Too salty. I had expected lettuce. We had a side of Brussels sprouts which were so salty we only ate a portion of the dish. I was very disappointed in the food and to top it off our waitress was curt and borderline unpleasant. We were overcharged and she had to re- run our card - so of course we were charged twice. Now I have to resolve that issue. I Needless to say I won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "Ordered the Cowboy steak. Big enough to feed four people. My husband and I agree that it was the best steak we have ever eaten. Salad with green goddess dressing was so salty I could not eat it. Deviled eggs were very good. Loved the popovers. Desserts at $10.00 are super tiny. A sliver of brownie with a spoonful of ice cream? REALLY! Not big enough to share that's for sure. We were here for a special occasion and would return again."

My cousin and I ordered the beet salad, filet mignon, a side of roasted wild mushrooms and apple tart to share. It was such a delicious and scrumptious meal. The beet salad was well balanced. The bacon wrapped filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The side of roasted wild mushrooms was to-die-for. The apple tart was heavenly."

  • "We started with the deviled eggs and it was a very grown-up take on an old standard. It was topped with some interesting textures and the yolks were so creamy. This is not your mother's deviled eggs! I had the filet mignon and it was covered with bacon and butter. How can anything like that be bad? The meat was so tender and so flavorful. It did come with 2 cooked onions which I didn't care for. My husband got the pork chop and it was also very tender and flavorful. We also ordered the orange panna cotta which was very good but it had a little hard film on top which spoiled it a little. The service from the wait staff were excellent and the front desk was also very friendly. The atmosphere is very cozy. I would definitely go back."

  • "A group of us just dined at El Paseo on Saturday Jan 25th. We've dined here many times and always bring our friends or family when they want the best restaurant that Mill Valley has to offer. Even our city friends are always impressed. The fish I had on Saturday was the best preparation I've ever had. The menu changes frequently and this was new to me. The fish was snapper and I wouldn't usually pick out snapper but decided to give it a try. I was really glad I did. It almost resembled a paiea. The fish was cooked perfectly and included mussels and I believe quinoa with the best kick of spice. Everyone at the table loved it and I've been thinking about it ever since and will definitely be back for more!"

The environment at El Paseo has always been great - very romantic and quiet, but the new owners have brought great consistent service and a much less fussy menu back. I have eaten there four or five times in the last few months and the food has always been right on. Everything is fresh and delicious. It can feel a little on the pricey side, but portions are large and food is delicious."

  • "My husband and I have been going to El Paseo since it reopened a few years back When it first opened, the food was tremendous, but I have to say that on the last three visits, the quality and presentation of our meals just hasn't been nearly as good. The Bernaise burger has always been a good fall back, but the other night it came with a small smattering of fries that seemed left over from someone else's plate instead of intended for my own. It also took an amazingly long time for our very simple food to come out of the kitchen. Given there were a number of tables that remained empty on a Friday night! El Paseo, please read this review and set things back on track - we want you to stay open and be delicious again!"

My fiance and I sat outside at the table under the alcove and the beer garden lights, couples walking by saying "well isn't this just the perfect spot for a date", and the ambiance of the restaurant was spectacular.   • "El Paseo is an enjoyable dining experience, especially if you enjoy a great rib eye. The wine list had wines at different price levels and excellent selections. We sat in the room near the bar, looking out onto the courtyard. The table was perfect for a romantic night and even though the waiter's water station was near they were very aware of the diners' comfort. I loved the side dishes with the rib eye: wonderful well grilled brussel sprouts and wonderful mushrooms. One of the best parts of the service was the way our waiter knew exactly when and how to pour our wine. He gave a modest pour that allowed you to enjoy the bouquet and when your pour was a bit low he was their to bring it back up to a modest but pleasing level."

Bread served before the meal was fresh from the oven. My wife described her red snapper as "fantastic". My wedge was a unique blend of the freshest tender ice berg lettuce leaves with just a bit of smoked pork in a rich creamy cheese dressing - one of the best wedges I've ever eaten. My smoked pork chop was very smoky, perfectly cooked and quite large. We literally had no room for desert."

  • "Dinner for two to celebrate a birthday. Everthing about my meal was perfect. Both of us really enjoyed our first two courses. As for the main course, my Shrimp Louie was beautiful and tasted as fantastic as it looked. . .but my wife ordered the fillet and it was overcooked. I'd seen a review about this place that said that they had a tendency to do that but I ignored it. The sides were very tasty . . . and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Really bummed they couldn't get my wife's steak cooked properly."

  • "Excellent service. We all enjoyed our food with the exception of my husband who had ordered the filet. It was not "medium rare" but more medium and we would expect a melt in your mouth cut of meet which this was not. No soft buttery texture but a little tough. I had 3 appetizers which were all good. Our friends loved their meal. The wine was not good and was recommended by the food server. It was only a $65 bottle so maybe that was the problem. We should have brought our own and paid the corkage."

  • "I would like to start by saying this is an excellent restaurant with about the best service you will find. But for those of us who take our chop houses seriously and like a scotch or bourbon before the meal be aware there is no full bar here, just beer and wine. That said this is a great chop house though it is a "more modern less traditional chop house", meaning frequent menu changes and few steaks to choose from. That said some menu changes are good, some not so good. All in all a great chop house with a great atmosphere."

  • ".sad to say this wonderful romantic location is beautiful but not a good restaurant.. and NOT a steakhouse .... the food is mediocre and no care or pride is taken .. .. The Florenican empire is spread too thin ,,if only a new owner would give this beautiful location the attention and craft deserved....... A romantic bar but no cocktails , IF one orders a bottle of wine and only the great warm biscuits ,, ,,,then this is a lovely experience,, ,"
