El PaseoMmmm GoodI have heard so many great things about Tyler Florence and tried several of his recipes, a few of which are now household favorites. I wanted to try eating at one of his restaurants and this being mine and my oldest daughters birthdays it was the perfect excuse to go. We were very pleased with everything. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender and oh, so tasty. Can't wait to go again.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPlus and minusThe food was great. Service was friendly and fun but it took to long for food to arrive and bus folks were to eager to clear tables. I miss the rolls that were served in the past. These little things won't stop me from returning. I have been going there since it first opened in 19496/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversaryI would highly recommend El Paseo. We recently celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary their and had a fantastic time. The ambiance and setting can't be found in too many restaurants. All the food we ordered was outstanding and Sam, our waitress, was fantastic. Sam recommend a fantastic wine which went well with everything we ordered. Great place!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEl Paseo is FantasticThis restaurant is what you would expect from a venture associated with Tyler Florence. They has resurrected a classic Mill Valley venue and taken the bar and our door dining areas to a new height. The ONLY thing I would change is to ask them to offer is grass-fed and grass finished beef as opposed to grain finished beef.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner, great ambience!!Great place for a special occasion, awesome steaks and wonderful customer service. I loved my experience at EL Paseo!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRomanceWe went for our Anniversary and it was so romantic! We ate dinner inside in a cozy booth sitting next to each other, and then moved outside by the firepit under the stars for dessert:)6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Outstanding on all fronts. Truly one of the most gorgeous, romantic restaurants I have ever experienced.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphereI loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and how it was set up in sections. Would have loved to sit outside but inside was just as nice. The food was great.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Amazing ExperienceI treated my brother to dinner for his birthday and it was just perfect. We will definitely be back!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingI took my boyfriend here for his birthday. He said it was the best meal he's had in a long time. The atmosphere was relaxing, it felt as though we were in someone's home, enjoying a home cooked dinner. The wine was delicious, we had the waiter pick a bottle out for us. Great knowledge! I can't wait to bring my friends and family back, and maybe snag the outdoor table in the front ;)5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was the Best!We had a delightful evening. Of course we had good friends with us, and we all enjoyed our meals. The butter lettuce salad was much tastier than we would have expected. Our friend had the bone marrow appetizer and we all tasted it - yummy!! We had the filet mignon (delicious), ahi tuna entree (delicious), chicken (delicious, and fun with the bubbles on top!), and the burger (delicious and yummy bernaise!) The pecan and ice cream dessert and the caramel dessert were also hits. Our waitress was there at all the right times and non intrusive...
Can't wait to go back!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary Dinner at El PaseoWe sat outside on the patio for a 7pm dinner. We took our own bottle of wine and had a beer and glass of wine before dinner. The weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded when we got there. We got the tuna tartare for an appetizer, and it was great. Then we had the bacon wrappen filet and veal for main courses, with potatoes and green beans on the side. Everything was perfect. The food was so good, came out at perfect intervals, wasn't too loud, service was great. Then we had a butterscotch dessert which was also great. It was the perfect anniversary dinner. When it got dark there were lights draped across the top from the roof and was very romantic. Everything was great and I highly recommend El Paseo to anyone who would ask!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMStaff needs a refresher on service!I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, the service was botched at every step of the way.
- Upon arriving, the hostess took us to a table set up for 4 when we were a party of 6. She asked us to wait outside for a moment while they reset the table. 10 minutes later we were still waiting
- We waited another 10-15 min. before our server ever came, another 15 minutes before the waitress told us the champagne was still chilling. We said we wanted to order wine for our main course. She never came back to get our order until we were half done w/ our meal. Wine arrived while I was on my last bite.
- Each course the servers had no idea who ordered what.
Loved the food, but the service needs major correcting!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEl Paseo never ceases to amazeEl Paseo never ceases to amaze us! Outstanding service and excellent food and drink is what keeps us coming back. Steve at the bar was his usual and friendly self. He asked if we were having dinner and checked us in with the host. We ha asked for a particular table when we made our reservations and we seated at that table. JoJo our wait staff person was great and David came several times to talk to us inquiring how we were doing. Everyone at the restaurant makes you feel very special and cared for. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal - deviled eggs, devils on horseback. sweet onion soup, crispy duck wings and bacon wrapped filet mignon. We were too full to have any dessert! We most definitely recommend El Paseo!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentFood was excellent -- filet mignon, grilled asparagus, roasted potatoes, butter leaf salad. Strange to have baked (?) egg on side of Caesar salad (would not order that again). Wines by the glass, limited selection, especially champagnes by the glass.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming Mill Valley settingCharming Mill Valley setting with good food, professional service, great wine list. Sometimes it can get very noisy but this last visit we sat in the front room which was fairly quiet and six of us could speak to each other easily. Food was presented beautifully. The Shrimp Louie was actually the most creative thing we had - looked pretty and was excellent. The kitchen split the share plates before they served them, which is always a sign of a well run kitchen and was certainly appreciated.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLove that they haven't changedLove that they haven't changed much of the ambience. A wonderfully winning venue. It was our anniversary and they couldn't have made us feel more welcome.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMthe bestone of the best meals of my life. i took my mom for mother's day and everything was PERFECT. incredible flavor combinations, the highest quality fresh locally-sourced ingredients, stupendous service, spectacular plating. bravo, tyler and team!!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayHad a great experience here with Fiance and Mom for Mother's Day. Just the three of us, we all loved our dinners - I had the Veal Chop, Highly Reccommend with the exotic mushroom medley which was also great. I selected the Knez Anderson Valley Pinot 2010 which was outstanding as usual. Service was well timed and attenteive with a little bit of old school charm. I've heard mixed reviews from friends so my expectations were low but we had a great meal, the ambiance is exactly what one hopes for in an old school but chic steak house and although pricey, it was a beautiful evening and we'll definitely go back. For Marin, this has been one of the best dining experiences I've had
Highly Recommend5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWay to go TylerI booked a table for four on a Saturday night to celebrate my wife's birthday and the staff at El Paseo helped to make it a special night.
The overall service and food were very good and if not for a spilled of glass of wine in my lap when they cleared the table, it would have been excellent!
It is a CHOP house so go with your MEAT mood intact. They do offer some fun other items, but it is all about the fruits of the cow. We had several items including the filet mignon and the Cowboy ribeye - the Ribeye was the star and the al-a-carte sides were the perfect compliment to the meal.
The menu is a joy to read - everything from an extensive and adventurous wine list to unique and tasty appetizers.
I am sure we will go back again soon!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEl Paseo - special eveningOut of town guests gave us the excuse; had a fabulous evening. It can be difficult to get a weekend reservation, but our group increasing from 5 to 7 was accomodated & we had lovely wine cellar room. Service:polished and friendly, really made the evening. Started w/scrumptious deviled eggs, then bar steak with frites, filet mignon (roasted shallots), english veal chop - done perfectly and well seasoned. Pea risotto was excellent. We also shared the smashed potatoes, mac and cheese and roasted asparagus - again all well executed, and had a delicious Cote du Rhone. Shared desserts - and interesting flavor combos. Servings not large & prices high, so just be prepared. Overall, straightforward food, nicely prepared & served, in lovely setting.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEl Paseo - May 2013The food and service was good, lighting was a little dark. We all had steak which I understand has to rest after cooking but it was delivered to the table with a seasoned butter that would not melt, meat was lukewarm bordering on cool. Whipped potatoes and spinach were very good. Major fail in not accepting our American Express gift card although the restaurant does accept American Express credit cards. The manager that evening demonstrated little interest in finding a solution for us to be able to use our gift card as payment.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGrea way to revisit child hood homeCame down from sonoma county looking for something differernt and wad not disapointed. Great everthing from salad to desert. I liked the old school veteren service. I already have told a few friends.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCame with an out of town guestCame with an out of town guest who was hoping to see Sammy Hager. No celebrity sighting - but we had a great time. Excellent duck wings and deviled eggs to start. The shrimp Louie entree salad was very good and was unusual as the shrimp was tempura battered and fried. The veal chop was perfectly cooked. Portions are generous. The restaurant is beautiful and very charming. Our friend raved about it and said how lucky we are to have an establishment of this caliber in town.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBut what Is A Bar Steak?I had the Heritage Cut English Pork Chop which was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and large. The pastry served as bread was Yorkshire Pudding which was very good. I could have eaten more than one, but I didn't want to ask. The smashed potatoes I ordered on the side were very tasty, but $8 dollars for potatoes or any side dish is a bit much. The dessert, Butterscotch Pudding was very good. But, the oral description of the other desserts starting with the word "deconstructed" left me flat. Deconstructed is another word for experimental, good or bad. We had a great experience. My wife had mystery "bar steak" with a mountain of fries. She felt it wasn't worth the price. Devils on Horseback starter was delicious.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAll in all a great spot. All in all a great spot. Have not eaten there for ages. TF has maintained it's beauty and made it even better. The food was well thought out, fun, and yummy. We had a great evening there.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant was cozy and warmRestaurant was cozy and warm feeling. The food was very good. The pace of the meal was relaxing but did not drag. They forgot our dessert but comp-ed us when reminded. Wait staff was very good.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA bit pricey but very goodA bit pricey but very good meal, great service, great wine but a little bit of a limited menu in the under $60 range for reds. Best steak I have had in the bay area in the last few years.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful Setting great steaksWent to El Paseo for a girls night out. What a quaint restaurant, felt like we walked into a beautiful courtyard in Spain! El paseo is about the steaks & it didn't disappoint! Also Ordered the shrimp Louie & the shrimp was so flavorful & sweet it tasted like lobster! Our waiter Elvin was informative and charming, he made us feel right at home!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food. I orderedFantastic food. I ordered the filet mignon and it was heavenly! The cheese plate was also delicious.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen there four times in 12Been there four times in 12 months, it keeps getting better.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbiance + Food = The Best!We dinned at El Paseo for my husbands 40th birthday and it was perfect. The food was off the charts. Loved the ambiance inside.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI made reservations at ElI made reservations at El Paseo to celebrate my 30th birthday. The food was beyond delicious, the service was impeccable and the setting was rustic and romantic. Mill Valley is a beautiful, quaint town and for sure worth the drive from San Jose. Cannot wait to return for more crispy duck wings!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEl Paseo... Oh yeah!!This was our 2nd time to El Paseo and it was just as delicious or even better than the first time. The service and attention to detail is outstanding. Not to mention the food is beyond amazing. Always tasty and generous portions. This restaurant is a must go!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionFrom the moment you walk in, you know you are in for a special and unique experience. The cobblestone walkway and outdoor seating areas twinkling with lights set a romantic and warm mood. Inside, a beautiful dining room and relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere are part of the exceptional experience that is El Paseo. Superior service from start to finish and a great wine list but the star is the food which was perfectly prepared and presented. We had tuna tartare to start then ordered short ribs and a bacon-wrapped filet (perfectly cooked) and shared a side of creamed spinach. All delicious! We were never kept waiting for another glass of wine or refilled water glass.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food was divine, the servicethe food was divine, the service outstanding...this was a birthday dinner, and my daughter had several dietary restrictions. our server went out of her way to accomodate and check on specific ingredients...a fabulous evening and meal...4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMost romantic restaurant in MarinExcellent food. Attentive service. Most romantic restaurant in Marin County.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there on Easter eveningWe were there on Easter evening so it was slow. That may be the reason everything was so nice. Either way we really enjoyed being in a nearly empty room where we could hear each other talk. Great property with @5 different rooms where you could be seated. Food was a bit overpriced but it was very good.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the trek from SF!We loved El Paseo. We were inspired to try their steaks after seeing Tyler Florence teach Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa, his method of steak preparation on her TV show. We were not disappointed! My son and one of his friends had the filet mignon, another friend had the steak frites, and my husband and I shared the 32 oz. Creek Stone Cowboy Ribeye. We were all very satisfied with our steaks! Another person could have shared our ribeye!
We had deviled eggs as an appetizer and their Caesar and green salads. All were excellent!! Our server was warm, engaging and professional. I guess we'll have to visit our SF-based son more often to enjoy El Paseo's phenomenal steaks. Summer outdoor seating should be phenomenal!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood: A++ Service: Not so muchOverall, the food was amazing. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, and the crispy duck wings were great, if a little messy. The service was not great, however. Our waitress seemed distracted and a little judgmental of our food choices. We each ordered the 8 ounce filet mignon -- the smallest steak on the menu -- and neither of us could finish it. So, I didn't appreciate feeling bullied into ordering a larger steak. Also, she tried to tell us that the side orders were single servings and warned us when we decided to split two. Warning: the sides are huge! Which is great, obviously. I'm just glad I went with my gut and didn't fall for her sales tactic. We ordered the smashed potatoes and the creamed spinach -- both of which were super tasty.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious - Ahi Tuna TartarDelicious - Ahi Tuna Tartar and Deviled eggs where amazing appetizers, Filet was delicious. Desserts where spot on. Only negative was veal chop which was underwhelming. Waitress seemed a tad disappointed that we only ordered Ice Tea, but otherwise perfect evening.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingA truly amazing experience. Each course was thoughtful, savory and a pleasure. I thoroughly enjoyed the green pea risotto, which was delicate yet rich with flavors. My fiancé ordered the filet w a side of mushrooms that was like smoked butter gift-wrapped in bacon, it was so flavorful and tender. The finale was deconstructed bourbon pecan pie, with bourbon ice cream. The sweet salty mix was perfect and finished the meal in a richly satisfying way. Service was warm and friendly though spotty at times. Overall, an outstanding experience. We will be back.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent steaks, terrible dessertsteaks were AMAZING. best i've ever had. the apps and salads were just fine but if you've dined at wayfare then you've had them before. unfortunately, the meal was capped off with sub-par desserts that were just mediocre. what a terrible way to end a delicious meal.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience. HaveExcellent experience. Have wanted to eat here for a long time!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemEl Paseo is a gem. Atmosphere is always beautiful no matter which hidden area you are placed in. Once the weather gets warmer, will definitely ask to dine outdoors at the table designed only for romance. Excellent food & wonderful, accomodating staff. The lobster salad is a consistent winner!!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. We went earlyExcellent food. We went early because we have a 15month old. They were very accomadating to our needs. The service was great! Though we didn't order dessert because our daughter was getting too wild, but it look good from across the table. We even saw the mayor and a rock star there all in one night. How awesome is that!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was an unforgettable night,It was an unforgettable night, one we plan to experience again. The food and service were outstanding.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMShort ribs and filet was excellent.Short ribs and filet was excellent. Will definitely be back. Next time I will make sure I get hot mashed potatoes the first time.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMsiskle n ebertI ate here for my birthday, and loved every minute of being here. Great food with a real home style menu made elegantly. 2 thumbs up.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
