A word from El Paseo
El Paseo is a local Chophouse. We are open daily from 5pm - 10pm.

In 2009 local Mill Valley residents Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar partnered to take over the restaurant. Seeking to maintain the historic charm and integrity of the building and gardens, they planned and designed a complete restoration of the storied interior and exterior spaces. They are very excited to bring a local institution back to its former glory.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Our dinner party was comprised of 3 adults and 1 child. The food was outstanding along with attentive service. My steak was prepared exactly as I instructed. The ambiance was perfect. We all enjoyed the experience. I highly recommend El Paseo."

  • "We dined here for my 30th Birthday with a small group and it was perfectly romantic and fun for a small group in the bar section!"

  • "The staff was attentive and the food delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the joy of the meal."

  • "We went back to El Paseo after many years for our anniversary they day before July 4th. The food was very good however they appeared short on wait staff. I don't thing they anticipated they number of people that showed up without reservations."

  • "It has been a while since we had been there. We used to think the food was good, but it has certainly slipped. I had the scallops and they were covered in some kind of heavy red sauce. There was so much red sauce that I could not tell a scallop from a potato. The prices were high and the food disappointing."

  • "Service was impeccable. Knowledgable and attentive from the server choosing my wine, to the ones clearing my plates, to making decisions on my course selection. Food was obviously prepared with love and devotion."

  • "The food and ambience were lovely but I was uncomfortably warm and really just wanted to get out of there by the end of the meal. Portions were not enormous and the food delicious and cooked to requested degree of doneness. All in all a very nice dinner and reasonable prices, but I will wait til it's cooler to go again."

  • "We (my wife and I) had the 72oz steak, the smashed, herb potatoes and the beet salad. The medium cooked steak was by far the best I've ever had."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Took my folks and my daughter here for grad night. Wanted something special. Hate to put negative stuff on the web - so I won't. read what others have said - totally true despite being in the first dinner seating. Highlight was the salads.."

  • "This is our 2nd experience with El Paseo. The first time was fabulous! This time-not so much. We drove 2 hours with friends to have a dining experience at Tyler's place and arrive early enough for a cocktail in the bar before dinner. The bartender seemed bored that we were there-not friendly or outgoing. Our server seemed as though she was forcing a smile the couple of times she actually tried to smile. The place was busy but not that busy! We didn't get the feeling she was overwhelmed but also didn't get the feeling she wanted to be there. It was our friends first time there-she is a huge Tyler fan. My husband and I were disappointed it wasn't the great experience of our first visit."

  • "Expected more comfort food feel - not petite with flair. For the price, snapper appetizer had color, right tones and tastes together, but looked like a jumbled mess on plate. Oysters Rockefeller was nice, but overpowered by spinach. Creamed spinach was overly salty. Beets were great. Pork Chop was great. Overall value could have been better in order to get us to return anytime soon."

  • "I recently went there with a group of girlfriends for my birthday. The food was excellent, as was the service. The rib-eye and the scallops were amazing. Don't miss the whipped potatoes side. The desserts were to die for. I had always wanted to eat here, it's such a lovely, quaint spot, nestled down a little brick alleyway. Not sure why it took so long to get there but it was worth the wait. It would be great for a romantic night but was fun for us too. After we ate, we ended up sitting outside around the fire pit talking some more and the staff were very accommodating and didn't rush us away."

  • "I came here to check out Tyler Florence's restaurant as I love cooking his recipes. My friend and I shared the Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer - they were excellent and featured a nice chunk of bacon on top of the perfect mound of warm spinach and of course the oyster. Very nicely done. We moved on to the pork chop which had excellent flavor and a nice smokey quality that added to the flavors. We ordered macaroni and cheese which was cheesy but bland - they should have used a smoked gouda or a sharper cheese and added some truffles or another flavor to give some distinction...disappointing. We also ordered salads which were good but not very interesting - no caesar on the menu which seems to be a staple in a chophouse."

  • "We were greeted by David, the manager who I have known over the years. The service was excellent as was the food. The noise level quite tolerable. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The table next to us are friends so we shared that each of our daughters were moving back east. The music fit the restaurant to a tee. I would highly recommend it for special occasions as the prices are steep but worth it!"

  • "Our waiter was terrible. Never refilled our wine, forgot a side dish and brought it when we were done with our meal. Spoke to manager David and he was great. He took good care of us after that."

  • "Apps were good. Nice Bone Marrow and I really liked the Bib Salad. However the entrees took FOREVER to come out. I can't stand Yelp but the reviews on the long wait times are true. I will not return to this place unfortunately."

  • "Service awful - after one and half hour wait asked waitress what was going on. She sent over manager who said they were backed up. Come on -- This restaurant is almost always full - they should know how to handle business. For the prices they charge they should have sufficient staff. Manager offered the glass of wine I had consumed as "on the house" - I left a tip of $10 for the waitress, left and went to In-N-Out Burger for dinner. We were both shocked!! Feeble excuse - almost no one in our dining room had food. We have eaten here numerous times - even rented a large private room for a Thanksgiving dinner - but would NEVER RETURN."

  • "We greatly enjoyed our night at El Paseo , electing to eat in the bar for the more casual ambiance. The food was delicious and service superb. When they undercooked our sturgeon they promptly returned with fresh plates and proceeded to then comp us 2 deserts. We appreciated the excellent wine list and made good use of it! The service was excellent, the food delicious- we will certainly be back."

  • "The building is lovely, the menu is great, the service was not great that day. The young woman who seated us literally didn't smile or say a word to us. Our waitress was okay but a little impatient. Food service was very efficient. Dinner was delicious. At the end of dinner, and after placing money in the folder, my husband dashed off for a minute to the restroom. The waitress swiftly came over and asked "Do you need any change?" I said I didn't know, that he would be right back, and she replied, "Well, if he left I guess he doesn't need change". I found out he was waiting for the change to adjust the tip, but she was already gone. We really enjoyed our wonderful meals! I just wish the service had been different."

  • "This was one of the best meals we've ever had in the Bay Area. Everything was outstanding and prepared to perfection. Two of us had the veal chop and it was done perfectly. The side of smashed potatoes was actually a remarkably creative dish - new potatoes with rosemary and herbs briefly placed in a frier for an unusual, yummy taste, but light (not heavy like french fries). Our only concern was in the bar while waiting for our table (we were early). There was an apparently drunk group at one table hooting and hollering to each other, making it impossible for everyone else to have normal conversations. All the other patrons gave them dagger eyes, but it didn't seem to do any good. We remarked to the bartender, but nothing was done."

  • "Aways a place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and special moments. With Tyler Florence in charge, it's consistently a pleasure, our latest anniversary was no exception. Whether for classic steak, or casual burger, you will be satisfied. The signature popovers and charcuterie plate are excellent starters. Salads delicately dressed. Bacon wrapped Filet Mignon perfect temperature. Roasted beet side dish a nice diversion. Well done all around!"

  • "Made reservation weeks in advance for anniversary celebration, looking forward to a spectacular experience. Were to be given a tiny table in center of crowded dining room, how unromantic. Wait over half an hour for another small table by a window in crowded fire pit area, $17 for a Chardonnay, only two choices by the glass... no cocktails either. Server unfriendly, Charcuterie OK, but over an hour wait for entrees. 3 Diver Scallops were hidden in a bunch of potatoes, other dish a tasteless chicken. Would not recommend, not even for overpriced glass of wine. Not even wished happy anniversary. Hoped to provide everyone rave reviews of our anniversary dinner, but it was far from it. What a shame to leave feeling nothing but price gouged."

  • "The food was good, but what I noticed was the plush, very comfortable, spacious booth; the extraordinarily good server and the excellent wine she recommended. Great place for a conversation."

  • "Menu, quality of food and service has all gone down somewhat from the bar of the last few years. Changed menu lacks the feeling of special, local terroir as existing a year ago (used to have local grass-fed veal, for example, now replaced with grain-fed Nebraska generic steakhouse fare). Lead waiter surprisingly didn't offer tastes of wines when trying to decide, charged for a returned glass of wine(!), food took too long to come out. Best part about the restaurant is still the Carmel-esque atmosphere and great waitstaff/junior staff who are IMPECCABLE. "

  • "Food was ok, we felt it was over priced. Not somewhere we would go for a special occassion, more just casual so does not fit the higher price tag."

  • "This was the first visit for myself and my colleagues. When you walk in to the restaurant, we felt we were in a charming European village. Pictures of this place do not do it justice! The appetizers and main dishes we had were so simple, but absolutely amazing. I look forward to returning many more times! "

  • "I took my Mom here for Mother's day dinner, with my father and boyfriend as well. We all had the Ribeye dinner for two, plus salads, plus dessert...everything from the moment we were seated, until we left, was perfect! Service was great, the Tyler Florence wine was great, and the food was superb as usual. "

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the food was. I had the beet and strawberry salad along with the wild salmon. My husband and I shared the chocolate coconut cake. The entire meal was fabulous in presentation and taste. "

  • "We were disappointed by our experience as we had high expectations. The ambiance was outstanding and exactly as expected. The wine and appetizers/salads were good; the main entrees so-so. Short ribs were fine, but the scallop dish (if you can call it that will three TINY scallops) was a total disappointment. And the service was unremarkable. "

  • " El Paseo feels as though one has entered a charming European village with stone walkways, and lovely gardens. One is surrounded by curved stone walls & floral vines, and will be fed fabulous food with attentive service. There are so many choices for seating atmospheres, and costs. You may chose the higher priced large chops or steaks which are famous, or more reasonably chose their chicken, risotto, or scallops which are fabulous! The wine list is extesive: from good, yet reasonable, moving up to a connoisseur's palate! Nothing quite like it, unless you are dinning in a European village! It is unique and makes any visit special!"

  • "Updated steakhouse cuisine with flair. Never miss the deviled eggs. Filet is transcendent. Chocolate dessert to finish. Soup and cheese board were also top notch."

  • "Definitely give it a shot. Great food, good service, excellent wine list. You even get to see them prepping the food when you walk up to the hostess stand so you can see how amazing it all will look. It tastes as great as you'd expect. Try not to fill up on the popovers."

  • "Dinner was for a birthday and I asked for a quiet area, it did not turn out that way, they sat us next to a table of 6 and it was very annoying."

  • "The food was very tasty. The service was slow and server had a indifferent attitude although pleasant. We were served one popover each and was never asked whether we would like more. Thought the price for their chicken pot pie at $22 was high as it was a small serving and was not anything special. "
