Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is a neighborhood jewel. The food was authentic and well prepared. The service was good and all staff was attentive."

  • "It was fairly quiet in here when we went for a 7:30 dinner. There were about 10 other people in there, but the space is large with very high ceilings so you don't feel cramped at all. Starting bread was fresh and warm... and delicious. Get the grilled octopus. It's very tender and cooked with a fantastic sauce. There was this weird, gelatinous substance around it though, but I think that's just how octopus is and I was unfamiliar with it. The valenciana paella looked beautiful, but the flavor was a little bland. It could have used a bit more spice. The sausage in it was very tasty though. Overall, a great place. A big group came in, maybe 15 people, so this place could be great for parties too."

  • "EL Mio Cid always excels! Just when you think they can`t get any better, they do! In their approach to Chillean Sea Bass, they can't be beat! FANTASTIC!!!"

  • "Food was authentic Spanish food! We enjoyed our tapas! We ordered six plates and enjoyed them all as well as the sangria. We really loved the grilled sardines. The service was excellent."

  • "A last-minute change of plans left us scrambling to find a restaurant as we rode the train into Brooklyn. El Mio Cid turned out to be a delightful discovery. Our group of four ordered pitchers of sangria and about eight tapas and we were well pleased. The restaurant is larger than it appears from outside, and since it was not crowded we had plenty of room and a reasonable noise level. The menu offers a huge variety -- too much for me to remember, but we liked it all. Our host was helpful with suggestions. For dessert we had the crème brulee -- which came flambéed -- and a chocolate dish that was similar to a deconstructed s'more. And at the end, our host treated us to a digestif. So we had a great time and would definitely come again!"

  • "I have had two really nice dinners here. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. The red sangria is really good and the Spanish dishes are authentic. The staff is always very nice and attentive. I will definitely go back."

  • "The food was outstanding. One of my dining companions and I had the lobster stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat. My other friend had the vegetable paella which was wonderful....so flavorful. My other friend had salmon. I believe she thought the portion was on the smallish side but tasty. The desserts were wonderful also."

  • "Authentic Spanish cuisine that will satisfy your taste buds. This is a family operation that is small but quality of dining in The old country. Harold was our waiter and was most attentive to our needs as was his dad. We will go back any time were in the area."

  • "Spanish restaurant with good food. Portions are plentiful and tasty. Had dinner with my wife. She had the salad with goat cheese appetizer (excellent) and the paella valencia, and I had the sauteed octopus appetizer (excellent and the paella marinara. Both paella were good but not great. Portion were large. Paella actually tasted better the second day when the leftovers were heated. All in all a nice restaurant if you are in the area."

  • "The place is great and the food is better. The service was a bit slow . The staff is helpful and friendly but I felt as if I waited for ever to be serve. The food is really good."

  • "This is a true jem. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Chorizios, meatballs, quail, olives and list goes on. Great sangria too."

  • "Had a very good meal at this quaint and cozy Spanish restaurant. The steak was wonderful and had a great grilled flavor. The mixed seafood platter with garlic sauce was another great choice we made. We look forward to going back to try more tasty dishes. The sangria could have been fruitier (sweeter) but what the heck do I know about sangria?"

  • "Better than the first time. White sangria a must. Friendly, attentive staff. Sweatbreads were not crispy but delicious. Paella looked & tasted separated, rice below with seafood placed on top with cold pemiento. Potions were reasonable. Food tasty."

  • "We arrived quite late at night on Columbus Day after having looked on OpenTable for restaurants open that late and being quite surprised to see one in our own East Brooklyn area. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately upon coming in. The server was excellent, attentive and made lots of recommendations. The food was delicious - with nice generous portions (unlike some tapas restaurants that take tapas style to an "extreme"). We didn't get to try the vegeterian paella since the kitchen mixed up the order, but the server was so apologetic that you didn't hear any of us complain. Plus, we were already full from all of the other dishes! On the whole, this is an EXCELLENT local find and a place that I think I will be taking my family too!"

  • "What a fabulous meal we all had Saturday night. The stuffed lobster is awesome. The paella is ample enough for two people to share and well worth the extra charge for the lobster."

  • "Our party of 6 all enjoyed our delicious meals and the generous portions. Great sangria, had the red and my daughter and friends enjoyed the interesting, non-traditional sangria variations. Great value."

  • "My honey and I initially went to El Mio Cid on Thursday, July 12th. We had such a great dining experience, that immediately after that dinner I booked for the upcoming Saturday, July 12th so that my parents could experience the same. Great atmosphere, romantic settings, low light so fitting & the service was as stellar as the food choices. They have quite a large tapas menu to choose from. try the chorizo, try the garlic shrimp & try the stuffed mushrooms to be complimented by the Red sangria."

  • "Didn't really know what to expect. Bushwick....has changed and El Mio is a great example of how much. Beautiful restaurant. Attentive staff. Great cook. And super yummy sangria. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Get the roasted chorizios and flan!"

  • "It was a very disappointing experience, The food portions are large (for tapas), though, did not taste very fresh, to say the least."

  • "The lentil soup and chicken breast strips were a little too salty for our tatsebuds and the bread was overtoasted. The yellow rice was very good."

  • "El Mio Cid does everything well. My wife's pork chops were juicey & well seasoned; my Tapas one chorizo; one blood sausage were spicey and very flavorable. The staff is efficient and very friendly. When trekking through Brooklyn, a must-do!"

  • "Who ever thought a little gem like this could be found in Bushwick!!"

  • "The food was good. It was a Monday evening and we were the only two there it was very romantic. The server notice we were on a date he compted us a dessert it made the night. I would go back"

  • "This was my fourth visit to El Mio Cid. The service was spotty as we kept getting different people to serve us. The restaurant also had me as a "NO SHOW" even though I gave them my name and told them I had a reservation. Who's minding the store here???? The food is wonderful despite the uneven service."
    Dined on 1/28/2012
  • "The great thing about El Mio is that the wait staff was awesome! They were very attentive and extremely polite. The food was a total bust. The 2 stars are because his quail, my chorizo and our sangria were the "stars" of the evening. We ordered chicken croquettes (actually, potato croquettes) with tomato sauce, scallops in cilantro sauce (boiled, not seared), quail in fig sauce with fried potato (quail was over but the sauce was good), baked clams oreganata style (sandy and fishy) and chorizo with onion peppers and wine (star of the night). We both had tres leches which should be homemade, but this cake was clearly store-bought soaked in milk. The sangria was only good because it was spiked with rum. Will not return."

  • "We went here after reading great reviews. We all may be food snobs, but did not find the food that appetizing. Te steaks were asked for medium and medium well and they came out rare and medium rare. Had to send them back I be refired and they came back black on the outside and still very rare in the middle."

  • "What a fun night at El Mio Cid!! This is a quaint spot worth venturing to. The food is great, authentic, and there is something for everyone. We were impressed with the affordable choices on the wine list. The server was friendly and efficient. I am looking forward to going back!"

  • "Wonderful Service! This was my first visit to El Mio Cid. My son, who has dined there before, requested an appetizer that he especially liked. They didn't have the ingredients available, but the manager sent someone out to get it! The meal was amazing. We will be back."

  • "This was our 2nd visit this week as we enjoyed our first dining experience. We each had the Fajitas; succulent, tastey and ample enough for take away which we enjoyed as left-overs. We will be back!"
    Dined on 12/13/2011
  • "El Mio Cid is an excellent addition to Open Table's Brooklyn's restaurants. Convenient by subway and auto, El Mio Cid brings the staff's extensive professional food service experience to the up & coming neighborhod of Bushwick. We began our meal with the Fried Calamari whose dipping sauce was flavorful, not bland. My wife's pork chops were well seasoned with a wonderful Spanish flair reminding her of our dining in Lanzorote, Spain; my Chicken Fajitas were succulent and well seasoned as well. As the portions are ammple, we enjoyed our left-overs several days later. El Mio Cid s a MOST-NOT-MISS when traveling to or through Bklyn."

  • "Everything was just fantastic. If it wasn't for open table I probably would of not tried this place and that would of been a great loss. Bushwick needed a place like this. Jf"
    Dined on 12/2/2011
  • "This was my second visit and it was even better than the first time. My friends loved it and told me, "You picked a winner this time!" I always pick a winner. We have never been disappointed with the opentable experience."
    Dined on 11/19/2011
  • "What a surprise my friend and I had. This little neighborhood gem is only five blocks from the Brooklyn-Queens border. It's where Williamsburgh, Bushwick and Maspeth practically converge. The food was outstanding. One must try the spinach and fig salad with a balsamic reduction. The portions are adequate for two to share."
    Dined on 11/15/2011
  • "Wow! Quietly nestled among the bodegas of slowly gentrified Bushwick, El Mio Cid sets itself apart. Although its corner location makes it seem deceptively small, the interior is expansive and well-decorated. The flatscreen TVs near the bar allow patrons to keep track of each score and event, but the sound does not interrupt the dining experience. Having several menu options for the vegetarian and the carnivore, the food is unrealistically good. Portions are plentiful, so be prepared to take the rest to go (the food tastes just as delicious on the second day). The service, menu options, cuisine and ambiance are A+. The earlier it is, the quieter it is, and you won't be overrun by hipsters, either."

  • "if you are looking for a fun place to go with a group and have some really great food, this is the place. Excellent for sharing as the dining room has nice large tables and the tapas are nicely sized for groups of 3-6. the waitstaff is VERY friendly and will take great care of you! glad we found this little gem!!"
