We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at El Meze. Our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable about the wine and food menus. He recommended a stellar wine. Although the menu is limited everything is local and very fresh. The preparations are unique and seasoned perfectly.

This is such a great find, especially after all the same type of restaurants in Taos. Great service, great food. Love the donut dessert and pasta entree. The moon coming up over the mountain top set my guests about over the moon, they were so impressed. Loved that everyone was comfortably warm with heaters and blankets. Definitely coming back.

We enjoyed this restaurant so much we went back the next night. We dined outdoors with a spectacular view of Mt. Wheeler. Our servers Gabriel and Zak were both attentive and knowledgeable but not intrusive. The menu is Spanish eclectic with several very unique dishes. I had the buffalo tamale in a bowl of Hatch chiles that was wonderfully spicy and flavorful. The homemade pasta was delicious. The wine list was adequate and paired well with the menu. Gabriel was very helpful in navigating the wine choices. We will definitely be returning to El Mez when we return to Taos.

Had a wonderful meal on Friday night. the selection of entrees are limited but we tried the special pasta (with handpicked fresh mushrooms from the area), the wonderful trout and the steak. The tomato salad with good cheese was extra special direct from one of the waiters garden. Our waitress was very helpful in suggesting a wine and recommending appetizers and dessert. a wonderful evening looking out at the sunset on the mountains. can't wait to return again.

We were very happy with the food selection and all of the things we tried were wonderfully prepared and very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to the Taos area. Our server was very busy, but he was knowledgable about the menu and we ordered many appetizers and a delicious Heirloom tomato salad. The house pasta was wonderful and the dessert, a frozen concoction. made up by one of the owners was so yummy and a great way to end the meal. The chef and his partner were very hospitable, too! We were so fortunate to try this place on a lovely evening as we were able to sit outside and enjoy their garden in the back.

I don't often rate restaurants as perfect, but El Meze is as close as it comes: A perfect blend of well-planned, well executed dishes, attentive yet unobtrusive service and a view to die for. The menu, while not vast, is well conceived and changes seasonally, using fresh herbs grown within eye-shot. Service is near flawless. This was our favorite, most memorable meal in a week-long road trip filled with great meals. My only regret is not living in closer proximity to Taos to make this a regular destination.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The food was delicious. The wine was excellent. I showed up thirsty. They serve bottled water. My water glass was never empty. The main course took just a little while to show up after our appetizers were done, but we were not in a hurry. The dessert menu was excellent. Worthy of my five-star rating.

This was our first time dining at El Meze, and while the food was very good, the menu has limited offerings, especially for those with a selective palate. Check the menu on their website before you dine, so you won't be caught off guard when you get to the restaurant.

When the weather is good and the patio is open, the view of the mountains is perfect. We enjoyed our meal and wine selection. Although the white wine selection is mostly Spanish which are wines we aren't as familiar with. The waiter tried to select the one closest to a Pinot Grigio and it just didn't match. However, a red that was selected from Languedoc region of France was delicious. For our entrees, we both ordered the trout which was blackened and quite good. The local vegetables, green beans, were delicious - cooked with butter and hazelnuts, topped with blue cheese. Also, loved the fresh local greens in the salad.

Have eaten here in both June and August this summer and have found the menu unchanged and lacking in enough choices for entrees which are reasonably good but not for repeat customers. The steak choice is unreasonably priced at around $45. I had the buffalo spare ribs (appetizer menu) instead of an entree and found them to be so highly seasoned that they were not enjoyable. The Romain salad was, however, the best part of the meal. My dining partner had the Trout for a second time, which was good also.

Visiting Taos for a couple of weeks, we have dined out quite a bit. El Meze was outstanding. We enjoyed sitting on the patio with the lovely courtyard and garden and great mountain views. Very interesting and diverse menu. My husband had the pasta which was delicious. I had the tamale which was the best I have ever eaten (and believe me I have eaten a lot of tamales in my day!) Dessert was terrific also. Our server was pleasant and attentive. All around great experience.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff in a modest, center-courted building, but shared with another restaurant and the local waterworks company! I was seated outside on the patio with a garden/mountain view. I particularly enjoyed the Herbed Frites with Horseradish Aioli as an appetizer, and the Truchas Yerba Buena (whole grilled trout with a lemon, herbed sauce) and served with an Herb Salad, as a main course. To accompany the meal throughout, I chose a refreshing, sparkling white wine by the glass. For dessert, I chose the heavenly, lavender-flavored Creme Brulee. El Meze is the perfect place for an excellent meal away from the crowded Plaza in Taos!

My husband and I went to El Meze for our 10th anniversary dinner. The food and service was amazing. We were seated outdoors at a table with a beautiful view of the mountains. Unfortunately, we choose a night that a very large, loud group was eating outside as well. We could barely hear each other talking, so we left early. Other than that, we would highly recommend this restaurant!

We were greeted by name! What a special beginning to our anniversary dinner. The out door dining and view of the Taos Mountain made the perfect setting for a special dining experience. The meal was outstanding with choices unique to El Meze. The wine list was a surprise with few if any wines we were familiar with, which are mostly from California. However, the Tempranillo we choose was delicious. Service was excellent! We felt pampered and ate and drank out of our comfort zone--enjoying every bite and very sip! There was something on the menu for every taste. We will return and highly recommend El Meze!

We dined indoors, as it was cool outside. we were initially concerned that the menu seemed relatively short. However, the four of us ordered several appetizers and the homemade pasta (DELICIOUSO!!) ... we were NOT disappointed. The food was excellent. The service was friendly, attentive, helpful and a key to our wonderful dining experience. The almond semi-freddo is incredible -- and we had 2 chocolate lovers that said it was once of the best desserts ever had! Very enjoyable evening*****

We had a wonderful dinner at El Meze while traveling to Taos. It is such an unimposing little building from the road view, but absolutely charming inside and on the outdoor patio. I had requested a table with a view of the mountains and we were seated outside, but the view was partially blocked by their canopy. When a better table opened up they very graciously moved us to that table and we had a fabulous view. The food was delicious - my husband had the buffalo tamale and I had the trout - both were unique and tasty. The service was spot on - very friendly and attentive without hovering. I highly recommend this restaurant and if I lived in Taos, I'd be a regular!

We live in New Mexico and have been to the restaurant 3 times, each visit was wonderful. We like restaurants with a fairly limited menu where each dish is very well prepared with an unusual flair, instead of enormous menus with just mediocre food. The service is hands-on which is rare these days and we would highly recommend El Meze to people who are looking for high standards with a friendly atmosphere. The deserts are down right wicked!

Excellent food and service. I had the Short Ribs and my wife had the trout - both were fantastic. The pomme frites were uniquely seasoned and delicious as an appetizer and the cardamom doughnuts were very tasty to end the evening. Our server Kelly could not have been more attentive or helpful when looking to order any portion of our meal or the wine. Another nice twist is they serve imported still and sparkling water at no extra charge. A very enjoyable experience and we will visit again next time we are in the area.

Each dish was a sublime combination of flavors that exploded on each bite. The wait staff and management were professional in every respect, right down to pairing the wines. This modest appearing restaurant is really fine. The al fresco dining on the back porch has the best view in town, and the staff attend to the details such as space heaters and lap blankets if needed. We ate in late June and needed neither. Weather was perfect. The menu featured local ingredients prepared with local, Spanish and Moroccan influences. Very flavorful without overbearing spices. Chef Fred has a very deft hand with his spices. The wine list is not large, but it is thoughtful and interesting. We had a very nice bottle of something Spanish (sorry I forgot what it was). Do not miss the cicharrones! They are worth the trip all by themselves. Be sure to eat here if you like great food--It was our favorite in Taos.

Romantic setting outdoors with beautiful view of the mountains and a well manicured garden. Service was relaxed yet attentive. The ambience was perfect--not overly quiet but well chosen music in the background and easy to converse privately. Delicious wines paired well with fresh local food--my grilled trout was a revelation of how good a simple dish could be--salted and grilled with a finish of chopped herbs and olive oil. My husband had the ribeye cooked to perfection and savored every bite! Butterleaf lettuce salad with tarragon and blueberries was delicious, as were the fried, stuffed olives. Cardamom donuts for dessert are a must-served in a martini glass so you can drink the chocolate sauce (which the hubby could not resist).

We didn't expect to be seated al fresco, but it was a pleasant surprise. When the night cooled off, they provided blankets and gas heaters! The food and wine met our expectations, although the wine list variety was fairly narrow (representing mainly Spain and France, if I recall, and mostly high-end bottles). I chose this place for the excellent food reviews, knowing the ambiance had room for improvement. We had a great evening - just what we expected!

El Mese is a reason to go to Taos if nothing else there interests you. The grilled romaine, tuna carpaccio, amazing desserts and impeccable service are top drawer. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the friendly ladies, given a selection of table waters (where in Taos do you get that?), and served as a personal guest by the wait staff you feel "special". Our waiter even advised us if we did not like our dish after we tried it he would bring something else to make sure we were satisfied. He could speak with confidence since all of our food was excellent! The ambiance offered a beautiful view of the mountains which was frequently photographed by diners. We look forward to our next trip to El Meze!

We ate here twice during our week stay in Taos. I chose El Meze because of the reviews on Open Table even though our hotel concierge didn't include it on his list of places to dine. And we are glad we did! The tuna carpaccio is amazing and the chiccarones are a wonderful and unusual appetizer. I had both the roast chicken and the lamb chops on our two visits while my wife had the lamb and the trout. Everything was wonderful and the service that Harley provided was exemplary.
