A word from El Mansour
El Mansour is a well known Moroccan restaurant that has been in business for the last 38 years. We offer traditional Moroccan food. It is very important to us to serve homemade high quality ingredients. We make our own bread, sauces and phillo dough on a daily basis.
El Mansour is more than a culinary experience, it is also a trip to Morocco. Decorated with the authentic Moroccan decors, everything was imported from Morocco indeed. We also offer entertainment from Tuesday to Sunday. At El Mansour you will be our guest for a night, you will enjoy our tasty food, great ambiance and caring service.Continued
Diner Reviews
  • "If you are looking for a fun night, in a group or on your own, this is a wonderful place. The seating is community style and I ventured out on my own - but quickly joined a friendly group. Food is good, feels just like being in Morocco. The dancer was great and she got us up to dance with her and showed us some moves. Fun times !"

  • "I'm Moroccan and I have very high standards when it comes to Moroccan food (my grand mother makes the best Moroccan cuisine) and I have to say that I was extremely pleased by El Mansour. The menu variety is great and it offers customers a wide range of options from traditional Moroccan food. All the flavors are there! We went there for a friend's birthdays and we all unanimously loved the place!"

  • "Celebrated a wonderful birthday evening and almost had this place to ourselves. Amazing food, generous portions, an eat with your hands affair we laughed and feasted on. Good belly dancer but missed Sasha and her sword dance,"

  • "We made a reservation for my wife's 40th birthday party. We had five in our group. The food was way above what I expected, healthy and delicious. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful. We closed down the place and never felt hurried. I highly recommend. "

  • "Celebrated my birthday here and had a large group. They were able to seat us together and made sure we were all clear regarding the menu and prices. The belly dancing made it fun and the food was soooo delicious! Some people in my group had never tried Moroccan food and they loved it. Great service as well! "

  • "My positives about the restaurant in the same order: Food, Ambience, Belly dancing show, service. The food was really unique and authentic. It is a go to place for vegetarians. Belly dancer was very talented, performed well and interacted with the customers. She taught some belly dancing moves and was really sweet about it. Ambience is really good. This place looks authentic but is still bright and cheerful. A great place for large group of people as the setting still feels very intimate - not like a long table where u only get to say a Hi and a Bye to people in a group. Negatives - The waiter spilled hot tea on my friends legs which was a burning experience. Overall, this place gets a thumps up from me."

  • "This is our new favorite restaurant! We originally came out for a girls night, and were shocked to see how our expectations were met over and over again throughout the night here. We were amazed by the food, they were so welcoming we felt like family, and we can't wait to go back soon. "

  • "The food was great however my expectations were lowered this visit since the belly dancer started collecting dollar bills and it seemed like I was at a strip club. I took my boyfriend for the awesome experience I had the first time I went (food, show, and personal dance lesson by belly dancer to the group) not for a cheap dollar show. I was quite dissapointed with the dance show."

  • "This was the most amazing restaurant i've been to yet. Between the authentic Moroccan experience to the refined foods we ate, this place is truly amazing. You can't go wrong with any food items here and it was a truly entertaining night between the belly dancing and the big birthday parties that were having so much fun to the wait staff who wash your hands for you and cater to your every culinary need. I would go back here every night if I lived in the area."

  • "My husband and 15 year old son went in for dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was excellent. We were surprised that they had belly dancing on a sunday. Our son danced and had a great time. I laughed my head off. The service was very good as well. We were the first table of the night, but we felt well cared for."

  • "I came here for my birthday celebration this past weekend. I had been here previously and thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it would be a fun place to go with my friends. We had a lot of fun, however the service was very slow and it seemed at time that they forgot about us all together. Over all still highly recommend this place, great atmosphere."

  • "The atmosphere at El Mansour is relaxing, the service is very attentive and the food is delicious. It is mostly a fixed price menu, but the portions and different varieties of dishes included are more than satisfying. If you go with a party of 3 or more, ask for the tasting menu and you get to try a little of several of the entrees. The included lentil soup, Moroccan salad and Bestela are fantastic . . . and the frequent offers of the delicious bread to go with them make a meal in themselves. I've had a couple of the lamb dishes with almonds and they have been so tender and flavorful. The Moroccan seafood is wonderful too. On the weekends, there's a bellydancer! Seating is comfortable at low tables and couches."

  • "The food was excellent with large portions. We ordered the (1) Chicken with Honey and Prunes and (2) Lamb with Lemon and Olives. Both dishes were full of flavor and did not disappoint. The belly dancer was a nice touch, but interesting to see little children tipping her with $1 bills by stuffing them in her skirt. My only regret was not bringing cash to tip the dancer. Most people brought their own wine to be served at dinner."

  • "Went here on a Tuesday, not sure if it was the weekday but service was extremely slow. El Mansour is a Moroccan restaurant that is at the outskirts of the Richmond district. If you are not looking for this place, you can easily pass it up as the outside looks like a regular apartment building. The menu is simple once understood, it is a pre fixe menu, all you have to do is choose your entree. All come with soup, salad appetizer and entree and dessert. The food was tasty, interesting to see rabbit on the menu, gamy but seasoned well. As for service it was nice but slow."

  • "For something different and fun, great place to celebrate our friends' birthdays with a little trip to Moracco right in the middle of SF. Belly dancer was entertaining and livened up the atmosphere and festivities."

  • "Here are the "highlights" of our dining experience: 1) No host station/host - upon entering the restaurant, we stood awkwardly for almost 5 minutes, while the servers completely ignored us. Finally, had to walk through the restaurant into the kitchen and ask if someone could help us. 2) Ambiance: Poor - the restaurant feels like the inside of a cheap circus tent. 3) Menu: Very small, but still confusing. And the server wasn't much of a help either. 4) Food: Worst part of the entire experience - completely bland and unimaginative. 5) Service: Poor - had to repeatedly ask for silverware and salt/pepper/hot sauce. Do not understand how this restaurant can survive in SF, a mecca for foodies. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this place!"

  • "Thank you El Mansour for providing excellent food service and entertainment for my Birthday Dinner! We enjoyed the endlessly delicious dishes before the main course, great champagne entertainment and the main course was also very good. We kept increasing the number of people in the party and they readily accommodated us making it a very nice experience. The entertainment with the belly dancer really got us all going and the group joined in! Really awesome guys, thanks again."

  • "Intimate and comfortable, this place offers the unique Moroccon experience of great food, music, and belly dancing. The wait staff and maître d are very personable and add to the experience. It is a beautiful place and very entertaining. We were able to try foods we never had before. Great place to take a fun date or enjoy a night apart from ordinary dining."

  • "I have been to El Mansour many times over the years, and always enjoyed it. It is decorated to give the impression of being in a big Middle Eastern tent, the servers are dressed appropriately, and there is belly dancing (if you are not a fan, make an early reservation, since the belly dancing starts around 7:30). All entrees come with the same (lovely) appetizers, including a lentil soup, and a savory chicken pastry). Of the entrees I've tried, I favor the lamb with lemon and olives, and the chicken with honey and prunes. The wine list is just okay, so you may opt to bring your own, and pay the corkage fee."

  • "Ver small portions. Didn't really enjoy the food as i thought it was too salty. Owner + chefs are both not from morocco so you are not getting authentic Moroccan cuisine. We were waiting for the belly dancer to come out and she was an hour late so we had to leave unfortunately. AND My father in law got diarrhia that same night after we ATE there. I do not recommend this place."

  • "We LOVE El Mansour. I take my kids there twice a year - on their birthdays. All of the courses are amazing. The lentil soup, salad, the bread, and the pastille with chicken courses are all excellent. And our favorite entrees are the chicken & lamb with almonds, and the scallops & shrimp. All served with couscous and veggies. And of course sitting on cushions close to the floor and the belly dancer highlights the evening and makes it fun. They will offer forks, but don't take them. This Moroccan meal is made to eat with your fingers. :) (yes, they bring warm water and towels to wash your hands both before and after dinner)"

  • "With a prix fixe menu, belly dancing performance, wonderful service, and decor that makes you feel as if you've catapulted to Marrakech, this is a great spot for a celebration. The lentil soup and b'still are great. The chicken portion was huge but veered toward salty, though that might be because I ordered the one with preserved lemons, and preserved lemons have a tendency to be salty. You can tell lots of people come here for birthdays."

  • "I love the feeling of entering another culture. The service was superb, and except for the seafood dish, the food was also. I especially love the bastela. The seafood was listed as a specialty. The scallops were good, but the shrimp tasted frozen and the portion was much smaller than the delicious chicken dishes we had. It was okay, certainly, especially with all the other parts to the meal, the fabulous bread, bastela, the mint tea ritual and the dessert, but I am making note of it here. They have good belly dancers and it is a very delightful restaurant, right near the entrance to the Palace of the Legion of Honor, if you plan to go there."

  • "This is my second visit to El Mansour and it will not be my last. My wife had never been there and when we walked in the door she was quite surprised. It feels like you've left the Richmond. The food was very good with a great mix of flavors. The dancer was good and very engaging. She capped off a fun evening out."

  • "When we see the dramatic, blue and white tiled entrance to El Mansour, we know we've come to the right place to celebrate our mutual friend's birthday. The maitre d' immediately established the ambiance with his warm welcome. We had two basic servers, and they both added to El Mansour's lore with their smiles, and masterful service. Remember when restaurant staff took pride in their work? The menu was a little difficult to decipher, but with some help we ordered a great multi-course meal. The spicy lentil soup was my favorite. We all enjoyed the tender lamb, the pungent sauce on the fish, and the mint tea. The lovely belly dancer brought joy, and excitement. A 'Happy Birthday' stenciled in cocoa on a platter of phyllo pastries-Nice!"

  • "Having recently developed a love for Moroccan recipes at home and yet never having gone for a "traditional" meal somewhere, I was eager to check out a true tagine. Reviews directed us to El Mansour, which was an interesting experience... Though we could have done without the belly dancer and with a bit more space for our party of four (tight seating), the food was delicious. Particularly notable were the lentil soup (wow!!) and couscous dishes. I have yet to get my at-home concoctions to match these. We ordered the chicken with vegetables and the lamb with lemon, both good, and both seemingly similar to at-home efforts, which was both reassuring and maybe a little disappointing. However, we readily devoured everything!"

  • "We had been to El Mansour before and just loved the experience so back we went. We were not disappointed. First, they were very accommodating when we were running late and requested a later reservation. The food, on the whole, was as we remembered--just delicious. The lentil soup was excellent as was the salad. The lamb was incredible, flavorful, melt in your mouth good. To be honest, the sea bass was just okay. Didn't care for the sauce and it didn't come with any vegetables as the other dishes did. Nonetheless, the service at this restaurant was outstanding. We didn't have to ask for anything. Loved the whole vibe. Thank you El Mansour for helping us make our special celebration one we will always remember."

  • "El Mansour provides a taste of Morocco, hidden in the outer avenues on Clement Street. We went to El Mansour based on positive reviews by others, and our expectations were met or exceeded at every turn. The food was delicious, whether it was the lentil bean soup, or the salad, or the chicken and lamb kabab. The setting is an open room which leads to an open communal feel - and then the belly dancer came out, and eventually she enticed some of the diners to dance with her. There were several birthday groups the night we were there, and there were a couple of families with children, and everyone seemed very comfortable and happy to be there."

  • "Our group has a great time. We had a middle eastern person with us and she also agreed that the food was pretty good. You sit on couches with a low table. We ordered the sample platter to taste a variety and everything was great. the only thing that seemed missing was the pita bread! The belly dancer was okay, but it did add the the excitement of the experience. The mint tea was awesome and a great way to close dinner."

  • "We had a fun evening and arrived with great anticipation, everything pointed to a good time. Great atmosphere, surroundings and loud buzz. This is not for a quiet romantic tryst. The dancing was fun and involved the audience. The biggest disappointment was the main course - We both had lamb served in two ways. mine was lamb with aubergine (egg plant). couldn't finish as eggplant (2 large slices) were too oily and the shank of lamb although fall off the bone tender was tasteless. My husband's was the same. This is such a shame as the other courses were as expected from Moroccan cuisine aromatic and full of flavour."
