  • "It seems El Gaucho depends on their reputation as being an upscale Steak House, rather than being an upscale Steak House. Thankfully we had been given Gift Cards that helped pay for this lavish overpriced meal in a restaurant in the basement of an old Tacoma building. It started with the POOR parking availability (cars parked in alley's, gravel parking lots....etc....pathetic for a place that ended up costing us $171.00 AFTER a $50 gift certificate......drink costs are unbelievable.....$12 for a plate of CORN???? You guys are real proud of your food now if only the quality lived up to the prices..... I have eaten at many high end steakhouses and was looking forward to my first visit to El Gaucho, needless to say it ranks among the lowest......Daniels, Anthony's all have provided better Food, Service and Ambiance than El Gaucho......judging by the emptiness of the restaurant when we left maybe this is a sign for El Gaucho to adjust their business plan?????"

  • "We frequent all of the El Gaucho restaurants, but this one is by far the best. Great service and a great experience is always expected and achieved at all the EG's, but the embiance in this location is just amazing, so it sets it apart from the others. If you are ever in Tacoma and looking for an amazing dining experience, go here. Tip: Before a concert at the Dome you can park here, eat, drink, and walk (about 15 minutes) to the Dome. Easy access out of the city after the concert...missing the terrible traffic."

  • "Took my wife there for our anniversary. The food was amazing. My wife and I had steak and lobster, and they steak may have been the best steak that I have ever tasted. Our server Anne Maria was fantastic, she explained the menu, offered suggestions and never left us waiting to speak with her. She also offered to take a picture of us so we could capture he night. Loved this place, will definitely return."

Instead of feeling like a stuffy old money restaurant it is now warm, sociable, friendly. I didn't feel like Julia Roberts n Pretty Woman. What a nice change. A little pricey if you do the full 4 courses, but portions are so generous I don't think you need to, unless you wanna be rolled home. Highly recommended for extra special occasions. Amazing server and great table side shows, never change the Diablo appetizer, it set an amazing expectation that the beef fillet and dessert delivered on perfectly."

  • "Party of 3 B'day dinner. NO to Tenderloin Brochette. Server accidently chucked tomato off top of skewer; landed on serve cart. Chunk of meat flipped up/off sword, rolled onto floor. Server burned trying to 'right' flaming sword/flying meat. The meat couldn't be cut w/steak knife; stretched like elastic. Waiter agreed "that isn't right". Meat replaced w/good steak, but by then, guest of honor had to dine alone. Tab W/tip, $300.- $350. $50. discount for b'days for 'club' members - nice.. BUT, wd rather have NO discount/fabulous experience. EG says they will allow $35. on future visit, available UPON REQUEST. So, OK, I'm not looking for free handouts; thanks but no thanks. W/other fine dining options, won't come begging for $35 (;"

  • "We were seated at a nice table complete with a birthday card and rose petals. What a great touch and a very classy act from the staff. The staff also was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food presentation was fantastic from table side salad to flaming brochettes. Steak and brochettes were cooked perfectly. Best dinning experience in the Pacific Northwest, I feel. Not to the point where we had to yell at each other. But did have to lean in to hear what was being said. The scalloped potatoes were wonderful! Wine suggestion was perfect with dinner."

  • "My husband and I, and another couple came here for a night out and boy were we blown away at how tender, moist, and perfectly cooked our tenderloin steaks were. The sides consisted of baked potatoes, asparagus, broiled tomatoes, and mushrooms. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the presentation was wonderful. The servers dress your potatoes with all the fixings, prepare a special sauce and cut your piece of meat right in front of you. The service was wonderful, and there is really nothing bad that I can say other than the prices are pretty steep, and our bill was right around $300 for 4 people."

The service was excellent, friendly and helpful with suggestions. The menus is the standard El Gaucho menu so there is some lack of excitement in trying some new entrees.   • "I would like to start out by saying the atmosphere and service was amazing!!! However, I was a little disappointed at the food especially at the prices they charge. When ordering a $40-$75 steak you would expect it to come out prepared the way you asked and to be amazing. It was not! Luckly I had ordered a wedge salad (good) and scalloped potatoes (good) otherwise I would have left hungry. I think if I ever go back I will probably do salad and a shareable only."

  • "The shrimp in the shrimp salad tasted metallic. They were inedible. I'm sure they were not fresh. The halibut was nice, as was the iceberg salad. Drinks are very overpriced. Service staff was friendly but not very knowledgable and their timing needs improvement. The Tacoma El Gaucho does not measure up to the Seattle standard. For the considerable expense, I expect a memorable experience. It didn't happen. I'll drive to Seattle if I want another El Gaucho experience."

He was very informative and helpful. It was our anniversary and there was a hand written card on our table along with rose petals. At then end of the night they bring you a fruit/cheese platter that is complimentary. What more could you ask for?"
