"Great food great atmosphere. My only recommendation: it's dark in there and every time someone opens the door it really interupts the mood. Have some sort of shield as to not disturb the ambiance.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to El Gaucho. Our server and all the staff were very attentive but not intrusive. Although the first impression coming from the outside is dark, as eyes adjusted it was warm, romantic and cheery. The live music was excellent on our visit and the overall aural ambiance was just right for being able to hear our own conversation easily while at the same time neither feeling isolated nor like we could hear anyone else's words. The food was excellent as expected, the wine steward easy to talk to and knowledgeable."

"First time at El Gaucho in Tacoma. Have been to the Seattle restaurant a few times but the Tacoma restaurant is a real gem. The service was absolutely spot on, the grilled Halibut was absolutely perfect, and Ted did a great job of taking care of us.

Living in south king county I never seem to remember Tacoma when thinking of where to go. Went this time as we were going to a show at the Tacoma Dome and the restaurant is within easy walking distance. Parked at the dome and walked to/from so I had good parking for the event. That said, I will be back just to go to dinner vs. going into Seattle."

"Fantastic food and service! This is the best place in Tacoma for a nice, relaxing dinner. And I don't mean it's nice "for Tacoma". It's a great resturaunt in Tacoma, but would be a top stop wherever located."

"My husband and I went to El Gaucho for our Anniversary, we made reservations for a Sunday night at 6 PM, we had quite some trouble finding parking. We didn't get seated in a preferable private spot, but sort of middle of the room. Service was slow at first but picked up later. Wonderful food, hubby had steak,I had king salmon (best darn salmon I honestly ever had, tender not dry at all), we had salad, aperitifs, wine and desert. It was wonderful. Service a bit slow at times but I never felt rushed either which was great. Nice, old-Havannah atmosphere but modernized, I loved it. We will go again for special occasions."

"Went there for Valentines Day. Even thought they were extremely busy the service was excellent. I ordered the baseball cut to sirloin, excellent cut of meat ordered medium rare. Was a tad undercooked towards the middle. Otherwise food was delicious ."

"You enter the old building expecting it to be small and stuffy but it surprises you with a grand staircase that pours into the open floor plan a piano sits stoically in the corner surrounded by an oak wine rack that reaches the 40 feet to the ceiling. White table cloth with all the ambiance thats implied and the price to match. The food was remarkable cooked with obviouse skill and presented as the focal point of the experience. The service was lacking and the wait staff seemed lazy. I had to get up to go pay my bill because I never saw my waitress. That's not supposed to happen at a meal that is over $125 per person. If they get better employees I will spend some time entertaining family and business partners there."
