Diner Reviews
  • "The good: Still the best steak around, wine list was great, crab cakes were amazing and Steak Tartare!! The Change: The Cigar room is now a dining area, we used to come in and really enjoy the appetisers in there roughly an hour before dinner, now it's not available. The could have been a little better: Waiter was not the best, seemed thin between the two or three tables he had (really never experienced that before??) Service was slow, really slow in the begining. The Hostesses were quite snooty irritated that we showed up early and unwilling to even have a conversation about some options (yes, we were early and went down the street to a local bar for an hour, normally we'd have gone to the Cigar room) oh well it was cheaper and worked for us. Overall: The food wins out for me this trip, normally always does, BUT (yes big BUT) if the service is any less than what we experienced this trip, I'd have to put this with junkie places like The Met! I'd like to see those enwaveringly friendly Hostesses not so full of themselves that they are eager to help! (I give two nuggets of nothing about how they look, i am here for the food) Looking forward to a waiter of old, where they need not a pad of paper to take the orders from the table; i'll mention Leon (i think, that was a LONGGG TIME AGO) but we have had great waiter since, just need to see it again. WE WILL BE BACK hungry for more and a little better service!"

  • "Great Dinning experience. Food was very tasty, very generous portions. Staff was very attentive and friendly from the time you entered to the servers. Wine was affordable and Wicked shrimp to die for. loved the complementary fruit, cheese and nuts platter. Thank you guys you made our special day memorable. definitely go back again for a fantastic steak dinner."

  • "Staff accommodates special requests effortlessly. Steaks were of coarse what we ordered and they were great. Sides were a great compliment as well. And glad to see the baked potato is still there as many have dropped it but it was great."

  • "Gaucho's is as much about the experience as it is about the food. Attentive servers, table side preparations and fantastic steak."

  • "We come to El Gaucho for birthdays every year and have always has great service. This experience last Saturday was horrible! There were 6 of us and we were seated at 7:00 and didn't get out until 10:30 it took 1 1/2 hour to get a drink. Service was so poor and I did complain to our waiter but he just has excuses. We were meeting friends at 10:00 at another bar but we were so late they had to leave. Dinner was almost $1,000 and we didn't mind the price because the food is so good but the bad service might keep us from returning for awhile"

  • "Of the many choices of steak houses in Seattle this one has a charm that is warm and greeting, from staff that is very friendly and receives past customers by name to awesome food and wine lists."

  • "Food was good, however our server was a little miffed about the restaurant week crowd. Made us feel a bit uncomfortable, as the only time some people can afford El Gaucho is during restaurant week. They should make a point of making all feel welcome. However, in the middle of our dinner we had a different server, who was super kind and accommodating. The dinner menu for restaurant week was well thought out and the meat was incredible."

  • "We were here for Seattle Restaurant Week. Even though it was very busy because of this, our server was awesome. The food was fantastic. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant especially their steak. I regularly dine out but somehow haven’t dined at El Gaucho before. The interior of the building was little bit outdated, but still well maintained and fit for a night out. For starter I ordered the kale salad which I enjoyed. As for entree I ordered the Filet Mignon, which was good but nothing special, the minus was that the outer part of the steak was burnt. I actually enjoyed the mushroom much more so than the steak. Lastly the desert bread pudding was just amazingly delicious. I must say this was the highlight of the meal."

  • "Went here to celebrate a birthday dinner and it was well worth it. It is spendy so not an every day dining option but for a special occasion it is worth saving up for. The service is exceptional. They are friendly and knowledgeable without hovering or being obtrusive. The food was incredible. A small menu but that just means they have perfected those few items. Made for an incredibly memorable night out."

  • "We went for Restaurant week 2014. The ambiance is intimate and romantic with very dim lights - to the point of them giving you mini flashlights to view the menu. I ordered the truffle soup, filet mignon, and bread pudding. Everything was excellent. The truffle soup was lighter than I expected in a good way, the filet mignon was cooked perfectly and the sauce underneath was scrumptious. For dark chocolate lovers, their chocolate dessert is absolutely decadent. I would come back, but only for very special occasions as the regular prices are quite high."

  • "We had an amazing time in the bar top and your food was AMAZING BUT Our server Gina was not the type of server I thought we would have in a very nice restaurant. I am a manager at a high end restaurant and my boyfriend is a chef in another so we love food and a good service but our server was the Cherry on top we didn't want. We felt like we were sterio typed by her as soon as we said we wanted to do the restaurant week menu since it was our first time there and we wanted to be able to try a little bit of everything. She was short, no effort, felt like she wanted us turned over, and didn't appreciate us in her section at all. I was not happy with her but your food and ambiance of the restaurant was amazing!"

  • "Not every high end steak house embraces restaurant week and the coupon clippers (like me) that come out in droves; but El Gaucho still pulled out ALL the stops. Menu selection was top shelf: food = beyond delicious; service (Rebecca) = exceptional, helpful and friendly; overall = this rich experience made us want to come back again soon because now we know it's well worth the asking price."

  • "Valet parking was great! We weren't rushed, in fact waited quite awhile for main course. Very noisy and hard to talk, but it was restaurant week."

  • "As a server myself at a fine dining restaurant I was very impressed. I loved the coffee service in particular. We had a very great server, the ambience is absolutely romantic. The mushroom truffle soup was amazing, and we also had the Filet, Pork Tenderloin and Chocolate Grenache for dessert. I enjoyed having the option for a 9oz pour of wine. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, I will definitely be back to try more wonderful food and drink!"

  • "We went to El Gaucho for our ten year anniversary. The restaurant was very nice with a warm, charming feel. The waitstaff were pleasant and very attentive. Sadly, the food was disappointing. I ordered the grass fead filet mignon to be cooked to medium rare. A majority of it was medium to medium well. My wife ordered the chicken, which she enjoyed and took her leftovers home. However, when she opened the container at home (where you can actually see what's in front of you), a large portion of the chicken was still pink. So the steak I wanted to be undercooked was overcooked and the chicken that should always be fully cooked was not. Despite the romantic atmosphere, the overall experience was overshadowed by the disappointing food."

  • "Food was good after getting the correct meal. I was brought the wrong dish and my husband had finished his prior to me getting mine. The waiter did apologize, however that was that. It is awkward eating your meals at different times."

  • "Dinner choices were great and service was outstanding. Her recommendations and advice were perfect. We all had a lovely evening and would definitely return recommend this restaurant to our friends and family. I would definitely advise valet parking. It's worth the cost. There was a piano player who played music suited to this restaurant. It was my first visit since dining at their previous location for many years."

  • "We went for restaurant week expecting it to be nice like we have heard from others, we couldn't have been prepared though for the amazing dishes and excellent staff we had throughout the night. Enjoyed some of the best food we have ever eaten and all in a timely manner and friendly waiters. 10/10"

  • "Made a reservation for 5pm. Was the first one in for dinner service on a Wedneaday night during Seattle's Restaurant Week. Service was friendly and portions were good-sized even for the $30 deal - we left stuffed! This will be among my list of special occasion eateries, along with The Met and Daniel's Broiler."

  • "El Gaucho has always been a place to go for a special occasion, however, we were disappointed at the food and ambiance. We ordered chateaubriand (medium rare) and it was not prepared at tableside and the quality of meat was not what we've had before (tough). The baked potato was definitely different. One of our guests ordered a well done steak and it was more medium rare. Since you no longer have the curved booths, the noise level is definitely higher as we are all lined up with no buffer. The quality of the food surprised us the most as we did not feel we were eating at the El Gaucho we knew in the past."
