Diner Reviews
  • "Took my wife to dinner, had an excellent experience. Wait staff and food were outstanding. Loved the wine. Table side Caesar salad is a must!"

  • "We celebrated my husband's 50th at El Gaucho with our adult children. As usual, the service, food, and atmosphere was outstanding. Our waiter was exceptional as well as the rest of the staff."

  • "We always have a great experience at all of the El Gaucho locations. We went with our friends here this last weekend a because they wanted to see what it was like and it was their anniversary. They enjoyed it immensely. I do have to say that my wife and I always were treated with a dessert compliments of the house on our anniversary, and had told our friends that. Unfortunately, they were not treated to the same special as we have been for the last three anniversaries, but I had to make good and paid for their dessert myself. Still, El Gaucho is a place that I will always go back to for the food, service and ambiance."

  • "We enjoyed the chateaubriand and lobster for dinner. It was marvelous - everything prepared to perfection. That is no surprise though, it's what I've come to expect when dining at El Gaucho."

  • "I have been to El Gaucho many times and I wanted to share it with my mom and it once again it was excellent! Food was great and the staff was very accommodating. We will be coming back soon!"

  • "The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. The restaurant serves local items including heirloom tomatoes and wild caught fish. The steaks were tasty according to my dining companions. I would recommend the restaurant highly."

  • "I always look forward to dining at El Gaucho - great food, elegant atmosphere, and wonderful service!"

  • "An annual pilgrimage to El Gaucho remains high on any local resident's "must eat" list, if only for the impeccable service, tender steaks, and tableside Caesar salad. No blenders will interrupt your dinner; no costumed wait staff will sing a happy birthday ditty to you or other cutomers. What you will find is a quintessential fine steak dining experience, at a price, but well worth it. You leave feeling like royalty, and Caesar salad in other restaurants will always be a disappointment after El Gaucho."

  • "I love the rose petals on the table, the card and the fruit tray at the end of the dinner. The music was great, just kinda stayed in the background, not overwhelming the private dinner conversation. Love it."

  • "This is our favorite spit! This restaurant is just perfect for every occasion. We were celebrating my birthday. We love to come to this place. This is our third time here. Our server was great!!! Thank you El Gaucho."

  • "We arrived to a "Happy Anniversary" card on our table with a thoughtful message and signed by the staff. We were waited on conscientiously but no intrusively. The wine list was amazing and they were very thorough and patient in answering our questions. The before dinner drink was delicious and the food was AMAZING, everything cooked to perfection. This was our first visit, but we will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Service was amazing and very accommodating. We had no issues with our visit and our dinner was super yummy!! Will totally go back and eat here again."

  • "Food was cold and had no taste. Very pricey for a bad meal"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "And has always in the past been worthy of the price ticket. This was a fathers day dinner with reservations made well in advance. The hostest sat seated us in a very small and over flow room in a corner. Next to a table of a large noisey group. Not sure why you would place a quiet couple in such a dynamic. The menu was missing our favorite... the porter house. The bone in NY selected was tough and grissly. Overall the experience was dissapointing and you really feel it when the tab arrives. I am not sure if I will return."

  • "Not only was the entree, filet mignon superb, the salad and après dinner cheese and fruit platter were divine. Put this on you list if you want an impressive dinner spot. It is also elegant and very romantic!"

  • "Very good food and service - traditional steak and fish place - excellent wine list. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed celebrating my wife's dinner this past Saturday night. Awesome experience!"

  • "The food was awesome and our waiter was fantastic. A great experience!"

  • "First, we made reservations. We got seated in the bar (not the dining area which is where I would assume the reservations are for). There was loud music playing and a huge party next to us. We couldn't talk to our party due to the overwhelming noise. The service was sub-par. It took for ever to get a drink. Sitting in the bar, we could see the drinks sitting on the counter for about 10 minutes before they are finally brought to our table. The server was awkward. The maître d was extremely awkward and was not fit for the position. She didn't know their own drink menu. We ordered two sides of spinach which was spicy (not listed that way on the menu), and the seafood pasta was also spicy (not listed on menu). Mortons/Ruth Chris is better."

  • "We celebrate almost all special occasions here and love to just come for a spectacular dinner. Never disappointed! Top quality. Join the Reveler's Club, if you haven't. You earn points for your dining and get special offers on your birthday and anniversary. The food is some of the best in town."

  • "My husband and I have celebrated our wedding anniversary at El Gaucho every year. The ambiance, the service and friendly wait staff, the food, and just a feeling of romance makes our anniversary special every year. The food is cooked perfectly to order and everything is so fresh and delicious. Makes our special day even more enjoyable"

  • "We can say nothing but good things about our experience at el Gaucho. As they knew we were celebrating a special occasion, they reserved a booth for my husband and I and sprinkled the table cloth with rose petals. The service was outstanding and the food was mouth-watering. Excellent wine recommendation as well! Table-side preparations of caesar salad and bananas foster were amazing. We savored every bite of steak. They honored our anniversary with a complimentary dessert as well. We live across the country from this fine establishment, but we will definitely be back the next time we are in Portland or Seattle! Thank you!"

  • "We had a fabulous time! The staff couldn't have been more gracious and enjoyable. The food as always was perfect! It is always the best place for my family to celebrate any occasion. We love it and will be back next month!"

  • "We have dined at El Gaucho many times. It is our go-to special occasion restaurant. This most recent dinner was perfect in every way, from the Caesar salad, to the filets & side dishes, to the service and the ambience."

  • "Very friendly service, two burly bouncers opened doors for us, actually found that strange, was this a strip club? Great menu, excellent food, table side preparation for salads and potatoes. Steaks outstanding along with fish. Great touch with a fruit, nut, fig and cheese plate at end of meal. Will definitely come back."

  • "The people at El Gaucho could not have been more hospitable nor the food any better! I noted in my online reservation that it was our anniversary and there were rose petals on our table! A live guitar duet added to the perfect mood. Try the Fenway martini -- wonderful! "

  • "We've been to El Gaucho several times and we have always had excellent food and service. Unfortunately this last visit the food was a bit off. My wife had ordered a filet and asked for it medium plus, I had ordered a NY and wanted it medium rare. The steaks were cooked incorrectly and my wife's steak was medium rare at best, mine was medium well and a little charred on the outside. After the steaks were dropped off it took about 10 minutes or so until our server came back to check and see how it was cooked. They tossed my wife's steak back on and on the second time back it was still under cooked and now charred. I think it was an off night we were hoping the steaks would have been as good as they usually are. Hopefully next time! "

  • "It was great. They had flower pedals at the table along with a signed card for my wife. It was a great evening and my wife enjoyed it very much"

  • "We reserved a table for two at El Gaucho for pre-opera meal while visiting the city from the South Coast. Wonderful greeting and service. The steak was very well prepared and the risotto was amazing... Chose a reasonably priced (restaurant price) bottle that was great with the red meat. Overall a great experience and a lovely meal! "

  • "This was my second time dining. Service...cannot say enough good things. Great atmosphere. I made a disappointing choice in my steak, the baseball sirloin. Had the rib chop previously which was unbelievably flavorful. All of the food that passed by looked great. Would definitely come back....this time with the ribeye!"

  • "It had been at least 5 years since our last visit to El Gaucho and our return trip was wonderful. The escargot were big and tasty, the Caesar salad was yummy, and our filet mignon (Oscar style) was perfection. If I could afford it, I'd eat there every weekend..."

  • "I always love el gaucho but last Friday service was great, atmosphere was great food wasn't Too much salt, too greasy sauce. My stomach couldn't take it. "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "Considering the price tag of $250 for two guys who met to have a couple (4 total between us), steak, and catch up on life, the price was beyond ridiculous considering how ordinary the steak was. Steaks at Morton's are far better."
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "I was looking forward to this dinner for 3 months and when it arrived I was very excited. However, I was a bit disappointed. The Oysters Rockefeller was over cooked, the Cesar Salad was much to large and my asparagus was over done. I was very impressed with the service. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, as was every one of the restaurant personnel we came in contact with. We were made to feel like the most important people in the restaurant that night. I will return for a second try and am hoping for a better experience."

  • "We got just what we expected from this well-known eatery - great steaks and service. Although the temperature of our steaks were perfect the temperature in the room was very warm in our opinion. Maybe just the change of seasons????"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "I had the steak and my husband ordered the salmon special. We were both very happy with our meals. The Mississippi mud pie was the best dessert I ever had!"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "Meal was great, service was great but my date and I had to yell across the table to hear each other. If I'm going to pay $300 for dinner for two, I expect an environment that doesn't remind me of McDonalds."

  • "We have dined at this restaurant for many years and have NEVER been disappointed. Love, love, love the wicked shrimp!!"
