  • A true representation of a great steak house

Have had a variety of experiences with the various local and chain steak houses. This one has everything - the food, the atmosphere, the service and the extra little somethings. I've only had comparable steaks at The Brooklyn downtown, but they can't match the ambiance or the intangibles (the valet leaving a small pouch of two cookies in the car for us really was above and beyond!) at El Gaucho. We sampled the Chateaubriand, A NY strip (with black truffle butter) and a filet. All were perfectly done to order. The Chateaubriand was absolutely perfect. Table-side Ceasar salad was both a great performance and a wonderfully fresh alternative to the usual versions elsewhere. Finally, the menu is rife with "original" items like home made tartar sauce served with the fried oysters (good enough to eat with a spoon), and to start, a signature cocktail "Gaucho Cosmos" which is excellent and served perfectly chilled. Overall, a fantastic venue to entertain, impress, or just pamper yourself!

Great wait staff. Ambiance is warm but sophisticated. Live piano music terrific. Tenderloin medallion appetizer was so tasty. Hubby's peppercorn new york steak was too notch and I thoroughly enjoyed my oven crisped chicken on a bed of sweet corn and mushroom ragout. The chocolate bourbon cake for dessert made the perfect end to a fabulous dining experience.

We went to El Gaucho for my husbands birthday and had a party of 6. This was our first time there, but the others we were with have been there many times before. Although the food was very good, there were so many servers that things were getting missed. I think each of them thought the other was doing it! They forgot 1 persons salad, my salad was made wrong, I wasn't given silverware and another persons coffee took over 25 minutes to get. When I made the reservation, I specifically said we were celebrating my husbands birthday and not one of servers even said "happy birthday." There was a very well-known husband and wife at the table next to us, so I'm not sure if they were distracted by that or not, but I expect a little more from such a nice restaurant. I would suggest this restaurant for a more intimate meal, not for groups.

We ordered their $95 4 course meal and was surprised to discover the steak to be overly seasoned and therefore salty. The saltiness of the meat spoiled the steak. I was disappointed as I've had a wonderful El Gaucho experience many years ago in Seattle. The table service was great and what I expect for this quality of restaurant.

Food and service was absolute fabulous. All four of us ordered something different - and everything was prepared to perfection. And ... the dessert was the lightest 'air-i-est' dessert I have ever had. May need to skip the entree next time and head straight to dessert.

My husband and I were greeted very warmly and enjoyed a beautiful anniversary dinner at Bellevue El Gaucho. The service was impeccable, and the food fabulous as always. We shared a crab and prawn cocktail, I enjoyed a rib eye steak, my husband, an amazing lobster tail and shared the El Gaucho special baked potato. I loved my two special El Gaucho Manhattans and my husband, his two Mai Tai's. We love dining at El Gaucho and will definitely return for our next anniversary if not sooner. Thank you again to all the wait staff that was so friendly and welcoming.

Met for dinner with friends on a Sunday night and ended up spending more time waiting, pouring are own wine, and asking staff to move the dinner along. I would not expect that for a table spending over $700 for a nice meal out in Bellevue. Very disappointed. We also had one member of our party with Celiacs disease and the options for gluten free are few and far between... I was also surprised at the lack of flexibility with menu options to meet her needs at such an upscale restaurant. Unfortunately, I will not be going back, despite the delicious food!

The service seemed "off". Our waiter never checked on us and we had to flag him down when we needed/wanted something. We were there for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. The food was good but they seemed to have trouble keeping the food replenished. The hostess also told us they "ran out of menus but it's basically just the buffet"...how does a place like El Gaucho run out of menus?? I would almost guess that they were understaffed that day. I would definitely give it another shot because I've dined here before and have had good experiences so will just chalk it up to it being an "off" day for them. Luckily the food itself is worth coming back for.

The waiter..Manny was extremely rude especially to my husband. We spent more than $300.00 on a "romantic" dinner but were treated like second class citizens compared to the "Morgans" who Manny told us were very rich patrons..and it was obvious his preferential service. I worked in an exclusive steakhouse in Honolulu for 8 years and I know how to treat all customers..not preferentially as did Manny to us...there were many more examples of his subversive rude behavior which I am happy to expand upon if asked. Because of him..we likely will not be back and it was our first dining experience with you..we normally dine at Jack Howie and the Metropolitan for good steaks.

I cannot speak highly enough of El Gaucho. We have been going there for years...first in Seattle and now in Bellevue (which is closer to home). We have gone to Ruth Chris and John Howie...they do not even deserve to wash El Gaucho's dishes. This restaurant is excellent in every way, but especially the service. We were made to feel comfortable and important from the moment we arrived by everyone. The food is truly the best in the Northwest. We eat out often, but when we want a steak there is nothing better than El Gaucho.

We went with another couple to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. I didn’t tell them when I made the reservation that it was out anniversary so they were not aware. They sat us at a table in front of the piano player but it was a little hard to hear so we asked if we could be moved to another table. They were very accommodating and when they did move us the table had rose petals on it and a card signed by the staff that said Happy Anniversary. The services was great and the food was amazing, we were full and happy when we left and we will make this a tradition going forward. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience with incredible food.

Everything we ate was superb. The steaks were excellent. We've eaten at other steak places (Daniels, Ruth Chris, Mortons) before but the meats at El Gaucho are obviously better in many ways. I rated good in the service only because our waiter was busy with a larger table. Before they arrived he was very attentive but I felt he just got busy and was not able to offer his full attention to us. I wished some of the patrons dressed up a little more especially for dinner. A few people were wearing Seahawks jersey since the game had finished. So I guess it's a casual dining experience?? But we absolutely loved our meal and can't wait to go back again.

  • Hunter brunch disappointment
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 9/14/2014
For an upscale restaurant, hunters brunch was mediocre. Meats? Sirloin steak, pork belly, fried chicken strips, sausage gravey and undercooked bacon. Hard yolk eggs Benedict tarts - ate crust, left egg and yucky filler. Egg stratta ... Really?? Stratta is a bread filler egg dish, served when needing to stretch the budget. Dried up French toast, cold salads were dismal. Didn't partake of dessert table - mini tart, mini creme brûlée, mini strudel, mousse in cup ... Woohoo what a display! Best dishes... Biscuits and gravey and Mac and cheese. Local diner would have been better choice than this "hunters brunch". The birthday brunch was a total disappointment. Will stick with the other bountiful high quality brunches around Seattle.
