Diner Reviews
  • "The service was excellent... Our table was exactly what I requested with a beautiful view and the dinner was delicious."

  • "The El Encanto is located at the top of the Santa Barbara hills, so the view is amazing. We sat on the patio and could see all the way to the Channel Islands. The only thing better than the view was the food. Starters: crab cake and hamachi sashimi. Both beautifully presented and delicious. Next: tomato and burrata salad. Also great. For entrees, I had the juicy and flavorful bone-in rib eye and my wife had the filet. Mine was so tender I barely needed my knife. The sides were equally amazing: creamed jalapeno corn, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. Dessert: creme brulee and chocolate cake. Good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Better were the treats they brought as an anniversary gift: macaroons, choc. strawberries, choc. bark, etc."

  • "The restaurant is beautifully appointed with a wonderful view of Santa Barbara and the ocean The menu was eclectic with something any foodie would enjoy. Not inexpensive but worth the price. The service was very pleasant but the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed so our entrees took a long time to arrive. But we were treated to a glass of wine for each of the four of us, and the evening was so lovely, it really wasn't a problem."

  • "The food and service were great. Mauricio was gracious and very good. We had a marvelous birthday lunch, so special. The property is beautiful, we enjoyed our stroll around th grounds. What a pretty place!"

  • "The food and presentation was outstanding. And the service was just right. The views are superb. What a delightful spot. The prices are rather high, though--especially the wine selections."

  • "3 of us had the American Bento lunch and we all agreed it was delicious. The steak was perfectly medium rare (as we had requested), and the two salads tasty. The box even included dessert. The portion sizes were small, but just right, considering there were 4 different items in the box (5 if you count the mashed potatoes under the steak)."

  • "We had a wonderful evening at the Dining Room at El Encanto. We were looking for something a little different to wrap up our trip to Santa Barbara, and the Dining Room at El Encanto did not disappoint. The service was extremely attentive (maybe overly attentive), the food was fantastic - we really enjoyed the short ribs sous vide and the delicious desserts. The view and the ambiance were very unique and a must for anyone looking for a special occasion restaurant or a special showcase of Santa Barbara."

  • "The restaurant was almost perfect except for the service. It took forever to take our drink orders. We were a party of six and when our main coarses were brought out one was missing and the order was never turned in. By the time we slowly finished our food and our plates were taken away our female guest finally got hers. It really didn't seem to matter to the staff. Don't know which staff member it was came by apologized with a bad joke as we all watched our guest finish her food. They should have offered her a dessert on the house or something, but nothing. Also, one of our waiters had a runny nose."

  • "They really made this into one of my favorite spots in SB. The view and ambiance have no match....overlooking the city and the nice new deck. I liked the old restaurant but they really opened it up and fixed many of the things that were lacking before. The menu is limited, but everything I have tried has been excellent."

  • "Overpriced but the location is stellar. Go for sunset, sit near a heater and watch the stars come out. Food is good but not extraordinary. You're paying for the view."

  • "We used to eat at the old El Encanto before it was rebuilt, and this was our first time back. It was our niece's birthday and we wanted to do something special, and we certainly made the right choice. The covered outdoor setting with a view of Santa Barbara and the Pacific below couldn't have been nicer. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was unique and delicious, and the setting of the restaurant within the hotel was beautiful."

  • "My husband & I stayed there for the weekend and dined at the restaurant twice for lunch & dinner. We loved the foods and the services were outstanding. We had a lovely time there and will go back again."

  • "Hard to get to because of winding roads but service was great...good was wonderful and if the weather is nice you HAVE to sit out on the patio. The best views hands down!"

  • "A fantastic dining experience. The food was really great. Been dining up and down the coast and this is one of the best. "

  • "Great views food and service. Really appreciatedErin our wait person's recommendations."

  • "The El Encanto has always cultivated a reputation as a superior hotel with dining to match, both before and after its recent renovation. However, on this occasion, the overall experience did not match the image. Our food was good from a small, but imaginative, menu and the wine selection was extensive and interesting with selections from around the world. The big let down was the service, and I don't just mean the wait staff. I heard waiters apologizing to three tables around us - delays in bringing out food, unsure whether an item was actually available being two problems. Our own waiter, while attentive, provided inaccurate information on the drinks menu (causing a cocktail to be returned). The dining room needs to try harder."

  • "Beautiful ocean view, comfortable chairs, delicious food and good friends made for a lunch we didn't want to end. So we stayed almost two hours. I had the best salmon with roasted veggies I've ever had, very fresh. My husband had a huge pasta bowl and ate it all. Followed by an excellent cappuccino which is very hard to find in Santa Barbara. We sat in the dining room, not outside as it was a little chilly that day."

  • "From the moment we were greeted by the valet parking staff and Christopher, the Maitre D, to the last bite of a supreme dessert the entire experience was first class. Our waiter was attentive and the food was delicious. I had a perfectly cooked fillet mignon with fresh roasted asparagus and a delicious Pinot Noir from Mellville Winery. The starter, crab cake was one of the best I have ever tasted and the freshly made sorbet collection a perfect end to a great dining experience while we viewed the beautiful blue Pacific through an immaculately clean picture window. Do not let that chef get away! El Encanto has become my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara! "

  • "An absolute perfect way to celebrate our 30th Anniversary!"
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "Your site, your staff, the whole experience of having breakfast there was memorable. There was beauty, tranquility, elegance. Excellent service. I would like to return to enjoy the terrace at night, as well as the bar."

  • "We ate at this restaurant two evenings and the second evening the food was not as excellent as the first. However the view and ambiance is beyond compare and it is still a wonderful location for a celebration. "
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "Once again, the El Encanto reins as the premier elegant, quintessential Santa Barbara hotel."

  • "The service was painfully slow; some one did not show up for work, and they were surprised by the number of guests dining. Too bad, because it was a beautiful evening with a full moon. Our server, Eric, did a nice job trying to assuage the guests."

  • "Everything about this place was perfect. The view is the best I've ever seen. Service and food was outstanding. The wine list is great and the whole experience was great. I live in DC, but hope to go back to Santa Barbara just to eat here again."

  • "Fabulous view on a beautiful terrace. Special brunch was wonderful. "
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The food was was excellent and the ambiance of the outdoor dining deck is hard to beat. El Encanto also benefits from it's somewhat remote location away from the hustle and bustle of the waterfront and/or State Street. Unfortunately, the service is not up to the standards of the venue. The Dining Room Host, with his over the top Italian accent, seems out of place. The wait staff is trying hard but does not seem to be up to the standards of attentiveness and sophistication that one might expect from a place such as this. There is nothing wrong exactly, just a feeling that this is potentially a first class place with a minor league staff. Notewothy was the sea bass, and the Himachi appetizer"

  • "The renovated El Encanto's dining experience couldn't be better and it offers, without parallel, the best view of the American Riviera in town. The food is delicious (try the melt in the mouth sous vide short ribs) and there are plenty of heaters on the patio if the evening turns chill. We've been a couple of times at lunch and a couple at dinner since it reopened and we'll definitely be back~"

  • "My first visit since the restaurant reopened. We sat on the patio on a comfortable sofa--it was quiet and the view lovely. The food was good and the wine by the glass was excellent but VERY expensive."
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the terrace. Very warm welcome. Nice appetizers and main courses but quite salty and a bit one note regarding flavors. Lots of wait staff but only two actual waiters doubling as sommeliers which slowed the ordering and pace of the meal. Expensive but it is a very nice spot and well thought out in terms of decoration and comfort. "

  • "than ever!! We've been for several lunches with different amounts of people, 1 breakfast, and 4 or 5 private room events. The service is always lovely, the view unbeatable, but the food is also top notch! To be fair, I have only tried around 6 different items on the menu, but the Hawaiian Bento box is always a winner for lunch! It has a lovely chicken teriyaki,a yummy salad, a fabulous ahi tartare, and a dessert (which I try not to eat haha). You will be very happy that you went!"

  • "The patio was so nice, however we did hit one of the hottest evenings of the year. Great views and setting in the tree tops. A bit pricey for us to go regularly but great for special occasions."

  • "Went for lunch, had the time of my life with exceptional view, great food and exceptional service. Marco, Alfredo, Mauricio are great."

  • "From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the valets until you leave this lovely place, you will have find yourself exhaling, "Ahhhhh....". Mario and Alfredo could not have been more attentive to making sure that our group of 5 had everything we needed. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and the wine recommendations were spot on. We sampled each others choices which included the Angus Burger and Fries, a Cobb Salad, a Ahi Salad, the Greens and Grains salad with Chicken, and Fish and Chips. I would order any of them on a future visit. We enjoyed a bottle of 2012 Star Lane Sauvignon Blanc from Happy Canyon in Santa Barbara. The Floating Island dessert is light and delicious. A wonderful place to enchant guests from out of town. "

  • "We went to the Easter Sunday Brunch and LOVED everything put before us! The food was truly amazing! There was never a time that we had to look around for a waiter. They disappear quietly and magically reappear when you raise your empty glass or raise a fork or just look around as if you may still need something. Truly the waitstaff are at your beck and call and are super friendly, not stuffy what-so-ever. The atmosphere is easy and quiet without being too quiet. The restaurant has the most spectacular view of any restaurant in town - hands down! It is incredible! The experience was wonderful and was a total de-stresser. I cannot imagine anyone wouldn't fall in love with the food, the view and possibly each other all over again! ; )"

  • "Can't say enough about the service, food and atmosphere. Tucked up in the hills of Santa Barbara, the El Encanto dining room and hotel is among the best. Wonderful romantic get a way."
    Dined on 4/19/2014
  • "The service was amazing and the outdoor seating with the view of the city was really nice. However, we were not impressed with the foods. The cod was pretty good but the steam fish was below average. We had much better steam fish in Chinese restaurant. The hamachi stater wasn't fresh. I had much better hamachi at Arigato. We also ordered the wild mushroom risotto with black truffles. The rice was not fully cooked. With the price of $360 for dinner for 3 persons (we had only a bottle of wine for $54), I'd expect much better quality foods. I have lived in Santa Babara for 10 years and dined in many good restaurants in town due to my job. I'd not recommend this restaurant. Perhaps, it is a good place for drinks but not for foods."
