Diner Reviews
  • "Food is excellent. Wine is expensive when you consider that they pour about 4 oz per glass. The chairs need cushions for anyone on the thin side (little built in padding on the back side)."

  • "Great food, serve and atmosphere. Love it. Best overall stop of our week."

  • "We had a truly memorable experience at El Dorado Kitchen! The food, the service, the location and the lively bustle of the restaurant made for an amazing dining adventure! This was our first time to the restaurant but guaranteed not to be our last!"

  • "Wanted to try EDK and glad we finally tried it for lunch. The truffle fries were wonderfully flavored. The burrata was fresh and exactly what I expected. The best part was the duck confit salad, one of the best i have had. Overall, we loved it but our only wish would be to have a waiter that smiled and was personable. Would definitely return."

  • "We stayed in Sonoma in February and walked around the beautiful Sonoma plaza/city hall/park area each day. This restaurant's menu looked interesting and had a seafood dish my husband wanted to try. We went back that evening and had a wonderful, gourmet meal with great service and ambience. My husband loved his paella and I had a great NY steak. We would definitely return."

  • "The EDK offers well prepared food in a very pleasant atmosphere. I find the prices on the high side, however, & have to wonder why that's the case. I'd go more often, but can't justify the expense."

  • "I had the roasted petrale sole and my wife ordered the lobster risotto. My wife loved the lobster risotto, however my fish was not fresh and very fishy. I did not like the presentation of the fish dish nor the taste. My opinion was the fish was not fit to be served . My waiter was not attentive and did not even ask me , "if everything was ok". I have eaten at the restaurant before and had a great meal. I don't think I will return in the future."

  • "Our family of four had a wonderful dinning experience. We all ordered something different and passed our plates around, as we often do, and none of us were disappointed."

  • "Wanted to love it as we went on our anniversary. Saw the chef had worked ar Redd and Auberge so thought we were findinng a gem. Well, sadly not. Opted for a cucumber cocktail. It was great. The roasted beet salad was spot on and I should have stopped there. The menu is not very inspiring, especially for a great location in Sonoma. The bread should have been made into croutons. If I am going to eat bread make it worth my while. Husband ordered the beef carpaccio (sp) it was bland. We combined it with the beets and BAM! Flavor! I had the ravioli, it was much better than husbands bacon, cream fettuccini. That tasted like old rendered fat. I shudder remembering it. Service was great decor nothing special."

  • "EDK was recommended to us and we can now recommend it to others. This was an experience to remember. We came here while celebrating our anniversary. We were made welcome by every one that served us, especially our head server Michael. He pointed out a few suggestions on drinks and starters and they were on the money. We started with the truffle fries and asparagus soup....so delicious and flavorful. I had the oysters... so smooth and fresh. My wife ordered the NY Strip Steak which was actually a Filet Mignon...perfectly prepared and so tasty. I ordered the Duck Duet... and all I can say was mmmm mmmm yeah yeah. So, if you are looking for fresh tasty food, excellent service, and a totally awesome experience.... check out the EDK."

  • "Our starter - Ahi Tuna Tartare was refreshing and delicious! We ordered a carafe of wine from their "tap" menu. Very yummy but a bit overpriced. The lunch entrees were very good and nice portions. The Fettuccini with Housemade Chicken Sausage, Wild Mushrooms, Broccoli Rabe and Pine Nuts was filling and served hot. Wonderful. No dessert on this trip but we will return. I need to mention that our server, Israel, was outstanding. Super attentive, but not overly. Knowledgeable and friendly. Interior layout, nothing too exciting. Basic. Outside area looks like it would a nice experience."

  • "I met my 2 Japanese friends here who were in Sonoma for the weekend. It was raining, so we had to sit inside. One friend loved the décor and said the restaurant was "very California." However, the noise level was very loud and it was difficult to hear. It's too bad we couldn't sit outside. Also, my chopped salad was not chopped. :-( Other than that, I give this restaurant a "3" out of 5. It is very convenient if you're going wine tasting in Sonoma Valley."

  • "We were dining with friends we rarely see. Our server quickly picked up on that & gave us plenty of time/space to converse. She brought beverages, checked in, made suggestions, and took our orders. Lunch was fresh, tasty. Started with the Burratta & it was tasty. Could have used a little more bread with it at the onset. Lunch: Pork Tacos, Salmon Rillette, Reuben, and a burger were ordered & everything was delicious."

  • "EDK always does a great job. The food was excellent and the servers really know what they're doing. Always serving from the left, saying pardon my reach, knowing when to take a plate. Very refreshing and professional, but friendly as well."

  • "The food was very good . The issue I had was that I wanted to order the crab salad that was on the menu. After we waited for our drink order to come and the waiter was taking our food order, it was then he told me he forgot to mention that they were out of crab. Very disappointing."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "Only had two nights in Sonoma so every meal had to count. El Dorado wasn't mind-blowing, but the service was quick and courteous, the food was compelling enough that we all cleaned our plates, and the wine list was as good as you'd expect from a wine country establishment. Don't think we'd *rush* back, but we'd happily return."

  • "Food, service and overall experience just terrific. We'll be back next time in Sonoma!"

  • "It sounds a bit extraordinary, but Latin America meets French/Italian works - and gives the chef virtually free-rein. You will learn a great deal about Peruvian fare, as well as their local spices and flavors. But, you also experience a "no holds barred" frolic through world cuisine. We eat out at least four nights a week in SF and this was one of the best meals in years."

  • "We all had a great lunch. Two folks had the crab salad and that was delicious. The pork tacos and vegetable sandwich were also fantastic!"

  • "Lunch was great. Started with a mushroom flatbread that had arugula on top. The mushrooms were very flavorful. A perfect starter to share. Then had a duck confit salad. The duck was a de-boned thigh that had a good crispy skin. It was a delicious salad with the kumquats in it giving it a extra little citrus punch of flavor. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Good service. Would go back of in the area."

  • "Service was really great even and especially on a very busy Friday Valentines night. Food was really great, splits were no problem, wine was perfect and we enjoyed every minute of it!"

  • "This was our second time at El Dorado Kitchen and it did not disappoint! I had the evening special, which was a mix of thistle and regular gnocci. It was delicious! My significant other got the butternut squash ravioli, which was good, but not as earth-shatteringly good as mine. Desert was also delicious. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive as well. All around, a great experience!"

  • "We arrived a few minutes early and they were ready for us. The waiter was attentive, but his assistants weren't as attentive...we had to request more bread and butter and a clean bread plate. Overall, service was a 8-9 out of 10. Food offerings were excellent for wine country...local produce and paired well with wine...also some wonderful specials. Wine list was good, but prices of wines, especially 1/2 bottles, was outrages ($33). I should of brought my own bottle ($15 corkage). Usually, one dessert is comp. for a birthday, especially with over a weeks notice, but they charged us full price. Ok, restaurant option, but I would of taken the "high-road", based on what we ordered and the total bill, to comp the dessert."

  • "I've been to El Dorado Kitchen several times within the last couple of months and have given rave reviews. I had such a great tasting crab salad on my previous visit, that I ordered it again this last visit. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment--very skimpy on the crab, and the salad seemed watery, as though it had been prepared ahead (or perhaps the crab had been frozen). Service was very good as usual, and my husband's fish and chips entree was excellent. But, I don't think I will be ordering the crab salad again."

  • "It's wonderful to find a restaurant making creative use of healthy vegetables. I just love the beet salad; also, the fish dish with brussels sprouts and chanterelle mushrooms. The oysters and fish are always delicious."

  • "I had made a reservation on open table but found I needed to increase the party size and change the time. I was not able to do this on the website so I called the restaurant to see if they would be able to accommodate the changes. They called me back confirming they could accommodate our party. On the day we were to dine (1/19) I received a confirmation call from the restaurant for the wrong time. When I called back to clarify I was shocked by the rudeness & lack of professionalism. I wasn't flat out called a liar, but it was absolutely insinuated by Elizabeth, the manager. One comment from Ernita - "If you expect to be seated exactly at 7:30 you should go someplace else." We did, and so did $700."

  • "El Dorado was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. Excellent Salmon! Excellent Butternut Squash Ravioli. We sat in the bar/restaurant front area and it was great. The bartender/server was very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great evening. It's also right on the main square so it's a nice place to walk around in the evening."

  • "We always love The El Dorado, we all had green salad with fresh local crab, pears. Beautiful, simple lunch with good service. Dessert was a gooey chocolate concoction and profiteroles. Don't be in a hurry, it is worth the wait."

  • "My husband and I had lunch at El Dorado Kitchen recently. I had the Dungeness Crab Salad, husband had the Duck Confit Salad. Both were excellent. Mine was exceptionally fresh, the sweet grapefruit and the smooth avocado was delicious with the crab. Both salads were very generous. We had a half bottle of the Leo Steen Chenin Blanc, which was perfect with the salads. We were very impressed and will go back!"

  • "Visited Sonoma for our Honeymoon. Saved El Dorado Kitchen for our last night. Wish we hadn't as it was very very good and deserved a second visit. We started with Tuna Tartar - tasted as it should. Wife had the duck - was cooked perfectly. I had the Petaluma Chicken - very good! Service was laid back and friendly - one of the things I miss about California in general. Atmosphere was perfect, great music selection at just the right volume and lighting was perfect. My brides eyes were twinkling the entire time. Not sure when we will get back to Sonoma but the El Dorado Kitchen will be our first stop."

  • "I enjoy coming to EDK often. Breakfast is my favorite... the benedict is worth every calorie. Lunch is fabulous, especially outdoors in the patio. Your mushroom flat bread wins my vote. Dinner.. my honest input.. the menu could definitely be bumped up a few notches. The Petrale was mediocre. The duck duo very good. The lobster risotto, good too. The chicken very tasty, but perhaps too small of a portion for many. Desert, top of the line! Love coming in late in the evening just for desert and a glass of wine. All in all.. love coming here, but maybe not so often for dinner."
