Diner Reviews
  • "We went for dinner and the food was spectacular. I had the seafood paella which was delicious. My husband had the corn risotto which he enjoyed very much. Definitely a splurge for us, but worth it!"

  • "There outdoor patio is cool in the heat of the day. My dining partner has mobility issues and they were extremely gracious and helpful as she got to our table. And the squash salad was summer on a plate."

  • "One dish--lamb--was excellent, but the wild King Pacific salmon was oddly flavorless. As east coasters who have Pacific King every week during the season (we just grill it with some olive oil and it's very flavorful) we thought that having it here in Sonoma, so much closer to the source, would be amazing. But this tasted completely washed out; without all the frou-frou accompaniment it would have been nothing. Very disappointing. Wine list also rather uninspired considering that we're in premiere wine country. Patio was very lovely atmosphere for dining, though."

  • "We had such a wonderful family celebrating here. The service was excellent. Everything we enjoyed from the cocktails to the oysters to the risotto to the fried pie was absolutely delicious. We have been raving about the food for days. Such a wonderful spot!"

  • "My husband and I and another went to El Dorado for a celebration and it was wonderful. They were happy to prepare things, including drinks how we wanted them prepared and the waiter was friendly and there when we wanted him. We changed tables because the sun was in our faces and they were happy to accommodate us. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We ate outside and it was a gorgeous evening and we sat for a long time and that was fine with our server."

  • "Great food and service would recommend it to everyone"

  • "The food makes up for some of the erratic service elements. We requested outdoors, but they seemed insulted that we actually expected that to happen (a large party just got here ahead of you? Huh?) We were made to wait to EXACTLY our reservation time (but still had to remind them we were there), although the restaurant was not nearly full. Seems they had to seat that BIG party first. The food is excellent, and, to a big extent. makes up for the poor front-of-house service. The experience was uncomfortable with our out-of-town guests. We have eaten here for years - some attention to the front of house action would be appreciated. G&F across the street seems to care whether we dine there.... maybe EDK can capture some of that empathy."

  • "I always like to sit outside and enjoy the lovely weather and the old fig tree. But when the weather isn't so great, sitting inside is also a great experience. There is a hustle, bustle and energy that makes this large open room welcoming and fun. The food is great, as is the service. This is my go-to place on the square."

  • "Highly recommend everything about the restaurant: setting, service, and especially the food. Wonderful menu selection including innovative cocktails. Looking forward to returning soon!"

  • "Party of 5 we ate outdoors under the cabana which made me feel special! Loved the fig tree in the center of the courtyard and the wisteria around the courtyard felt like I was in the south. The service is 1st class without being over the top. 3 or us had the duck which was a smaller portion than expected but Delicious. the best dessert I have ever had, fried blueberry and a coconut sorbet to die for. My4th friend had Pork Chops topped with apricots which was the best meal at the table. The 5th friend who was a vegetarian had the cold corn chowder which was yummy and ravioli's which she said was good. I would recommend eating outside as its rather dark inside."

  • "Great ambience and food! Our server was a little slammed at first but then was awesome with recommendations and answering questions."

  • "We had the bur rata (delicious) and the new on the menu short rub entree. It was out of this world delicious!!"

  • "Service was poor and sloppy....male waiter was unshaven and unkempt and actually engaged in our private conversation as if he was a part. Had to ask for water, bread, no one came back to check on us and the waiters were not busy just inattentive...food way over-priced for what we received. Will not go back for a while. My wife who had gone there a few more times than I indicated that the service was spotty for her too."

  • "Enjoyed a late lunch with friends on the patio. Attentive server, fresh flavorful salad with perfectly prepared salmon."

  • "The food was great as was the entire experience. We ate in the outside dining area and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience. The service was onpar with the very good cuisine."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The mussels were great. The duck confit salad was delicious but the duck was a bit salty. Some large groups slowed the service."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "My group unanimously loved the El Dorado Kitchen. Our food was uniformly delicious and we enjoyed sitting on the patio with a breeze passing through our cabana. A lovely, lovely place to spend an afternoon."

  • "We were disappointed with our dining experience. It was rushed -- the appetizer we ordered came out of the kitchen immediately. We are foodies and were looking for a relaxing meal. The place was very busy, with many groups, and extremely loud. The servers were continually flying by our table. The food was good, but did not live up to the reputation we have heard about. We will not return. There are several other places on Sonoma square where you can get food of the same or better quality and have a more enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Server was great! Food was disingenuous and boring. The server should find a better restaurant to match his skills."

  • "The food was, as usual, fabulous. This is our favorite restaurant and we go whenever we can. The back patio is beautiful and cool on Sonoma evenings. Our server, Iz, was great. We both decided to have multiple small plates as opposed to one large dinner. The ambiance this particular evening was completely ruined by three adults sitting several tables over from us. They brought out an I Phone and started watching a video at HIGH volume. At first I thought "OK, fun home video will be over shortly." but it kept going and going. The volume was loud enough that it drowned out the music on the patio. This wend on for what felt like forever but was most likely 5 minutes. What appalled me more than their behavior was the servers said NOTHING."

  • "Our group ordered two appetizers and 3 different entrees. The asparagus and summer squash salads tasted so fresh... as if just picked. The duck confit melted in your mouth yet had a crispy skin for lots of texture. The meyer lemon ravioli and fettucine carbonara dishes were delicious."

  • "I was surprise about the $5.00 cake plate price. Other than that, the service and the food was very good. We all enjoyed ourselves. We will return."

  • "When in Sonoma, you must go to EDK. It's beautiful and a great find. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and their housemade pasta dishes. Make sure to ask the waiter for the specials. It's pretty expensive, so make sure you treat it as a special occasion."

  • "Nice but pricey dinner at El Dorado Kitchen. Service was only so-so with several misses, although our servers' attitudes were nice. Food was mostly good, but one order of Paella was overcooked."

  • "Wonderful food, great service and a Sonoma Gem. Have had dinner here many times and have always enjoyed!"

  • "Brought our granddaughter here for her graduation - good choice. We were welcomed as soon as we got to the desk. Dining room is eclectic and warm. The waiter was very friendly & helpful. My granddaughter, and I, had the sea food paella. Beautiful dish, and all the seafood was fresh, with an amazing sauce. It will be hard to order anything else next time. The grandmother unit had the Petaluma chicken - absolutely delicious. We sat next to the kitchen, which was fine. However, a employee was quickly wiping plates, and bowls, next to us - which was loud, and distracting. We mentioned it to him, and he quickly respected our request. Great dining experience, Dave (grandfather unit) "

  • "I went with the family for a birthday and made reservations a few hours earlier. When we got there we were seated promptly and our server came over and began introductions. The menu is an eclectic assortment of local and sourced ingredients that really shine. The oysters were crazy good for an appetizer. I had the duck confit and I thought it was very well executed. I really enjoyed how they made use of some lesser known ingredients. Next time I am in Sonoma I am coming back."

  • "There are many restaurants to choose from around the Plaza but over the years El Dorado Kitchen has always delivered wonderful food, service and ambience. The menu never disappoints and is seasonal with items for any food preferences. A good choice for a relaxing meal in a lovely space inside or out. Kuki "

  • "A group of six of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner outside in a cabana. The service was great, food was amazing. A wonderful spot to enjoy a nice dinner over wine and cocktails!"

  • "This is an OK restaurant. It is a modern american type of place. The food is decent, but quite standard, nothing that stands out. Given the location, the price and ambiance you would definitely expect more. It is fine for a week-end lunch outdoor, but it is definitely overpriced for they type of food they serve. "

  • "A A little disappointed in dinner choices. Would like more imaginative vegeterian (ie no risottos or pastas please). I wound up with chicken that was OK but not great and I do not see Anything that an egg adds to these dishes. Would have liked another fish choice besides salmon. Wine was excellent and starters were fine. I find lunch to be a better option in food choices at your prices."

  • "Four of us dined, 2 entrees were amazing. Two were over cooked and not tasty at all. If you order right, it's great."

  • "Wonderful lunch while wine tasting. Shared a few items loved by all. Pork tacos were great. Service was great. Salad & soup were tasty. I will be back! "

  • "Lovely outdoor patio and trendy inside seating. The menu for lunch needs to be broader. I only have one lunch option that I consistently like.... the vegetarian sandwich. The could improve using whole wheat chaibbata roll. The salads are too small, and I have had better reuben sandwich at community Cafe. Burger is good, but everyone is cutting back on red meat so not my standby order. If they could make a cobb salad like Breakaway Cafe, Greek salad like Hopmonk, and Mexican salad like LaCasa, I would make it my go-to downtown lunch spot. Dinner options are good, enjoyed last dinner there and everyone at table for 6 loved their meal too."

  • "We have dined at the hotel over many years and the Kitchen is the best version of inside/outside, elegant yet straight-forward food. It is one of our destination restaurants in Sonoma."

  • "We dined here with friends, after seeing the movie CHEF! All of our entrees were excellent. We shared the truffle fries and the chilled corn soup, and the lemon ricotta ravioli were amazing."
