The original El Cid was charming
located in the parlor level of a town house. The restaurant was always filled and lively with an authentic Spanish staff. The new El Cid has lost some of the ambiance. The tapas were: 1) grilled squid was terrific, 2) meatballs very good, 3) pork tenderloin was good and a lttle dry, 4) grilled shrimp good but could have used a sauce compliment, 5) leeks overpriced for what you got and 6) tripe tasty if you like that kind of food."

We went there on a lark. The food
was delicious, and the service courteous. The wait staff was particularly attentive to my nine year-old, neither itnoring him nor talking down at him. We'll be back, particularly for the tapas and merluza en salsa verde (hake in parsley sauce)."

We enjoyed the food. Every single
tapas dish we ordered was delicious. The servers were all polite and pleasant. Their house wine selections were very decent. It would be great if they have more wine options, though. What's missing was the buzz. It was so empty that we worried that this place may be gone by the next time we come around."

Great place and like new location
as we used to go to the one on 15th forever. In town to see friends and it is a perfect spot for good food and laughs. The staff is always helpful and nice service. Not too crowded over Thanksgiving weekend and we also got acquainted with other diners.Please go and enjoy! The seafood and skirt steak social yummy ...great octopus tapas and great desserts!"

We were one of 2 parties at the
restaurant on a Tuesday night. There was a waiter outside luring potential guests in. I made a reservation to this restaurant for my friend's birthday, however, I had my reservations because of previous reviews. Waiters made me feel uncomfortable with their flirting and the food really was just edible. Nothing spectacular. Not even close."

If you're looking god good food I
would highly recommend to visit El CID. That is a great place to enjoy good tapas. Not only what is in the menu but the proprietor goes the extra mile to accommodate your taste. I always have great time at El Cid restaurant."

Barely adequate tapas, very basic
wine, waaaay too noisy with people literally urged in off the street, and not a terribly clean place. Hard to believe that such a dive exists in Chelsea."

We went to El Cid for my friend's
birthday. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly. I lived in Spain for a good amount of time during college and I thought the food was very authentic. My friends and I really enjoyed our time at dinner. The atmosphere was very lively on the rooftop deck. We will definitely be back the next time we are in NYC and will definitely recommend it to friends to dine at."

Before it moved, El Cid was a
lovely little neighborhood tapas place. The food was good, and, while it was clearly very dated, that gave it a nice comfortable feel. Now, the food isn't as good as it once was, and it is a big, cavernous place that looks like all the other restaurants on that stretch of 8th avenue. The soul is gone. Oh well - at least we now have Boqueria."

I have a personal attachment to
this place from my days hanging out at the old El Cid on 15th street. This place, run by one of the guys who used to work there, has the identical menu of great tapas and paella. There the other night with friends, the owner sent over a bottle of Cava, saying it was nice to see faces from the old place. Very warm and inviting staff."

We had dinner at the restaurant on
May 10. The food was, as always, very good, but the service was terrible. We had to ask for menus, had to ask for bread, and waited almost half an hour for our appetizer, followed within 5 minutes by our entrees. We had a voucher for the meal, so there was no additional amount owed for the food itself. However, our waiter took it upon himself to add on an almost 20% tip for himself, based on the pre-voucher cost of the meal. That plus the tax came to $20, which was clearly written and circled on the check. However, after I gave him my credit card, the handwritten $20 was changed to $26 , and that's the amount he put through on my card. He said it was a mistake, but I don't believe that for a minute."
