Growing up in Phoenix, I remember El Chorro as one of my parents favorites as far back as the fifties. In the sixties, while in college, I worked next door at Camelback Inn. (In those days, the Inn was considered one of the Top Ten Resorts in the World.) After work we would occasionally stop into El Chorro for a late drink with Joe the bartender. To this day, I consider Joe the greatest, most welcoming bartender, I ever met. As for today, El Chorro is much larger, still very southwestern, and a beautiful setting. I do miss the mesquite burning fireplaces and some of the intimacy. That said, it is still a unique dining spot with wonderful food, a delightful staff, all made for an experience you will not soon forget.

El Charro is still the best brunch in Scottsdale. The setting is charming and the wait staff is professional in every way. I take everyone from out of town to El Charro. This place is first class all of the way.

We've been the valley for 10+ years and we've heard El Chorro was one of the best restaurants in town but just never got there. So, this year on our anniversary we took the plunge. What a great experience. The staff called in advance to ensure we had a table of our choice, they sat us immediately, we requested and received a romantic table, our server Ron was perfect, the food was amazing and came out at just the right times. The only complaint is it took a while to get a scoop of vanilla ice cream..

What a great find! This place has it all. The service was impeccable, the food any foodie would love and the ambiance delightful. El Chorro was about 25 minutes from our hotel and worth every minute of it. The Shrimp with Banana Polenta was delicious. One of the other people in the party had the Lamb - outstanding. The other two had the Pork Chop and Short Ribs. All said they hadn't had better. We even had converts to the Crispy Chicken Livers!! The ambiance is very relaxed. It was quiet enough to have a conversation without straining your vocal chords but still felt very alive and fun. We were here for business and will definitely come back for Dun.

For dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in over a decade, she recommended this as one of the best places in Phoenix. We can believe it based on our experience here. The prospect of dining on the patio after a near-100 degree day was daunting, but it was very comfortable, and the charm of eating outdoors was worth it. The server was knowledgeable and helpful. The margaritas were excellent. The chicken liver appetizer was great fun, and the wild salmon and ahi tuna special well nigh perfect. The prickly pear crème brulee was outstanding, the coffee just right. It made for a perfect evening for a reunion of friends.

Have been visiting El Chorro for about 30 years on my trips to Phoenix, principally for business dining and have never been disappointed. The major upgrade a few years ago greatly improved both the ambiance without reducing its charm as well as the quality of the food so that it offers a rare mix of great outdoor ambiance, great service, very good food and fair prices; particularly the wine list which is well thought out and reasonably priced. El Chorro has always impressed those that I have taken there and it remains one of Phoenix's dining treasures.

The setting is wonderful, views very enjoyable. Service was very good as well. What was disappointed was that two of our party shared the "rack" of lamb entrée - at $48 total or $24 each - to discover that a "half-rack" consisted of one (1) lamb chop. $24 for a single lamb chop seems unreasonable, and a true rack of lamb consists of as many as eight chops when I buy it. The value here is terrible and if you have a large appetite I recommend you fill up on the sticky buns (which are excellent) before your "rack" arrives.

The ambiance at El Chorro is outstanding. Therefore it is disappointing when the rest of the dining experience doesn't measure up. The food, on this occasion was average. Highlight was the wedge salad. My filet, served after an interminable wait, was overdone. My wife thought her pork tenderloin was excellent. The chocolate dessert was dry. Perhaps it was the chaos of restaurant week since our previous experiences have been far better. Obviously the kitchen was experiencing a problem since the delay between salad and entree was so long.

THANK YOU for making our night out so memorable! You had set up a beautiful table on the patio, and were so accommodating regarding our number changes. The setting was serene and absolutely perfect. John, our server, was just great and did everything possible to make it special. My guests were all Canadian and they kept saying how lucky I was to have such a setting where I live! They're right! I can't say enough about what a great evening it was, and El Chorro, our iconic, neighborhood gem, had everything to do with making it outstanding.

Our first time experience at El Chorro more than met my expectations. Upon being seated immediately at the best table on the patio with a killer view of the sunset on Camelback Mt, our waiter, Leopold, introduced himself and explained the menu options. Service was timely and efficient, yet unobtrusive. Food presentation met the excellent taste and quality as well. The pork tenderloin was so tender and moist, that I was able to cut it with a fork. A creamy cheesecake topped off the evening with moonlight shining on the mountain. I definitely will be back on a regular basis. One of the premier restaurants in the Scottsdale area for sure.

Very good breakfast with a beautiful surrounding. We had some champagne with our meal that our server recommended and it was very good. This isn't your typical brunch where you wait in line and see the same old mounds of eggs and overdone bacon. You order from the menu and enjoy being waited on. I had the eggs with bacon. It probably doesn't sound very exciting, but the presentation along with the service is worth it. Their cinnamon rolls are to die for!

This was our third visit. We were relegated to the more dreary back room for Sunday brunch, where the families/children are put. This was one of many visits we have experienced, having lived in Scottsdale for over 19yrs, but have for the past seven years in Lincoln, Ne. We were quite impressed with the physical change in the restaurant, bar and the valet services. It was a wonderful night, weatherwise, and enjoyed the time there again. The food was as usual...perfect. Servers were polite and timely. Forgot to take home our sticky buns and our credit card, however, your people called us on our phone and we took care of the credit card issue by destroying the item. My thanks to all of you, we will return in March, 2015 and join you again.

The view was pretty and the service was very good. Eric was our waiter and he was very attentive and on top of things. The food however was a disappointment and our $120 would have been well spent elsewhere. We are foodies and have been to a ton of restaurants here in AZ and this place was not impressive. The best part of the meal were the sticky buns. The filet was dry and the side items were nothing to brag about. The most disappointing part of the meal was dessert. The apple pie a la mode came out cold (the pie part). I asked for my ice cream on the side but the pie itself was cold. Shouldn't Apple pie be warm especially when served with ice cream? That's the best part is mixing the warm with the cold. We will not be back.

I decided to try the Kale Salad and it was wonderful. Chicken (not calves) Livers were on the menu as an appetizer. I ordered it as my entree and took some home. It was cooked perfectly and was absolutely delicious. My dining partners had the Grouper Special and the Rack of Lamb. Everything was superbly prepared. As a senior who likes to dine out, neither me nor my dining companions have EVER had such wonderful service. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and the restaurant itself has a lot of charm.

We went as a business group for a formal dinner and were amazed at how beautiful El Chorro was and how friendly the staff was. While we had a reservation, they graciously allowed us to "miss it" to enjoy cocktails on the outside patio with the sun set. Our server, Julio, was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make wine recommendations based on what we ordered. The food is beautifully prepared and worth going to try. For a celebratory dinner to a business type event, El Chorro will remain on our list going forward.
