We ate outside, as it was a lovely evening and the view of the Mountain was wonderful. My husband had to just look at me all evening. I had the crispy chicken livers to start, and there was a mountain of them that we easily shared without feeling cheated. I had the short ribs and would have much preferred to have Not had the mashed potatoes; way too starchy. They were tasty and the food presentation generally was very nice; pleasing. We also had a drink sitting outside at the bar. Also enjoyable. Our waiter was not the best, and we thought he had an attitude. This somewhat diminished our overall experience of the restaurant. Grilled cheese appetizers were terrific (first time for those!), my martini was perfect, and entrees, sticky buns and dessert were divine. We did ask to change tables after a bar mitzvah started up right next to us, as it wasn't out intent to be part of a 13-year old's disco party that night. We were moved to the opposite side of the patio very quickly, with a smile. Granted the reservation for myself and my fiancé was made just that afternoon and we were "only" ordering from AZ restaurant week menu, but we were told we would have to wait for an opening outside. Fair enough, however the patio looked nowhere near capacity, and it was almost 7:30, so we were hungry. Again, great service and great food for our meal. We dined here during restaurant week and ordered from the special menu reserved for this occasion the food was good but not outstanding. I had the trout and ate most of it. I could have eaten it all but it was very salty. The deserts we ordered were Apple pie alamode but the pie was not warm. the chocolate pie seemed to be of the ice box type and was run of the mill tasting. My husband had the filet and he thought it was very good and cooked to his exact liking. We will return and try the regular menu as the sitting is well worth the visit. I recommend Camelback IPA; it has body, superb flavor, and a moderate blend of malt and hops. The staff was friendly and willing to chat. The weather was beautiful and the sunset with the desert background was quaint. Our service was excellent and I never had a water glass empty. The food was tender and flavorful. But of course, their famous sticky buns were delicious. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting or living in Arizona. New owners have extensively remodeled to provide outstanding outdoor dining and great open-air ambience in a beautiful setting with Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. Mother's Day brunch is arguably one of the busiest dining days of the year, yet we were seated promptly and received excellent service from Damien throughout our meal. We received our famous sticky buns (awesome!!) almost as soon as we were seated. The brunch buffet was extensive and, while everything served was excellent, there was no real "standout" dish. The scenic view was awesome, we sat right by the outdoor fireplace. Noise level was moderate, it seemed everyone was having a great time but not overly loud. Otherwise Ron was an excellent waiter and gave us another glass of wine on the house for having to wait for our main course. All the food from appetizer to dessert was excellent. The food and atmosphere was perfect, right along with the weather (we dined outside). There was a large group there that night as well, this is one of the many great things about El Chorro, you have have several things that go on at the same time and it never interferes with other patrons and never slows down service. Honestly, this is the first time I have been here since the new owners and remodel, I was in fear the charm would be gone, but it's still there - only BETTER now.
