A word from El Chorro
El Chorro’s iconic setting at the base of Camelback & Mummy Mountains offers an authentic Arizona desert setting where generations of Valley residents and visitors alike come to savor classic, seasonal cuisine; enjoy a relaxed Sunday brunch; gather with friends over happy hour; celebrate special occasions or meet with associates.

El Chorro’s culinary vision features classic cuisine favorites with a Southwestern-inspired influence. The menu offerings center on fresh, organic and locally grown ingredients – including herbs and produce from the El Chorro garden located right outside the kitchen.

The restaurant and event venues have recently been restored, renovated and enhanced to further preserve this landmark’s rustic charm. El Chorro became the first restaurant in Arizona to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

Diner Reviews
  • "We have had dinner and brunch here several times and it's always been good...but Easter brunch was not. The food was cold from the buffet and our waiter was seen standing around when our coffee was empty and had to be reminded of our other drink order. The tip was added on the bill at 18% which would have been fine if he was attentive. When you get bad service you should be able to adjust the tip. Again I just want to say I love dinner here."

  • "We had a wonderful brunch in Easter morning at El Chorro. There were seven of us, four adults and three children under f5 years of age. We had a lovely table in the courtyard, ad an early morning reservation (9am) and enjoyed the brunch. Service was very nice, the food was yummy, the Easter activities for the kids (egg hunt, face painting, and balloons) went over very well with our group. We did not feel rushed at breakfast, there was a note that said that the next group was scheduled in an hour and forty-five minutes which was plenty of time to eat and enjoy the kid activities. "

  • "The ambiance is great with the views and charming buildings. The buffet was good but not outstanding. That being said we will definitely go back. "

  • "We dined for Easter - the dinner buffet. It was very wonderful. The sad part is we had 6:00 reservations and they were not readily replenishing alot of the items, especially desserts. Overall though the food was wonderful! El Chorro is always a delight!!! "

  • "It was just OK... Quite a disappointment actually. I was here last year for Mother's Day Brunch and they had the buffet too and am not sure if I was just impressed the first time because it seemed to me that everything was good then. This was the reason I came back. There was good and bad. Food was cold, Eggs Benedict overcooked, ham was dry. Enchilada which was cold and not tasty. The dessert table was spectacular, lots of good choices! Service was good, our server was really grea.t. Bussing the table was slow. Last time was really quick! I have to say though that the hot buns were spectacular! So were the blintzes and the frittata. I know El Chorro is a fine restaurant but somehow, this time they failed..."

  • "This was our first time at El Chorro for Easter brunch. It wasn't super crowded like many other brunches get on Easter. The food was amazing, especially the sticky buns!!!"

  • "El Chorro provides a beautiful blend of historic elegance, a bountiful Easter buffet, and good service. Diners of all ages are welcomed, even those in new Easter finery and carrying baskets filled with treasures. From appetizers to desserts, a job well done. "

  • "We are here for our annual girls' vacation and have dined at El Charro a number of times. Each time, the food and service have been outstanding. The outdoor dining area has great views of Camelback Mountain and is a must for us when we dine there. "

  • "We waited 1 and 1/2 hours for 2 orders of their famous Eggs Benedict and finally left without receiving our order. What a shame such a beloved and beautiful dining spot has sunk so low. As a year round local, I probably won't return or even recommend the restaurant to anyone."

  • "Food and service on the patio was well done. Service at the tables next to bar for serving bar patrons was not very attentive and it was difficult to get our servers attention to refill drinks or accommodate new arrivals to our table."

  • "nothing at all to complain about! From the tequila cocktails ,salads and to the entree the whole experience was wonderful. We will bring friends with us next time. Scenery was beautiful and plenty of seating . 2 patios of outdoor seating."

  • "We have spent 4 months in Scottsdale each year for the last 14 years. We discovered the old El Chorro Lodge via several recommendations regarding outdoor ambiance and go there several times each year. It is a very good upscale dining location and the patio is an excellent place to enjoy the sunset. We recommend the El Chorro for those who good food and exceptional outdoor ambiance."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at El Chorro's recently and it was really divine, both the food (we had the Chateaubriand) and the outdoor patio ambiance. Our server was very gracious, attentive. We had not been back there for awhile, so it was fun to see all the improvements they've made to the place, inside and out. A big collective "wow." (Although we liked it a lot before as well.) We will no doubt return, hopefully soon because I thought the Trout Almondine looked very yummy. Good wine list too."

  • "I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I wasn't really impressed either. The restaurant itself is attractive and inviting and the food itself was good. We were there on a Sunday night and apparently they always make their Posole soup - which was fantastic and the highlight of my meal. My issue really was on the follow through with the experience. Our waiter was a tremendous character with a lot of personality. but halfway through the dinner it almost appeared like he lost interest and we saw little from him again. As a result, the dinner dragged on too long and the dining experience lost momentum. The biggest disappointment - despite promises of a basket of their "famous sticky buns" on their menu, none ever arrived."

  • "I did respond to a call from the restaurant that for so,e reason the food delivery was very slow - even the manager came by the table to offer apologies. This wa stye fist time I had such an experience."

  • "We decided to go to El Chorro as I had been there a few years back and had a wonderful eggs benedict. The meal this past Sunday was as delicious as it was before. I always go for their specialty and the eggs benedict this time was as good as I remembered. I know everyone will comment on their sticky buns and I enjoyed those as well. Very tasty. They have a lovely setting and tastefully decorated building with dining both inside and out. The menu is very good with great choices for everyone. I suggest you give, brunch, lunch and dinner a try if you are in the Scottsdale area for an extended period of time. Brunch is just served Sunday's. Go and enjoy!"

  • "Except for when we sit at the bar, service is always really slow albeit friendly. Usually in those cases it's how the restaurant assigns tables and not the fault of the server. But the food is always good and the view can't be beat. Sitting out side in Arizona in the spring is what I live for."

  • "The food was pretty average (except for the sticky buns, which are excellent but also which don't really go with a dinner meal) and about the same as what you can find at dozens of other restaurants. The tables were not very conducive to a romantic dinner or private conversation, so if you're looking for that, try elsewhere. The prices, though, were through the roof! I'd expect much better food for these prices. Overall, we were not impressed."

  • "My wife and I have dined here every year since 1992. It has always been a special place with great food, terrific patio, outstanding service, and a view you can't beat. The recent upgrade has only made it better."

  • "I went there expecting upscale south of the border food and was very pleasantly surprised to find a mixture of seafood, steak, vegetarian, and other fine dining fare. The service was first class and very attentive but not overly in your face. The staff worked together which made it more fun. I had a grouper dish which was very well prepared..I will definitely go back."

  • "This has been a tried and true restaurant for many years in the valley After the remodel it went through a difficult patch but it is but it is back and wonderful again. It was truly enjoyed by all. Happy to tell you our feelings but having to write at least 50 words is too much/"

  • "We had out of town guests and we all absolutely loved dinner...great atmosphere, seated near the fireplace. Our friends couldn't get over how nicely it was decorated for being outside. Braised short rib was eexcellent as well as the sea bass special. The sticky buns served with all meals are amazing.a little pricey but definitely worth it. Certainly recommend for anyone entertaining out of town guests. The house salad left a little to be desired, the beet salad was pretty good."

  • "they've obviously poured a lot of money into the remodel of El Chorro, they would be better advised to put some money into recruiting a new chef. this is too nice a place to have such mediocre food."

  • "El Chorro is the quintessential destination for out-of-town visitors. The patio setting was perfect for a beautiful March evening. Our server was attentive and informative re: the restaurant's menu as well as it's history. The food was good as well as the presentation. Our diners enjoyed the pork soup, sausage appetizer and veggie and trout entrees. Wine by the glass was affordable. A great evening!"

  • "We had not been to El Chorro in about 10 years. We had friends visit who had never been to AZ so we felt this was the "quintessential AZ restaurant" for them to see. The food was better than we remembered it from the past. The outside dining area was gaily lit. The service was quite good. Several negatives - our table was by the kitchen so therefore less than intimate, the beet salad appetizer was frozen solid when served - obviously not fresh - and the cherry pie contained a pit that fortunately caused no dental issues(and the waiter removed the charge for the pie from the bill). All in all, a nice experience but certainly not an exceptional one. We'll likely return but not real soon."
