A word from El Chorro
El Chorro’s iconic setting at the base of Camelback & Mummy Mountains offers an authentic Arizona desert setting where generations of Valley residents and visitors alike come to savor classic, seasonal cuisine; enjoy a relaxed Sunday brunch; gather with friends over happy hour; celebrate special occasions or meet with associates.

El Chorro’s culinary vision features classic cuisine favorites with a Southwestern-inspired influence. The menu offerings center on fresh, organic and locally grown ingredients – including herbs and produce from the El Chorro garden located right outside the kitchen.

The restaurant and event venues have recently been restored, renovated and enhanced to further preserve this landmark’s rustic charm. El Chorro became the first restaurant in Arizona to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

  • "We go to El Chorro on a regular basis and have enjoyed each time. Our only negative experience was about a year ago and was based on other rude patrons. The restaurant has always done a great job!"

  • "Just the right combination (for us) of casual bar outside, potential for dining outside during chillier evenings, and a great ambiance inside as well. Our server was excellent. A real pro at knowing how to serve slowly but attentively. It's nice when the servers know where to set your dish rather than asking "who had the ribs?", "who had the trout?", etc. All the appetizers, entrees were excellent and plenty to eat. We will return."

  • "As a former Phoenician I was disappointed at the remodel. It certainly has challenged the charm and with all gas fired fireolaces you lose the wonderful smell of mesquite burning. Great staff, good service, good food but ambiance lost."

  • "El Charo used to be one of my wife's and my favorite restaurants with a beautiful setting, good food and great service. No more! First we had to keep requesting a table in the area we wanted and the hostess kept trying to put us in the room she wanted. Finally when we prevailed the menus were almost trhown on the table. Then the waiter came up and asked our names and then called us by our first name from then on. This is too friendly and inappropriate. The food was extremely poor. I had beef strogonoff and my wife had trout almondine. The beef strogonoff meat was tough and the sause clearly was a gravy that came out of a chef boy ar dee can. My wifes entree was a huge fish, poorly presented laying on 3 potato slices that were too thick and unappealing. The fish was over cooked and dry. We won't be retuning. There wasn't anything about the evening that was charming, elegant or satisfying."

  • "LOVE, love, love for Sunday brunch on the patio!!!! (need to finally get there for dinner). Sticky buns are TDF!!! Omelette of the day (prime rib, peppers, etc) sooo good; creme brûlée French toast-always YUM!!!!, and you can never go wrong with the eggs Benedict or Bloody Mary."

  • "The food was excellent and our waiter Leopold was exceptional you will truly enjoy the dining experience."

  • "I've been dining here for 25 years. With the remodel the food and ambiance remain top notch. Long timers, however, should be aware. Their famous sticky buns are smaller than ever, you get fewer than before, and without any warning we were charged for extra baskets. A real surprise that ruined the end of a perfect evening."

  • "The dining room is a splendid space, the servers were very attentive, we had a visit from the owner making sure everything was all right. Overall, this is a lovely experience. The food is not trendy, which we like, but were disappointed in the ratio of vegetables to meat in the dish we chose. We'll be back, trying other dishes."

  • "We dined at El Chorro on Oct 20 and again on Oct 29, 2014. Between those dates the menu changed in some respects. We ordered some of the same items on the 2nd visit and the preparations had changed also. We still like El Chorro but liked it better on the 20th than the 29th. It is our favorite outdoor dining restaurant in Scottsdale."

  • "I ordered a veggi burger. Waiter said its not good. took his advice. Re-ordered a turkey sandwich. Bread dry, little ball of turkey at end of sandwich so it looked like a lot. Not! Big boast about the sticky buns. They were warm not that great as well. Other breads in basket cold not warmed up at all. Waiter complained about other staff not bringing out my drink when it was ready. I had to wait awhile. For our 30th wedding anniversary bad choice for brunch, expected more and was not happy."

  • "The ambiance of this restaurant is so beautiful that the food could be lousy and it would still be a success. A delightful evening out on their patio with very good food. (And don't forget the sticky buns). The sea bass was superior."

  • "The Bar scene was great, the food was great and the service was attentive. If the weather permits, I recommend eating outside on the patio. I started with the Burratta and Tomato salad. The portion was generous to say the least and delicious! The Nieman Ranch Pork Chop was tender, juicy and grilled to perfection. The Wine list wasn't terribly extensive but what they did have was reasonably priced. The only criticism I have of El Chorro is that the outside tabletops are a bit flimsy and so wine bottles, drinks and water glasses don't sit very stable. We spent a good portion of the meal keeping an eye on our liquids so they did not spill. Eventually we put the wine bottle on the ground next to the table so it wouldn't topple."

  • "Wether you're just out for a dinner or celebrating a special occasion or want to have an evening with friends this is where you want to be. Food, service and ambience is second to none and my bride and I always make this one of our first places for dinner."

  • "This was a special occasion for my wife's birthday. I had another couple join us who arrived first. We were seated in the indoor room and I would have preferred being outside on the patio."
    Dined on 10/21/2014
  • "It was raining very hard and unfortunately, we were not able to sit outside. We made reservation at least two weeks ahead of time, but were seated under a big TV screen showing a football game, although there was plenty of room in the main dining room. We were celebrating two birthdays that evening and found the entire experience disappointing. Our server was very professional, no complains here. The food was O.K., but I had better meals at El Chorro in the past. Will probably come back, but only for Happy Hour."

  • "Returned to El Chorro and elected to try the burger. it took 40 minutes to get our meal. The burger was tasteless and the fries were warm at best. The manager was kind enough to comp the meal but I'd expect more from a burger served here."
    Dined on 10/19/2014
  • "The patio dining is the best I have seen. Love the ambiance. Service could be improved. Waiter seemed annoyed with any questions about menu items."
    Dined on 10/18/2014
  • "Growing up in Phoenix, I remember El Chorro as one of my parents favorites as far back as the fifties. In the sixties, while in college, I worked next door at Camelback Inn. (In those days, the Inn was considered one of the Top Ten Resorts in the World.) After work we would occasionally stop into El Chorro for a late drink with Joe the bartender. To this day, I consider Joe the greatest, most welcoming bartender, I ever met. As for today, El Chorro is much larger, still very southwestern, and a beautiful setting. I do miss the mesquite burning fireplaces and some of the intimacy. That said, it is still a unique dining spot with wonderful food, a delightful staff, all made for an experience you will not soon forget."
