Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first visit to El Centro's Georgetown location and I have to say I prefer it (hands down) to the original location on 14th Street. The restaurant was crowded but my dinner companions and I were able to have a conversation, the server was knowledgeable about the offerings and steered me to a most excellent entree and the margaritas were superb. I will definitely be back."

  • "Excellent Happy Hour of Margaritas and when you add the Huaraches (the steak one, not a fan for the mushrooms). thumbs up!"

  • "I like this place a lot, although it isn't as good as the one on 14th St. Service was truly excellent. The best Tequila list I have ever seen - try a flight of different styles from the same company to learn what you like best. The food was very good, while 14th St. served the best Mexican food I have ever had. We had an excellent guacamole fixed at the table. For the menu, avoid the tacos, which are very small and mediocre. Their basic margarita is different and a good change. FYI: While they have a good happy hour, prices are only good at the bar. So people get their first drink at the very crowded bar, and then the bar clears out at 7:00 and people go to reserved tables(hence the lack of reservations)."

  • "Perfect for a girls night out. Went with a few friends, and loved it. Very easy to get to by bus and was a nice escape from the typical DC restaurant scene. Ordered frozen lime margaritas that were to die for. The guacamole was made on site, and they were very accommodating and made it without cilantro. The restaurant is fun, and if you make a reservation, they seat you right away. Also ordered the chicken tacos which were delicious. Give it a try! Also, came to about $40 a person for 2 drinks each, guacamole, and 3 entrees I believe which in the DC area is not too bad!"

  • "The restaurant was nice enough in terms of decoration and layout, but the food was basic and slightly overpriced--I imagine it's hard to make tex-mex anything other than what it is. It might have just been our waiter, but he was tired and inattentive. The food also took a very long time to make, especially considering their main staples are typical Mexican rice and black bean puree. We also had a reservation, arrived on-time, and the host had us stand for 5-10 minutes with out telling us we would need to wait or apologizing for the wait, he seemed tired too."

  • "Some of the most delicious Mexican we have ever had! Very vibrant and fun atmosphere! We would frequent here if we were local!"

  • "The food is fantastic and the margaritas were delicious. I will definitely be going back!"

  • "Even with a reservation expect a wait. 2nd experience here for brunch, and maitre d has been rude and dismissive both times. The bartender would not even serve us drinks while we waited unless we chose to dine at the bar in lieu of waiting half an hour to be seated for our reservation. The food is good but the wait staff appears understaffed and tend to disappear at all the right times. With plenty of quality brunch spots in DC, this is one I would not recommend. They have consistently turned what should be a relaxing brunch experience into a stressful one."

  • "One of the few good inexpensive good dining rooms in Georgetown. Food, service and drinks are great, it's energetic but not hectic. Only complaint is that I felt like we were on dates with the people at the two tables on either side, the tables are a little too close together for comfort."

  • "I haven't yet had a chance to take advantage of El Centro's bottomless brunch but their mimosas and tacos are delicious! Their guacamole (coming from someone raised in Southern California) was too citrus-y for my taste but we still ate all of it. The ambiance wasn't too loud for a Saturday brunch, which was great!"

  • "I have had way better authentic Mexican food in suburban America, but maybe that's not what the D. F. Stands for? They will definitely keep your water glass full, that's for sure. Not really worth the dollars and cents."

  • "I realize that this is a new location, but service was seriously lacking compared to the 14th st location. I asked for veg menu and the waitress emphatically let me know that there wasn't one (even though I knew for a fact there is and had her check). Similarly, margs basically didn't have any alcohol in them. We were seated at a table next to the bar and had a lot of trouble getting the waitress's attention."

  • "Love this place! Fresh, delicious, beautiful authentic Mexican food and presentation. Great drinks, guacamole made to order table side, my new go-to neighborhood outing. Chips addictive and bottomless, young crowd, nice outdoor deck covered in bad weather. Perfect!"

  • "The brunch deal was a good way to try a large variety of the menu. However if you are looking for well spiced food this is not a great place. The hot dog is fantastic, other than that our group was underwhelmed by the food. For brunch they give unlimited food for 25$ or food and drink for 35$ so it's a decent deal if you aren't too picky about your food"

  • "I am a fan of El Centro 14th St and wanted to give their Georgetown location a try. The food is the same (good), but the atmosphere is much worse in Georgetown. We had dinner on the patio around 6-7 pm. It was impossible to have a conversation because of the loud club music, which was completely out of sync with the Mexican profile of the place. I'm not asking for mariachis, but they should be able to provide a more coherent vibe (at a lower volume) than Eurotrance and tacos. When the manager came by to ask us for feedback, I candidly mentioned that the loud club music didn't really fit in, which elicited a hostile stare and a dismissive statement that "this is our concept." Good luck with that. We won't be back."

  • "Good deal for bottomless brunch. Management/staff however were rude and disorganized with our large group reservation."

  • "It's hard to find a better deal in town for brunch: $35 all you and eat and drink. Our server was so helpful with special food allergies and kept our drinks topped up throughout: cheers to Juan for making our experience so amazing. We will be back for sure!"

  • "Fantastic food!! We were constantly looking for our server though. To her credit, the place was packed. It was also incredibly loud, with large birthday parties on either side of our upstairs table. This pretty much sums up the conversation: Me: "This food is great!!" Significant other: "WHAT?" Lol. Probably wouldn't pick this for "date night" on a Friday evening again. During the week it's much more quiet."

  • "The brunch was a great concept. However, it's not all u can drink, it's just a few of their items which does NOT include a margarita. The food was so taste-less, we tried 5 or 6 items... But it wasn't happening. Chips and salsa were great, but not $93.00 great."

  • "Everything but the dazed hosteses is good at this Georgtowhn nuevo mexicat restaurant. Enjoyable service, good food(sometimes served luke warm)and really good salsa. If they couldd atke the smirts of the hosteses faces and coordinateseating plasns better this restaurant wouod be a hit with us locals . Now that I've dined there 6 time in last 3 months Id dexpecgt them toredognize a loyal customer."

  • "I'm from LA and I've lived in Mexico, so I'm kinda picky when it comes to Mexican food. Until recently, offerings in the DC area have been relatively limited. El Centro DF was a great find! The menu is pretty limited, but they offer daily specials which add more variety. Their table-made guacamole is made/served in a traditional stone mortar. Shared the guacamole, chicken flautas and their carnitas with a friend .. yummy and perfect for lunch. My friend ordered a chocolate cigar for dessert: amazing! And they have an amazing selection of tequilas listed in a sort of tequila bible! I'll definitely be back."

  • "I had heard so many positive things about el Centro on U street, such as there extensive list of 200 tequilas, their authentic cuisine, their fun ambiance, and their great service. However, I went to their Georgetown location on Saturday at 5pm, and it was far from what I expected. We got sat immediately, but our waiter didn't come over until 20 min later to ask us for our drink order. The place wasn't even packed. The tables are so close to each other. We ordered tacos al pastor and steak tacos which were really salty. The only plate I thought was excellent was the guacamole. They prepare it in front of you and ask how you want the spiciness level right when you get seated. The strawberry margarita was super sweet which I didn't like at all"

  • "The brunch at El Centro D.F. is one of the best deals around."

  • "As with Sandoval's other restaurants, El Centro DF continues to be a great idea, but not a great meal. The service was helpful and attentive. The music was too loud for the space. The menu has a lot of variety, but the food is bland. My tamales came out luke warm and a bit soggy. All of the dishes we tried were missing a kick--either lime or something spicy to enhance their flavors. We also tried the tequila tasting but were really disappointed with the flavors. The guava tasted flowery and nothing like the fruit, the pineapple habanero tasted like strong tequila, and the strawberry basil was just plain gross."

  • "After having been to the first location on 14th Street we were thrilled to see a new location pop up on Georgetown. The ambiance was vibrant, the cocktail menu has a variety of creative drinks and the food is just so. incredibly. good. My only disappointment was having to wait 45 minutes for a table even though we made a reservation (I'm assuming this was because only half the party had arrived at the time of reservation)."

  • "Replacing the eponymous bar THE THIRD EDITION in Georgetown, the sister location of EL CENTRO is a welcome addition to the area. The food like its sister restaurant on 14th is excellent and has some unique twist. The bottomless brunch will definitely be appreciated for those who like to shop on Sunday. Definitely get some pitchers of of the different flavored margaritas"

  • "This is my third time eating at El Centro in the past 2 months and I must say that I like it more each time! The food is the best Mexican food in DC and it has a different twist than traditional Mexican fare, but without being too gourmet. Those diners preferring simple fare will not be disappointed! Our service was excellent too!"

  • "Their was a half of a piece of a champagne glass in my mimosa that know one really rectified and preceded to pour out of the same pitcher. The bottomless brunch also was really slow to come out. I would not return to this location"

  • "Can't beat the all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal for $35 brunch, but the food is better at El Centro's sister restaurant, Masa 14, which has the same brunch deal. Still a fun place to go and the drinks are very tasty. Maybe stick to just the bar scene at El Centro."

  • "My visit to El Centro was outstanding. The food was delicious and the ambience was great! The restaurant is a bit small so it gets really loud. At one point, conversation at my table was impossible because of the loud people next to us. Regardless, the food was amazing and I'll definitely be back! I highly recommend the Korean BBQ tacos or the Greek Tacos. The freshly made guacamole is also a must!"

  • "I have now been twice and enjoyed great food and drink both times but don't look forward to the issues with seating which I experienced both times. Basically they try and put you in a bad location and hope you don't speak up. This despite asking for a specific area on my reservation which should have indicated that I've been there before. Also the waiter must have touched my shoulder a dozen times in an attempt to be friendly. His service was good but my guest found this creepy. Bottom line- love the place and food but management needs to fine-tune things."

  • "Have gone here 3x now since it opened in Georgetown & have had a great experience ever time. Food is delicious, service excellent, & atmosphere trendy. Finished dinner around 11:00 & the back of the resturant was turning into a hip bar area. Highly recommend!"

  • "I've only been to El Centro for dinners and the food is always amazing. My friends and I decided to try their brunch and we were glad that we did. For just $35, you get unlimited select cocktails (mimosa, agua fresca, blood mary, etc) and unlimited food. And the menu for unlimited brunch items was diverse and plentiful. It was plate after plate of shareable food items. And they cater to the amount of people at your table. For example, if you have 6 people at your table, they'll give you enough food for 6 people. It was more food and drinks than I have ever had at any other brunch place. And the quality of food was divine. I will definitely come back here. Highly recommended. Reservations are a must because it was super-crowded."

  • "The valentine's day menu was diverse but in staying close to El Centro's roots of an upscale Cantina. Our selections were delightful and didn't taste like it was made in bulk hours before like some Prix Fixe menus. The service was spot on although my plate was cleared before my date was finished."

  • "My boyfriend and I came her for the first time on a Friday night. The food was delicious! Everything we had was very good, even the chips they give you were scrumptious. The drinks were also very good, definitely would recommend a margarita. My only complaint was the service. The host seemed to forget that we were there and had to be reminded that we were still waiting to be seated. The table service also seemed to be a bit frazzled as well. But after getting seated and ordering some food/ drinks, we had a great night. I would definitely recommend!"
