  • "The restaurant had the ambiance of fine dining. Valet parking at the door, but once inside it's very small with a limited menu to match. My order was the low country seafood pasta. It was a fairly well portion size but it seemed as if there was no chef in the kitchen. The plate was brought to me messy without the chef flair or stamp of approval. On top of that, the food was very bland. Nothing hit my palette that made me crave for more. 83.....was chopped from my upscale dining list."

  • "This is a small place, but it has a very friendly feel. The staff are helpful. When asked, they give their opinion about each item on the menu. For example, "that is my favorite" or "don't get that". I like that. I was there interviewing a person for a job and the noise level was fine for talking across a table. Food is very good and not "crazy" expensive. Great bread pudding!"

  • "Was late getting reservations for my anniversary, I quickly searched for the first with open tables on a Friday night. eighty3 had some available. This restaurant is attached to the Madison hotel in downtown Memphis. Much better than your typical hotel bar, but I would say reservations are not the norm and probably rarely necessary. There was multiple table open ( bar area is as large as table area.) After waiting a few minutes at the entrance, we were greeted and our waitress was fantastic. Food A++ and servings were plentiful. $$$ $165 for two with a glass of wine and a few beers. If you are going to spend a weekend in Memphis, stay at the Madison & have one night of drinks & dinner @ eighty3, you'll enjoy it."

  • "Everything was exceptional, as always! From the lady who seated us, to our waitress, we were made to feel special. We rented a limo and had dinner at 83, so everything turned out perfectly. I had the Chilean sea bass and my wife had the filet, which she could cut with a fork! The creme brule' was excellent. It was all a wonderful evening!"

  • "Ate there Sat 2/1/2014. Small restaurant large bar area. Went for my nephew's graduation dinner. He had the prime rib eye with Frites. Said it was the best steak he has ever had. His mom had the salmon which she loved. I had the sea bass which was OK but not great. It didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting from the description - Honey Soy glazed. It was served with sauted fennel and delicious mashed potato. We had the queso and grilled oysters as starters. Queso was excellent with homemade chips, the grilled oysters had hardly any oyster but they were tasty."

  • "Good experience overall, but my taste for the dishes just varied a bit from what was served. Pork pinwheel could have been more savory than sweet, and grits were really more of a corn cake. Bread pudding was too deeply caramelized. Nevertheless, I ate everything, and the food was adventurous. The place is very modern in decor, and the service was very good."

  • "My husband and I have eaten dinner at eighty3 twice recently. Both times the food was outstanding. I had the sea bass and it was perfect. The chopped salad is also very good. The restaurant isn't very big though and when large parties are there it can get very loud. It's not a quiet, romantic place, but has a fun, funky atmosphere. We enjoyed it, despite the noise, and will definitely go back."

  • "Enjoyed a five course Prix fixe dinner for NYE with friends. Soup or Lobster salad to start, both delicious, their signature jalapeno cornbread, entree of pecan crusted red snapper or surf and turf, including a very good steak. Dinner ($75. ++) included entry to the hotel party, a $35. value. A good deal, and a great evening!"

  • "We had reservations for New Years Eve and the bar was so crowded, we were never seated. Ended up going to a different restaurant for dinner (had to rush thru the $75 per person meal) and BARELY had time to enjoy the midnight festivities.The bar tenders were nice, but the hostess on duty was very preoccupied- understandably. After our stay at the Madison hotel, which is connected to eighty3, we enjoyed a very quiet and delicious breakfast. Unless you enjoy standing on top of rude people at the bar, go for breakfast. Much better experience!"

  • "Had a 10:00 reservation. After waiting 15 for the hostess to even acknowledge us, we grabbed the manager. She basically informed us that they weren't prepared for the crowd and overbooked. Unacceptable for a highly rated hotel and on NYE! Finally seated after waiting 45 minutes. We did the $75/person pre fixe. I'd say it was worth about $10 a person given the amount of food per serving and the poor quality. "Shrimp beignets" were deep fried tempura battered rubber. I lived in New Orleans...maybe they should visit before calling that travesty a beignet. Firecracker shrimp was inedible. Snapper was soggy and drowned in sauce. THIS WAS A FOODIE's NIGHTMARE! Spent $150 on AWFUL food, dreadful wait WITH a reservation, subpar service."

  • "This was our 1st time at eighty3, but it had come recommended by several friends. We took advantage of a prix fixe New Years Eve menu. We were not only celebrating the holiday, but also our 25th wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with our food and the overall experience was excellent. Initially, I was a little disappointed in the dessert selection for the evening. However, we were so satisfied and full from the previous 4 courses that we couldn't have eaten anything anyway. We look forward to going back. The restaurant was smaller than we expected and that made it a little difficult to have an intimate setting, however, the food and service made up for that. It was a very pleasurable New Years."

  • "We were very unhappy with our experience at Eighty3 for a number of reasons. First, we were not allowed to sit for our 9:30 reservations until 10:30. This put us still dining at midnight. Totally unacceptable. Secondly, our servce was poor. Waited at least 15 minutes before we were seen, drink orders were taken and then another 15 minutes before our food order was taken. They were out of what we ordered so after another 20 minutes we were finally able to order what we were going to receive because that's how long it took our server to inform us that what we had ordered was gone. Two of four meals were unsatisfying. Overall it was a terrible way to ring in 2014."

I was wooed by looking at menus online and seeing a decent wine list, along with options for beer and cocktails, but the real seller was the lengthy list of small plates / shareables. My wife and I love to try different stuff, so we were quite happy to split two small plates and then enjoy dessert. The service was great, as our waitress continually recommended items on the menu and was happy to point our her favorite things, as well as be honest when she had not tried something."

  • "We had never been here before and I wanted to give my grandaughter a "nice" meal before we went to the Orpheum. We walked in to a very small area w/LOUD music, could hardly hear one another talk and the waittress was so "soft spoken" near impossible to hear. It took so long to get our food , we almost missed the play time. The service was good and the food was excellent. However, this place was expensive and my grandaughter got two glasses 1/3 full of wine at $8 ea! Thanks but not again!"

  • "Went with six friends on Tuesday night. Not crowded...Service was extremely slow. Ordered oysters and they came so small that when we complained they sent additional orders 20 minutes later after everyone was finished. Wine was not available because it had not been chilled. Salads weren't dressed properly. Pity since this should be the default fine dining in Memphis. They lost 7 foodies that won't go back."

  • "I had the chicken wings, very crispy and a good sauce, could have used more heat for me. Shrimp and grits, too much sauce and the grits (grit cakes) were tasty but too chewy. Lastly, the dessert ROCKED!!!! I had the creme brulee, not only was it a unique presentation but the overall flavor was fantastic. It is my favorite dessert and I have had a lot of it over the years. This was in the top five best."

  • "I did not expect superior service when I booked a table for Thanksgiving. But I really could not believe just how bad it was - we did not get approached for at least 10 minutes after seated (and this is a restaurant that maybe holds 60), then waited another 10-15 minutes to give order off set menu, and then waited at least another 10 minutes before our bottle of wine was presented to us (chilled, set on the table without an ice bucket, and we ended up pouring our own after first glass). No manager walked around to check or apologize. The restaurant around the corner was far superior and cost less (off the regular menu). And btw, the main course had obviously been sitting for too long under the warmer and was dry and tough."
