Diner Reviews
  • "We went here pre-theater. The food was very good; some typical greek favorites, along with specials I.e. Bronzino. We were well satisfied with two appetizers and two entrees (for three of us). The waitress overheard that it was my birthday, and gave each of us a free dessert. This is a great, moderately-priced place to eat."

  • "The food was amazing, the service was great! Authentic, delicious Greek cuisine--Bring Your Own Bottle, 'cause they just serve water. We loved the atmosphere. We were seated in the second floor diningroom area and it got loud for a bit, but nothing too bad."

  • "Went for a pre-theater dinner and was reminded how good the food is. Nice selection, well-served - and my particular favorite Mediterranean fish, Dorade, prepared perfectly. Being a BYO makes this a really good value restaurant."

  • "The restaurant itself is a modest and bare bones café. But the service was homey, friendly and attentive. It was the food that really stood out. Fabulous. Not everything was as my grandmother made it or as it might be in a seaside Greek taverna - but it was just as good. I am half Greek, married a Greek and have spend a lot of time in Greece. If you can't be there. Go to Effie's. It is also very reasonably priced. Don't forget to bring your own wine. Best, T"

  • "The food was great, but our waitress was not. She was on her phone across the room the entire time and left us with no water. The people next to us came in after us and had a male waiter (whom I've had before and is wonderful). They ordered first and got their food first."

  • "If you go on a cold evening, ask for a table in the main dining area or upstairs, at least if you are readily chilled. The small room that is in the back of the restaurant, off of their courtyard, was too chilly for me on a 40 degree night, despite their wall mounted electric heater. The room was full and the double French style doors were frequently opening for the wait staff to take and deliver orders. The food and service were great, even on a night that was short staffed. We would go back on a warm night, and probably want to sit in the same area which was attractive in decor and coziness."

  • "It feels like you're entering someone's home, with an open kitchen and two dining floors crammed into a narrow townhouse. It's on a street corner so you do have the front and sides open to the street. Greek dishes - we had a whole fish and a lamb shank - were very good. The eggplant appetizer was spreadable on fresh and warm pita. Definitely recommended, but not what I'd call a "destination" restaurant (see Estia for that!)."

  • "Appetizers: ordered the hot appetizers for the table - each well made and beautifully spiced - dough crispy and the fillings rich They serve a good Malbec by the glass - goes well with this food. Main Courses: Lamb Shishkabab - cooked perfectly - Bulger Wheat and Red Cabbage Slaw accompanied - excellent Vegetarian Pizza was abundant and richly filled for one of my guests. No deserts ordered but those that passed our table looked delicious and I was told they are home-made. This restaurant is a find. the service is a little slow and a bit confused (language problems) - but they aim to please. All in all a delight."

  • "We had a great Valentine's Day weekend dinner here--the food was fantastic, but the service felt a little rushed. It really felt like they were trying to get rid of us..."

  • "We haven't been to Effies for a few years, and we tried it before theatre on a Sunday. It was still the same as before--starting to look a little old. Food was good, nothing fancy, but we knew that. There are so many other choices in the area, but for just good basic greek food it get's it done. Whole fish was great. Not overpriced, but not cheap.I would say fair value."

  • "We enjoyed a delicious meal, and chose " typical" dishes and one lamb special. Everything was a wonderful as we remembered experiencing in Greece. The wait staff were attentive and engaging. We plan to return in warmer weather when we can enjoy the patio. BYOB is a bonus!!!"

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant. It was cute and the food was outstanding. We went on NYE, so it was very busy and there were a lot of groups upstairs and outside - but we had excellent service. Would recommend again to anyone! Try this - it's great!"

  • "Loved the food! Great Byob. Definitely a wonderful choice on New Years Eve. They sat a very large group with us who was super loud, not their fault & they gave us free dessert as a result. You must order the Thessaloniki plate for an appetitizer! I loved the fish special also! Bring great wine & it's an awesome night!"

  • "Having just returned from Greece, we wanted to renew our experience of great Greek Food. From the soup to our entree we were not disappointed. Nice people run this place, attentive but aware when you want a quiet moment. This was not our first time at Eddie's and it certainly will not be our last."

  • "Surprisingly good Greek food. Flavorful, fresh and delicious. We shared the grilled feta and small salad as appetizers and both were excellent. The Makaronia pasta dish was spectacular and we will return for other dishes that sounded good."

  • "Loved Effie's - first time dining there. We were seated immediately, given a choice of inside or outside on the patio. We sat on the patio (four of us) - tried several of the appetizers, get the fried cheese, it's delicious! I had the fish special of the day which was a whole Dorado - with head and tail (which I just can't do), the chef made a fillet for me, no bones, no head and no tail! It was delicious. My husband had the Greek sausages which he said were delicious, our friends had the spicy shrimp and rice and the tilapia. Our server, who was fantastic and totally accommodating, forgot to put in an appetizer (which wasn't a big deal as we had so much food), but she sent out a complimentary dessert anyway. Will definitely be going back."

  • "We came to dinner here after the theater. We had the sampler app. It was good, standard hummus, feta, olives pepper, tzatziki and eggplant. Greek Salad for all- also good and standard. For entrees, we had, lamb chops, shrimp in pasta and broiled flounder. All were well prepared. The portions were medium- plenty of food without going overboard. The service was very good, quick and helpful. It is a BYOB so we brought our own wine. It keeps the prices down too. It was a nice time, we will come back."

  • "There's nothing trendy about Effie's. Just delicious food, served simply. You feel like the food could have come from a Greek grandmother's kitchen."

  • "This is a great hole in the wall restaurant with great greek food, fun owners, an aunt cooking in the back and a small restaurant experience. If I had a negative, which is not really, don't be in a hurry."

  • "We celebrated my birthday there. We went on a Sunday relatively late for dinner. It's a cosy small tavern style Greek restaurant. You should try the lamb. It's awesome! And the guy who served us was very kind and helpful."

  • "Haven't been to Effie's in 10 years. Food was great, servers were attentive and friendly. Sat in the front dining room which was loud and a little crowded. Not enough table space for 4 people with loads of plates. Free dessert on the house and one convert to Greek food. Yay! Will return again soon but request other seating."
