Diner Reviews
  • "The menu is a five course meal, with all courses a surprise to the customer. All courses use interesting ingredients and are delicious"

  • "Not for people who want to know exactly what they want to eat. We loved that every course was a total surprise as the menu is chosen by the chef and you don't see it ahead of time. Every course was delicious and just enough to be satisfying without feeling stuffed. The dessert was light and sublime and we received a bonus dessert of Baba cake soaked in syrup and rum which was so light and airy we couldn't stop eating it. Highly recommend this lovely, intimate, candle-lit gem of a bistro."

  • "My friends and I had a perfect Sunday afternoon indulging in the homey, creative, and not-over curated dishes on the prix fixe, and enjoying the half-off of bottles on the diverse and well deliberated wine list. Warm service, and best of all, no feeling pushed to make room for the next set of diners. Edulis at sunday lunch understands what most trendy Toronto restaurants do not: that TIME is a key factor in dining. The ability to cozily spread out a meal over a few hours is actually as important as the spread itself."

  • "The prix fixes, featuring various proteins, are varied, interesting and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly, making the overall experience terrific."

  • "Just enjoyed the 7 course dinner at Edulis. The service was excellent and the food was prepared with so much love it made your heart ache."

  • "I had the 5 course tasting menu and enjoyed the first 3 items. However, I did not like the tonka pudding or the dish with the pork belly that came before it."

  • "Unique combinations of food were an absolute pleasure to the palate. We had only the 5 courses, but all of them were absolutely divine! We would definitely go back. Staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Service was excellent."

  • "I've been to a few other tasting menus in Toronto and Edulis is the best for overall taste, presentation and value. The flavours in every dish were so perfectly blended. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Presentation was very good. Definitely worth the reservation wait."

  • "Had the tasting menu. Flavour profile was very limited. Flavours often muddled."

  • "If you do not plan to try Truffle and not prepare to spent $150 per person and with big tips Don't go! or you will be look down stare down by the staff! I was disappointed with the dessert and my partner and I had an argument over feeling out of place cause we chose the $70 course rather than $150! So I gave a average tip and she stared right down at my face! And never bring my coat from coat check until we ran after her and waited! I rather spent my money somewhere else!"

  • "Overall great experience. Did the 7 course tasting menu (x2), glass of white each, bottle of red, the cheese special, 2 espressos. Neagtives: first course was a sashimi plate - was overdressed, too much acid. fish courses were not in a palate pleasing order. (too acidic, then too salty, then not seasoned enough) palate cleanser should have been offered. should be a wine paring option Positives: lamb course was amazing good wine list cheese special was great"

  • "I was really excited to try the tasting menu at Edulis and was thoroughly disappointed with the food and service. We waited at our table (in a tiny restaurant) for twenty minutes to order drinks and I eventually had to call someone over to take our order. We felt like our server had forgot about our table all evening. The server and the hostess just had terrible attitudes and it made the evening very unpleasant for everyone at our table. I would never go back to this restaurant again."

  • "Went to the Sunday lunch and it was amazing. Two couples, spent the whole afternoon enjoying the food, wine and ambience. Each course was experiential providing ample for all of us. Loved that it was not plated and each guest could choose what they did or didn't want. Just like Sunday lunch at home, except we could concentrate on entertaining and not cooking, cleaning, worrying. The half price wine is also a very neat idea for a long leisurely Sunday lunch."

  • "It's been a while since I've enjoyed a carte blanche menu, and the experience was fantastic. We had the $70 (larger) option that night, and the food was delicious, flavourful and yet very light, so that, despite feeling fully satisfied at the end, we were not bloated. Would like to see a greater selection of wine on the menu, but otherwise, a perfect night."

  • "After the high expectations and the endless wait (months) for a reservation, I was very let down by what I found to be a mediocre meal at best. Every course had the same presentation, was served lukewarm, long waits between courses, uncomfortable seating. The food was not memorable. The evening was a wash, and I will not be returning."

  • "The brunch lured me in and the dinner sealed the deal. Would recommend using Open Table to book in advance as the place is intimate and tables fully reserved. The chef does a super job keeping the diner satisfied, with palate teasers to start and moving through a variety of solid chef plates based on local ingredients used in all preparations. Bottles of wine during brunch at half price!"

  • "Not for lack of effort and imagination, but a tasting menu just doesn't seem to fit with a vegetarian diet."

  • "Great food, great service, small but warm and cozy environment. Long wait times between courses, but the quality of foods make up for it. Highly recommend."

  • "Great in all aspects. Only thing I would change is how loud the speakers are in the place in the wrong spots."

  • "Despite being heralded as one of the top 10 restos, our 7 course tasting menu was okay. Maybe if it hadn't been hyped as much as it had been or gotten such rave reviews, I would not have expected much. However I can't overlook, at any place, serving tepid broth in 2 courses. Also 3 of the 4 diners received undercooked fish that had flabby skin. The dessert was fantastic and our server amazing. He constantly made sure our bread basket was filled (important because there were long gaps between our courses at a time the restaurant was less than 1/2 full) . We were placed at the back of the resto, right behind the washroom and the serving station. Not the most appetizing site."

  • "I was looking for a special place to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. I came across Edulis on the Toronto Life website of Top 10 Restaurants for 2013, so thought I would give it a try. They exceeded my expectations. The food was inspired. We chose the 7 course tasting menu. The sauces for each course were savoury and the flavour combinations were quite complex. We topped it off with an amazing cheese course. The service was very attentive, friendly, and interactive. We felt like we were family. I would highly recommend Edulis for a special occasion."

  • "We came here for our anniversary and what a perfect spot!! The attention we received was wonderful, each dish was succulent and unique. This is great for foodies and people who are OK with the chef selecting your lovely courses. It's my new favourite spot!"

  • "I've heard so many good things about Edulis so I was very excited to give it a shot. The 5 course tasting menu was the perfect amount of food but when I saw the octopus dish coming out to another table that did the 7 course, I wished I had also done the 7 course! Food was beautifully presented and executed. Service was very good. Already planning my next visit!"

  • "I had never heard of some of these animals. They were fairly ok."

  • "Perhaps it's a matter of expectations, but it did not live up to the reviews. Many of the dishes were far too mellow/bland or disjointed. Dishes where there very interesting flavour and texture combinations being described, but the actual taste was usually not complimentary. It never popped. That being said, it's ok for the value, being a relatively value contious tasting menu."

  • "A great way to spend Sunday... Eating yummy ... What they want to cook, feeling like maybe more wine is good cause it is half price. Loving all the time you can spend gabbing"

  • "I love this restaurant. I made reservations a few weeks ahead and heard such wonderful things about Edulis. I wasn't disappointed. The price point is great for the food you get (compared to other restaurants in the city), the flavours are wonderful, and the service was excellent. I will definitely return."

  • "Somehow I was unaware of this little gem in the King West neighborhood where the food is exceptional and the ambience very welcoming. We were happily surprised by the home style service which kept the courses interesting and interactive. Very excited to try the dinner option after sharing a delicious brunch. We will be back~!"

  • "A very well-structured "carte blanche" seven-course meal, full of flavours ranging from fresh and tangy to rich and earthy. Best were the scallop, Portuguese giant squid and hare tourtiere. Dessert was the only stumble: the popcorn meringue was interesting, but there were hard, unpopped kernels in mine, hazardous to teeth. The service was professional but very friendly. This place has earned its reputation. My one complaint: if you book a 6pm reservation on a night when it's below -20, and you can see them waiting outside at five to six, let them in. You should be ready to open your doors ten minutes before your 6pm opening, or book your first table at 6:15. Don't make us freeze while we ogle your lovely, warm dining room."

  • "The restaurant ambiance is quaint and comfortable and the service is fantastic. The food was easily the disappointment. Scallops crudo - a delightful dish normally - had raw cucumber and a pretty boring herb au jus. The mackerel was well-flavoured but overcooked. The hare and mushroom pie was the most delicious course, but still fairly bland. The main course was bordering unenjoyable to eat - a big pot of wet rice with quail: the rice was over-cooked and lacked spice or noticable flavour. The quail had too much skin on which became gooey in the rice, and quail has so many little bones that made finding the meat frustrating. Overall the restaurant is beautifully set up and run, but the main event - the food - was pretty disappointing."

  • "One of the best meals I've had in Toronto. The seven course tasting menu was absolutely spot on - every dish was interesting, well executed, and tasted divine. The service was professional and friendly. Ambiance is also terrific - you could hear the tables around us who were also clearly having a fabulous dining experiences, but the noise was not overpowering. I can't wait to return for lunch."

  • "We enjoyed the 7 course progression and each course seemd to somehow top the last. The mix of great seafood and meats never felt repetitive and satisifed on their own. The service was impeccable as well."

  • "the menu is decided by the chef--you have no input at all---okay for the surprise of it all--not okay for the richness of all the pre decided entrees!!..they were all delicious I might add---but just too much for me..overall a pleasant surprise dinner menu--can't return there again--I like to choose my dinner after all-"

  • "Edulis is one of the few places I've been in Toronto that provides you with a dining experience. You get tastes of multiple smaller dishes, and all items that you get are a surprise before. The taste of the food is good. Can improve on presentation and getting the tastes even more sophisticated for the fine dining experience. Service is very good. Main downside is that it's really expensive."
