We traveled up to Tampa from Sarasota to try this restaurant. Fun and energetic atmosphere near the University of Tampa. The food was really outstanding. Had the foie gras, and my partner had the steak tartare, for starters. Both were noteworthy. We consider ourselves foodies and try anything. Outside of NYC I haven't had food this great all year.

I had read reviews that had bashed the service - I have to say that was the least of my problems with Edison. The service was right on - our server, Carissa, was great - great timing with our dishes we chose to have a number of starters in lieu of an entree. The food was OK, I wanted it to be better than it was, the spice level was pretty high. The Edison chowder that we thought had a hint of serrano may have had an entire serrano pepper in the cup of broth that was served. We ordered six dishes, all were good - the dessert was the best (Butterscotch pudding); I enjoyed the fried green tomato salad but again, whatever the tomato was crusted in had some spice to it. The drinks saved the night try the Smashed Rickey, you won't be sorry

It was so hard to choose what to order because it all looked so good. To die for were the prosciutto wrapped zeppoles. The bartenders are amazing at their craft, combining the best ingredients for a drink you can really enjoy. The flavor combinations by the chef are amazing. The place is small so definitely make a reservation. It was a bit loud so if a romantic first date is what you are looking for I would come back when you are looking for an upbeat and fun experience.

We enjoy the variety of food (always changing) and the quality is great. Not a traditonal menu but always something for everyone. Good wine selections by the glass, flask, or bottle. Weekends are crowded and noisy and need reservations. The staff is wonderful and always eager to please if something is not right. Valet parking on side street next to restaurant ($3). We go here almost weekly.

super-satisfied dinner here - we were in the Tampa area recently for vacation and booked solely on internet reviews. The menu was short, but full of intriguing dishes. We enjoyed everything that we ordered - all dishes were delicious and well-plated. The portions were generous - particularly with the upscale chicken & waffle interpretation. The service was friendly without being obtrusive. We'll return next time we're in the area!

I visited Edison for the second time in two weeks. The service was great this time (big improvement over last visit) and the food proved to be consistently delicious. We tried the escargot to start: the bread was toasted perfectly and included just the right amount of sauce to blend nicely with the escargot. For dinner I had the tuna tartare tabbouleh: a really interesting idea and it turned out great! Partially deconstructed, with two slices of heirloom tomato and a new addition of good quality olives, all of the flavors blended well together. My dining companion had the vegetarian plate. She said it was delicious. It certainly looked that way! We had the butter cake for dessert. It was definitely worth the splurge!

Menu varies seasonally. Any desserts that have the Valrona chocolate mousse are going to be great. The steak was good but uses truffle oil versus fresh truffles on the gnocchi, chicken and waffles were really good, shrimp and grits are outstanding, fish tacos are excellent and the sauces are dynamite! The buratta was really good (just ok if you have had the real thing in Italy) and the same deal for the prosciutto which needs to be sliced thinner.

First time dining at Edison and wasn't impressed. Ambiance was nice but the food was just ok and overpriced. A $19 soft shell crab app should be perfection, not under seasoned and greasy. My jerk chicken and waffles was ok. It was moist but the breading was falling off and not worth the price tag. The collards were by far the best part. I did not care for the shrimp and grits; the cumin was overpowering. There seemed to be 2 servers handling all the tables which left something to be desired for service also. I don't plan to return.

We love this restaurant, and have had quite a few fabulous meals here. The menu of the day this time wasn't as appealing as it has been on all of our other visits, nor was the food quite as good. One of the "sparks" we had, a savory doughnut, even arrived uncooked in the middle. This was taken care of gracefully, but it had been the one exciting appetizer we'd ordered, so was disappointing.

Good service, but forgot our appetizer and dessert. The waitress charged us for a $20 cheese board we never got (I didn't realize until I got home) and when I asked for an extra scoop of ice cream, the waitress charged me for a nearly $10 dessert of 3 scoops of ice cream (after we already spent over $100 on drinks, apps, entrees, desserts). My duck entree was overcooked as well. Wouldn't go again.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the entire world. The vibe, the service and the food are all beyond fantastic! If it weren't so loud in there it would be my absolute favorite place, instead of a little further down on the list. The Buffalo cauliflower was different and delicious, as were both the crab and oh my god, the fried green tomato salad was unbelievably good. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we had the butterscotch pudding for dessert. For the love of god, please order this amazing delight. Chef Jeannie, you are an eater's dream and delight.

My husband and I don't often travel to Tampa from St. Petersburg for dinner, but we had talked about going to Edison for awhile and the opportunity came up to go. It was definitely worth the drive. The drink menu was impressive and tasty. The food was well executed, and ranges from super fresh and simple to gastronomically complex - all delicious. The wine was thoughtful, and had many lesser known grapes, vintages, and producers. Overall quite a good time!

I dined at Edison with a friend to celebrate our birthdays. The atmosphere is modern and trendy, but not stuffy. We started with buffalo cauliflower-try it! The buffalo sauce was flavorful and not burn-your-mouth-out fiery, and there was just enough coating. The cauliflower was crisp tender, and the garnishes added the right umami elements. For dinner, I chose the maine lobster. I mixed all ingredients on the plate, as instructed by our server-delicious! The soft lobster blended well with crisp green beans. The risotto was soft and included some rough chopped nuts for texture. Yum! Service was poor: inattentive server, overbearing busboy ("are you finished yet?" multiple times), but the food made up for it. I will definitely return!

After reading the reviews & ratings, we were very disappointed. We went with another couple to celebrate 2 birthdays. My husband and I ordered 2 small plates & 1 entrée to share. The buffalo cauliflower was tasteless unless dipped in the blue cheese dressing which made it just palatable. We also had the steak tartare & bone marrow combo which was the best part of the dinner. We split the shrimp and grits which were bland & probably the worst I've had. My husband rated them a little better but not much. Our friends had the scallops & vegetarian plate. No comment either way on the scallops, so probably average but the vegetarian plate drew praise. Did not complain because dining with guests. Will not return or recommend to others.

We waited more than half an hour past our reservation time. I ordered a whiskey sour and paid 11 $ for a glass of sour mix, so we all had water with our dinner. While the food was mostly excellent, it was incredibly over-priced. One at our table ordered the Maine lobster (it was tough) that came charged 4 $ more than on the menu - explanation was that earlier in the evening it included something else and they forgot to change back the price. Really? The "something else" wasn't on the menu - how many more guests paid the 4$ "surcharge" without noticing? Add to that, we originally chose this restaurant based on the online menu - HUGE difference in prices once we arrived there. We felt set up - not going to return.

Travel for work a lot. Found Edison on Open Table. Eclectic, well-prepared, and beautifully presented meal! Roasted Bone Marrow with Steak Tartare was a highlight, as well as the Escargot Crostini! red Snapper Masala was perfectly prepared! The cocktail menu and liquor choices are refreshing and imaginative! The service by the entire staff was quick, unobtrusive, and very helpful! My only minor complaint is the acoustics of the restaurant. It can be very loud with a small amount of people present. I look forward to returning here next time I'm in Tampa!

Food was extremely disappointing, not even all that creative, and even worse poorly executed for the most part. Two of 5 courses were enjoyable, one of them being dessert. When I got the check I almost fell off my chair. They're charging three star Manhattan prices and serving little more than one star food. The service was decent, but nothing special. Cocktails were yum, but very small. Drink pairings were hit or miss. Cheese course was terrible, old dried up Manchego, as if that's very special. The cook was also wandering around outside smoking cigarettes, seriously?! I would never go back, Edison is amateur hour.

The hot and cold starters were all layered with texture and flavor. Our service was excellent. The food came out quickly, so you might want to pace ordering if you like a more leisurely experience. Wines were well priced, and it's to be offered half-bottles. The back booth tables are the quietest. Overall very enjoyable experience.

I have wanted to try The Edison for over a year and was excited to take my wife here. The Edison has potential to be great, but unfair pricing, a confused culinary, identity, and snooty waitresses are ruining the restaurant. Many menu prices were grossly overpriced. I wanted to try the harrisa fries ($14.00) or the waffle chicken ($28.00). Why sell comfort food at uncomfortable prices? Lastly, the service is Edison's biggest downfall. Possibly upset because we did not order entrées, the waitress threw a dessert menu on our table and knocked my knife down.
