A word from Edi and The Wolf
Edi & The Wolf is the East Village spinoff from Michelin Starred Chefs Eduard Frauneder and Wolf Ban. Inspired by the traditional eastern Austrian wine tavern known as a Heuriger, the rustic establishment boasts a cozy dining room and an outdoor garden area ideal for dates, group dinners, brunches, and everything in between. The rustic decor is balanced with impeccably prepared dishes, resembling fine dining in this casual spot. In addition to an extensive Austrian wine collection, the restaurant also boasts classic comfort dishes like Schnitzel and Spaetzle as well as new spins on traditional Austrian fare.

We had an outstanding meal The Vienna Schnitzel was absolutely delicious and not greasy at all. My son loved the trout which was prepared perfectly. The 4 of us shared the octopus and beet salad for starters and they were amazing. We all shared a dessert which was just ok but the coffee was perfect. Our waitress was amazing, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go there again on my next visit to NY

Fun to have quality food and great theatrical ambiance in an offbeat neighborhood. Wish the cappaccino had been served hot and that when I asked the busboy to fix the problem, that he gave me an honest answer on his return- that he had just heated it and added a swirl of milk, instead of saying he made fresh one. The reason is that both of us had already added sugar to the first, so thinking it was a fresh cup, we added more, which was too much. It was a buzzkill to make a fuss about it; since all we ordered was a plate of eggs and cup of hot coffee, it was half the experience. I still rate them highly because the food was good and the ambiance really cool.

Hidden on ave C this resturant is a condensed menu of Austrian/german goodness. Small wine list but the italian wine from Tuscany is great. The cocktails are strong and energetic. We recommend the spartzel and schnitzel with veal. Portions are small BUT hearty so don't over order although you may want to

My friends and I had a great time celebrating my birthday last week at Edi and the Wolf. They were very accommodating of such a large group and took great care of us. The only complaint we had was the back yard "room" was extremely quiet with no speakers for the music that was playing inside. The atmosphere is one if the reasons I live this restaurant and compared to the inside dining room, the back room really loses the restaurant's lively vibe.

The restaurant has no visible sign but you won't miss it because it looks like the coolest joint on the block. It's rustic looking, lots of plants creating a sense of privacy even thought the front of the restaurant is a big garage door that's wide open during summer months. It's low key, friendly service, somewhere people can go and unwind. Food is good but I don't like the whites I had (Edi and the Wolf, Cuvee and Sauvignon Blanc, both from Austria). Maybe I should just order a beer...

The bad wolf was at the stove the night we ate at Edi and the Wolf. Roasted cauliflower was on the edge of burnt. Skin on trout was soggy, while the accompanying grains were undercooked. Schnitzel was passable thanks to sides. Goldilocks beware!

We had a reservation at 7:15 and got seated immediately when 2 of us arrived and our friends joined in later. The service was excellent. I dont remember the name of the server but she was very nice and heplful. After dinner, it was sweet of her to get a cheese platter(dessert) with a candle on it for my friend. Foodwise, its on the pricey side, very little portion and not a lot to choose from. The cauliflower was too salty.I however enjoyed the Spatzle. For drinks, my friends enjoyed their cocktails and I stuck to Chianti wine which the waitress suggested and I liked it. To sum it up, we all loved the decor, ambience and had a very good night. And maybe ill even come back and try their brunch menu .

I love the rustic design of this restaurant, from the plants and rusted ironwork outside to the industrial look inside. It feels very comfortable, too. You want to stay and talk. There is music but usually not so loud that you can't have a conversation (which is unusual these days in "hip" New York restaurants. We've eaten here about six times now and the food is consistently good. Our favorite appetizer is the flatbread "mit schmeck" (which is like bacon). I love the wiener schnitzel (the pork version), which comes with delicious potato and cucumber salads. The short ribs are also very good. We've tasted a couple of the desserts and they're excellent, but I wish they'd put something chocolate on the dessert menu.

Upon entering, manager told us for two people we needed to sit in the center "communal" table. I asked about the back patio? Nope, bridal shower happening/private party. We sat at the bar. Service was good at first, but then...they bought out the wrong food. We ordered a side of french fries so they left those, by the time our correct orders were brought back to us, fries were cold. Our water and drink glasses were empty and bartender asked if she could make us another drink. yes please. Nope! Never saw her again and we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to even acknowledge us. Bartender came back and asks us if she could make us a drink. We declined. Manager said he was sorry but did not offer to comp drinks or cold fries. Sad!

I absolutely loved our cocktails and the outdoor/indoor feeling of the place - it's really special and different and all those good adjectives. I would absolutely recommend someone go here for a short drinks-only date. Food was underwhelming - portions were tiny, prices were really high and the taste was ok but nothing to write home about.

I've been to Edi and the Wolf several times & have always had a wonderful experience-- great food, really nice ambience. Never even noticed the music there before; however, this past time was incredibly loud and the music was awful. We walked in to 'Welcome to the Jungle' playing. Seriously?! It was downhill from there- 'What is Love' (yes, Night at the Roxbury style) was the low point. Meal was great & service was too-- besides the fact that we asked the music be turned down so we could hear each other talk and it never happened. Really put a damper on an otherwise great experience. Don't know many people who enjoy dining to bad 80s music blasting...besides drunken sorority girls. You can do better guys!

Really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Edi and The Wolf. The ambiance is lovely, the service was great (the server saved me from ordering a glass of rosé that she told me was extremely sweet, which I would've hated!). But the food was so-so. The grilled octopus was delicious, but our entées (pork belly & schnitzel) were only ok. Overall I would go back for drinks and apps, but maybe not dinner.

I have been to Edi & the Wolf on at least half a dozen occasions including for a group dinner I organized. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is lovely. It has been top of my list of East Village neighborhood spots. This past Wednesday despite it being a slow night and uncrowded, the service was very bad. The waitress who took our order was absolutely lovely but everything else was a complete shambles. There were simple misses - we had to make repeated requests for simple things like cutlery, salt and pepper and water. There were bigger misses - entrees came out before appetizers and then appetizers came out with side dishes. But the worst part was that the server and the woman helping him were hostile and unapologetic.

We went to Edi and the Wolf for Sunday brunch and truly enjoyed ourselves. With an 11:30 a.m. reservation we were the second table seated, before a party of 20 arrived. Prices $16 per person including a substantial entree, coffee, and orange juice, were quite reasonable. We enjoyed our frittata and Kaiserschmarrn (an Austrian caramelized shredded pancake with apple) immensely. We will be back!

Definitely worth the walk over the Alphabet City! I love all the dishes here but the new mushroom tagliatelle is so rich and delicious it might be the new favorite. Portion sizes won't leave you disappointed and the wait staff are attentive. All of my friends that I've brought here love the warm and rustic decor. The busiest and most crowded nights are Friday and Saturday, especially once it gets warmer, so definitely make a reservation if you plan on dining either of those nights. There's also a giant projector screen that's great for sporting events, Oscar night, and even New Year's Eve. If you come here definitely try: Austrian wine, tagliatelle, gnocchi, brussel sprouts, wolf burger & kaiserschmarrn (brunch), & porkbelly sliders.
