Edgewood RestaurantMother's Day 2013The food is somewhat inconsistent from what our expectations are at this price level. For example my husband had a filet mignon which was accompanied by slightly over-cooked broccolini. I usually order the Seared Ahi entrée and it is consistently fabulous. We had a 7:30 reservation, when we arrived the hostess said you must be "....................." Calling me by name , a very pleasant welcome. We were seated by a window, as I had requested on Open Table.

We were not disappointed. Our servers were well informed and friendly. The appetizer (sushi) and main courses (Elk for me and salmon for my husband) were just delicious and picked from a wonderfully eclectic menu. Our server even brought out a slice of birthday cake for my husband. We enjoyed that with our espresso. I should also say that there isn't a bad seat in the house, and the views of Lake Tahoe are not to be missed. We arrived slightly early and were given our choice of having a decent-view table, or waiting five minutes for a better-view table. We chose the latter and went to the bar to wait. My girlfriend and I ordered a drink each and enjoyed the assorted nuts at the bar (the actual nuts not the bar patron's). The table had a great view of Lake Tahoe at sunset, and the the service was excellent. The food arrived fairly quickly. The presentation was wonderful and the food quite tasty. My girlfriend had the french onion and a beet salad. I enjoyed a Caesar salad and the rib eye. Very delicious, all of it. We were even asked to assist in singing "Happy Birthday" to another couple. We love going for special occassions when we visit Lake Tahoe. The food is alway delicious and made to order. The service is always good and the servers are friendly and enjoy having conversations with you. The view over Lake Tahoe to the Sierra Nevada mountains may be the best reason to enjoy the food at Edgewood - but the food isn't far behind. As stunning as the vistas are, the plates are just as good. The staff are as professional as you can get and yet 'neighborhood' friendly. Attentiveness was perfect not intrusive. The food was out of this world. The grilled sea bass melted in your mouth it was so delicious and moist, thick and grilled to perfection. Rack of lamb was the perfect red and so very tender and yummy. The server Debbie suggested a little more than pink was great for the lamb and she was right. Desserts were so yummy and Debbie even brought a second dessert to apologize for forgetting we were celebrating a birthday. The view, with clouds and the setting sun, reminded us of the Inside Passage in Alaska. This is not the first time we were at the Edgewood. Will definitely be back more often. This time the food and service were stellar. The issue was the noise. Just before we were served dinner there was a very large party of 10-12 adults and the same amount of small children. The kids were out of control and screaming and crying. The parents did little to quiet them dowwn or take them out of there. they upset the entire dining room and ruined the special dining experience that Edgewood is famous for. The adults were just a loud and they were speakinng in a foreign language. there was a couple across the dinning room of simlilar decent and they were yelling across the room to each other.

Lake Tahoe for 27 yrs with my annual TBSC timeshare and this was my first time eating at the Edgewood Restaurant. This was the most beautiful and scenic restuaurant in S. Lake Tahoe that I've seen. The waiting area by the bar is spacious and comfortable. I had their special rib-eye steak and it was cooked to perfection (medium). My wife had the rack of lamb and it was excellent. My friend had the sea bass which I tasted and we both agreed It tasted superb. I traded half my rib-eye for half of his sea bass so we both could have our surf and turf dinner! We were able to get a reservation on the same day 8 people. The view was unmatched and the theater seating definitely made the most of the view. We went there slightly before sunset so it was almost a bit too sunny at first but then, once the sun set, it was so amazing. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. The wine list was fairly extensive. Our bartender had raved about the salmon dish so I ordered that and it definitely lived up to expectations. We all shared and everything I tasted was excellent. We had one child with us and there was only one option for kids. Fantastic interior space and ambiance, beautifully prepared food and a very reasonable wine markup, less than double retail for a good spectrum, white and red. Winner of the evening was the 'crab hash' under salmon filet, but swordfish also very good. Soups and salads fresh and tasty. Bourbon Creme Brulee also excellent for dessert. Service was not as good as on our 3 prior visits, however; I think they were learning and simply did not know how to schmooze. Presumably that is temporary.
