Happy Anniversary card and rose petals on the table. Our waiter greeted us with two glasses of champagne. ! We started with the Calamari that had great presentation and taste! Then on to their Lobster Bisque. My wife opted for their Pan Seared Scallops that were perfectly cooked. I chose their Halibut that was very tasty along with the sauce. Finally, Eddie V's staff surprised us with Banana Foster with rum butter cake/butter pecan ice cream. On the plate they wrote "20 20 20 20 Amazing" in chocolate syrup. The dessert tasted great just as the rest of the meal. I cannot say enough about our extraordinary evening!! They gave her a card that all the servers signed. That was a nice touch. The food was awesome as usual. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. From the hostess to all servers they all wished her happy birthday and treated us VERY well. Five people ordered five different appetizers and entrees and all were thrilled with the quality and taste of the each dish. Our waiter was superb; he knew 100% of the details of each dish and made our choices extremely tough. Not only was he articulate, but very knowledgeable of the food he was serving. That makes a huge difference to diners when choosing from a menu. He was spot on and our evening was really a ten plus. Eddie V's is a "go to" restaurant in San Diego for us.
Two birthdays were celebrated and the desserts presented for our table were superb. We had a wonderful, very professional waiter that was attentive yet not intrusive. His suggestions were spot on. A few minor slips kept the food rating from being higher. TOO MUCH hot chile oil spoiled a beautiful tuna tartare and the wine list needs more lower priced options. It was a first time visit on a friend's recommendation for an anniversary date. Good wine list, the sole was the best I have had, and the bananas foster was a very good end to the meal. Everything was so good I really over ate. The real reason for the review however is the outstanding service we received. From the hostess to the waiter to the manager, everyone went out of their way to make this night so special. Eddie V's made a special effort to have us at a view table overlooking the ocean. The staff was marvelous from the front desk to the waiter to the busboy who had to adjust the temperature on the portable heater. Really great attention to service. Everything was very fresh with gret flavors, nothing overly complex. The Crab Fried Rice is the best side dish on the menu. I had the filet Oscar which was the right size portion with plenty of crab, it was not overly sauced so you can really taste how the crab and meat compliment each other. For desert you have to have the Bannana's Foster, with out a doubt, one of the best I ever had! This is my third visit, and I must say Eddie V's has been consistently outstanding each time. When you put together every aspect of a great dining experience, Eddie V's has it. The view of the Pacific is beautiful, the service is very professional and top notch, what you would expect in a very high end restaurant. The food, of course, is delicious. The sole is to die for. The prices are reasonable for San Diego. My only negative comment would be the wine list. They need more interesting moderate priced wines. Most that were moderately priced are found at your local Vons. I have been to this restaurant before. They take good care of you on the service side though the Saturday night I was there was a bit slower. Maybe that's because I'm used to turn and burn joints. It is just over a year old and the decor is modern and upscale. There are multiple levels including outdoor dining as well as indoor. Most tables (except in the bar area) have a view. There is an intimate area around a fireplace (no view) which looks like a nice setting for a romantic dinner (without the view). Servers are attentive, the hosts were friendly and the manager checks to ensure a satisfactory experience. The food--the best we had during a week of dining in La Jolla! A steak (NY strip) was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and would compare favorably with any steakhouse. Lobster bisque is excellent, crab and corn chowder fantastic, Asian style calamari is flavorful and plentiful. The new salad with mushroom and warm goat cheese is really delicious. The sole, sea bass and halibut were excellent - really prepared nicely. Desserts were also yummy. This restaurant exceeds expectations in all areas. It was so good, we dined here two nights in a row and tried different items. Steak quality is the best in LJ, cooked perfectly. The restaurant boasts an incredible view of La Jolla Cove and the coastline. A window seat is best, but honestly, the way the dining room is configured, all tables will enjoy the view. Service is outstanding, we thoroughly enjoyed dining with Paul as our server. Oysters are fresh, lobster taco's amazing, steaks are cooked to perfection. We especially love the sides menu options. The crab mushroom rice is incredible!!! Beets and brussel sprouts are tasty. Fries are cooked perfectly, no soggy potatoes served here thank you very much.
