Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of the best dinners I have had from beginning to end. The lobster tacos are to die for! The service is top notch. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "We selected this for our 15th Anniversary restaurant based on existing ratings. It did not disappoint! The food and the service was spectacular -- these are real trained waiters, not just schmoes thrown into the job. We could not have had a better experience. Our waiter Geoffrey knew our names, that is was our anniversary, and even had rose petals on our table. So special. He was a great waiter. The ambiance is very intimate -- whether a romantic couple or a group of good friends. We had the crab crake (awesome). Raw oysters which eclipsed the ones we had over at Shaw's oyster bar for lunch. The South African lobster tails, they were so divine. The bananas foster dessert cake -- words don't do it justice. Just order it, trust me. Enjoy!!"

  • "I made a reservation under opentable for 2 with no problems. It was my first time trying this restaurant and I am not a food critic but I love eating. The food was amazing, we ordered the ahi tuna tartare appetizer, I had the sole and my date had the swordfish steak. Timely and warm and we finished every bite. The server Taylor was welcoming and even knew my name due to the reservation, very knowledgeable about menu, wines, and pairings and he gave a great recommendation. The live music was great but I wish we could hear it a little better since we were separated by a wall. I also wished we could have been seated at a two person booth instead of a four person table to be a little more romantic, be sure to specify in the notes!"

  • "There were 5 of us and 4 of us ate different types of fish (Sole, Chilean Sea Bass, Tuna and Red Fish(2) )- and they were all very good. Very fresh. Portions are large. Sides where good. Waitress was very nice and friendly."
    Dined on 8/22/2014
  • "So here is the good: The staff acknowledged that it was my husband's bday. Waiter was polite and efficient. They gave my husband a free dessert for his bday. We appreciated that. Good band but too loud to sit close, so we were seated in the main dining room. Place is new, so the decor is chic and aesthetically pleasing. Nice for a romantic night out. Now for the so-so: The food, mehhh. Red fish was bland. Jumbo stuffed shrimp pretty good. Crab fried rice was just ok. Lobster bisque had a few pieces of lobster in it (love that), but the taste was just lacking. Not sure. Maybe we just got the wrong things on the wrong night. While this review was not a great promo, I would still say try it out for yourself."

  • "Went for my bday was wonderful. Chilean sea bass melts in your mouth. Service fabulous"

  • "Halibut is amazing! and so is the bananas foster cake. Would definitely go again if only for these -- and everything else was great too!"
    Dined on 8/19/2014
  • "I love seafood and this was exactly what I was craving. Oysters were great and so was the sea bass. Not the cheapest, but it's seafood so it's not something you want to do on the cheap. I was late for my reservation, when I called to ask if I could push it back, they were really accomodating !"

  • "Took my 25 yrs old daughter for her birthday and they treated us like celebrities. Staff was friendly, accommodating and great service. I would recommend for special occasions."

  • "We were visiting from out of town and found this restaurant on Open Table. The service was fantastic, the food even better... They had live Jazz which was great! I highly recommend the bananas foster butter cake for dessert! WE will definitely eat here again when we are in Chicago!"

  • "Visiting from Australia, found the restaurant on Yelp and thought we would try it. Very nice food and the service was impeccable. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and the food prices were reasonable. I would recommend this to our friends."

  • " Dined on 8/16/14 around 9pm. Bryan S. was our server, he was professional, knowledgeable, personable and did not rush anything. Special thanks for making our experience *that* much better. We had the Caymus Cab, 1/2 dozen oysters, Yellowtail Sashimi, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. All were fresh, flavorful, delicious, and beautiful. We split the 1lb Lobster (to die for!!) with sides of Broccolini and Truffled Mac and Cheese. Did not order dessert, but were pleasantly surprised to be presented with the Bananas Foster. Do yourself a favor: get it. Delish. As industry professionals (I am a pastry chef/ he is a chef/restaurant owner) we appreciate a truly exceptional experience. We are looking forward to coming back on our next trip to Chicago!"

  • "The food was out of this world and I am a huge foodie! The halibut was cooked to perfection and the truffled Mac and cheese was the best I've ever had. Ended with an amazing bananas foster brûlée to perfection! Highly recommend!!"

  • "We enjoyed Eddie V's so much the last time we were in Chicago that we decided to go back and we weren't disappointed. The bar is fun, the food was so good! and the service, once again was excellent. There was a bit of a delay with our entree. Both the manager and our server stopped over to apologize and were generous in their effort to make it right. Much appreciated. Our entrees were definitely worth the wait! I couldn't decide between the scallops and the shrimp so our server, Jessica, suggested I get half order of both. Perfect! Both were delicious. My husband is a steak guy and his ribeye did not disappoint. He said it was a definite do-over. Eddie V's has quickly become one of our very favorites steak/seafood places in Chicago."

  • "The 4 of us went to celebrate being in Chicago together and had a perfect time. Starters included the crab cake (full of crab and very light on breading--excellent), salads -the BLT wedge and Fuji apple also great. Main courses were the Halibut (the star of the night), the grouper and lemon sole-both well prepared and a special of filet of beef with crab--perfectly done. A side of truffle mac and cheese was a killer but the finishing touch was a dessert of bananas foster--large enough to split 4 ways. Great food and great service."

  • "This place is simply special. The service is fantastic, the decor is fabulous, the wine list is insane, and the food is awesome. And they had the stones to build it across the street from Joe's. That takes guts. 2nd time there since they opened a few weeks back. Can't wait to return."

  • "An old friend was in town and I was looking for a new place to meet for dinner. I picked Eddie V's from Open Table based on reviews and was certainly not disappointed. We had eaten at Joe's, right across the street 2 nights prior, and although I've been to Joe's numerous times with great results, I wanted something different. The food was wonderful. Every detail was perfect. The pot stickers were great, followed by the lobster and shrimp bisque with a delicate flavor from the cognac. The New York Strip with peppercorn cognac sauce was the best New York Strip I have ever eaten and cooked perfectly medium rare. My friend's shrimp oregenata was delicious and also perfectly cooked. Our waiter, Kyle was attentive and helpful. Outstanding!"

  • "Great seafood restaurant. We went with friends visiting from out of town. We were all impressed with the facility and especially the quality and freshness of our fish entrees. would highly recommend it for those loking for quality seafood. Unfortunately no one at our table tried the steaks so we cannot give any recommendations on them."

  • "With all that we experienced over our anniversary weekend, my wife and i agree that our highlight was our dinner spent at Eddie V's. We were escorted to our quiet and semi-secluded table to find it dressed in rose petals, my wife loved it! We were then immediately greeted by Taylor who stopped at nothing to ensure our full and complete satisfaction. Our appetizers and meal were so impressive, I requested the chef out for my sincerest compliments and gratitude. Anna Maria found the time during her extremely busy agenda to introduce herself, as well as, depict her passion for company and craft. An absolutely incredible evening supported by quality environment, delicious menu, and incredible staff."

  • "This was my first visit to Eddie V's in Chicago. I am a regular at Eddie V's in Austin and Dallas Texas. I found the Chicago location to be up to Eddie V's standards and would recommend it to anyone who wanted exceptional food and service. They even serve The Prisoner Wine by the glass."

  • "I've never been to Eddie V's; found it on Open Table and read the reviews. By buddy and I sat at the bar, our bartender was James, and he was so helpful. We were going to sit at a table, but James was very good and they had a 3 piece jazz trio playing so we decided to eat in the bar. James knew his wine which was important. The food was outstanding--we both had petite filets, a couple salads, and shared a couple side dishes. All very good! I will be coming back!"

  • "Great restaurant. Place is a little dark, due to its location under Michigan Ave. But oh well. Great live music in the bar after dinner."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Great food and service with a nice jazz background, so-so location on the cusp of lower Michigan Ave."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "This restaurant is great, but two of the items I ordered were very highly spiced (hot) and I couldn't eat them. The tuna tartar was extremely hot. I wish they would make it clear on the menu which items are hot as some people can't eat those items. Great service. I will be more careful when ordering next time."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "This restaurant had amazing everything. The appetizers were great. The drinks and live music at the bar set a nice tone. The steaks were great. Be careful of the items that were not listed on the menu. My husband ordered an amazing steak "the Tomahawk" it was $80. It was great, but a little bit of sticker shock. The waiter was awesome and made sweet tea for us even though it wasn't on the menu. Dessert was great. Bananas foster was to die for. This restaurant was so good that it made everything else that I ate in Chicago only average or below."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary. Table was strewn with rose petals and we were served a delicious complimentary dessert. Very nice. Loud woman at an adjacent table was annoying, but not the restaurant's fault."
    Dined on 8/12/2014
  • "Great menu selections and big portion sizes. We had halibut and sea bass with sides of brussels sprouts and truffle mac and cheese."

  • "Eddie V's is now my favorite seafood restaurant in Chicago. You will spend $60-70 per person with a decent bottle of pinot grigio, sancerre, or sauvignon blanc. The Scallop and fish entrees were perfectly seasoned and prepared. The salads were very fresh and tasty. Highly recommended!"
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "We have had dinner there twice within 5 weeks. With all of the choices on just that corner alone, I would have to say we thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was impeccable. I will continue to recommend the restaurant. In addition, we will try bruch outside."

  • "took my family there for a birthday. treated us very well and the food was great, even provided shawls when my sister and niece got a little chilly from the a/c. We'll be back!"

  • "Eddie V's surpassed our expectations! It was left up to me to book reservations for my boyfriend to entertain a few out of town colleagues for a business dinner. I am not your go-to girl for city recommendations by any stretch of the imagination, so I seeked advice from others. My mother raved about & suggested Eddie V's after having been to the Scottsdale location many times and I am so glad she did! From the minute we walked in I knew we would not be disappointed. The restaurant was phenomenal! Atmosphere...A+, staff...A+, food...A+++, drink selection...A+! Our server, Taylor, was so helpful, knowledgable & patient. The food was so fresh & delicious & presented beautifully. You won't be disappointed with Eddie V's!!!"

  • "I know Eddie V's quite well from many terrific, memorable visits to the Austin location. But, the Chicago location is new. I try to avoid new spots, until they've had a chance to iron out the kinks and get a rhythm. But I took a chance. What a fabulous Saturday night, due in large part to a really solid waiter, a terrific General Manager who stopped by for a bit, great food, a fantastic wine list (pretty reasonable for most bottles), and a very cool bar . This place is great and only going to get better. I highly recommend this location."

  • "We were very pleased with Eddie V's. The food was EXCELLENT. Service was very attentive and friendly. Great attention to details. Very pleasant experience and not at all snooty. If we go back to Chicago we will definitely go back to Eddie V's. Gregory was a most excellent waiter."

  • "We've enjoyed EV's in two other states: Scottsdale,AZ and San Diego and LaJolla, CA. It's a perfect addition to all the excellent dining options in Chicago. It is SO good that it beat out all those other choices for our final night. Started with a combo steak/lobster tartare light, but flavorful. Although we skipped it tonight, a must try/have is the crab fried rice-decadent! They had a special snapper that they prepared with sauces and sides literally on the side (weight watcher friendly)that in no way diminished the quality or taste. And the New York au poivre was juicy and crusted. The chocolate lava cake is HUGE and one of the best anywhere. You CANNOT go wrong with Eddie V's- no matter where you are!"

  • "Everyone at Eddie V's made our anniversary dinner a great experience. Since I told them it was our anniversary they had rose petals on the table, which I claimed credit for!. Our waiter, Taylor, was knowledgeable, patient and personable. The way the staff supported each other was amazing and enhanced our dining experience. We will definitely be returning and I have already recommended Eddie V's to friends."
