Diner Reviews
  • "The entire visit was very enjoyable except for the valet service. No one staffed the position outside the front door at 630 pm. Good thing the rest of our visit was so good or we would not come back."

  • "We really enjoyed this restaurant. We were celebrating our 20th Anniversary and they went out of their way to make it special with an awesome dessert! Our waitress was attentive and very helpful. We wished we had made our reservation a little earlier because they had a Jazz band playing as we were seated but they finished at around 9:30 so didn't get to hear much. Next time we will have to plan ahead."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner. Let me tell ya, Eddie V's and the entire staff did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived and were seated my girlfriend was wished a happy birthday several different times; nice touch. What really sent the whole experience home for the both of us though was the world-class service and meticulous attention to detail brought to us by our server, Luke. He took the time to answer all of our questions and after what seemed like almost a dozen different tastings he helped my girlfriend find a suitable wine for herself. I ordered the tuna while the birthday girl had the fresh sole fish with the crab cake appetizer and banana foster desert. Everything was fantastic. Highly recommended!"

  • "Eddie V's prides itself for having the best seafood and steak in Chicago, and it may have very well lived up to its name. Service is friendly and quick, the food is well portioned and delicious, and the prices are reasonable for such high quality. Would definitely go back for another round :)"

  • "Great atmosphere. Just what we were looking for in a romantic restaurant. We were seated a bit away from the bar and jazz music and while we could hear it conversation was easy and we never had to raise our voices. The closer to the bar area the more energetic the noise level. Drinks were made right. My wife's whiskey sour was made from scratch and my manhattan was was smooth. The food was fabulous, The bluepoint oysters were cold and the caprese salad fresh. The filet was done to perfection, the shrimp oreganto was perfect. The small sides were delicious but could be even smaller to share. The bananas foster butter cake was fabulous! Service was terrific, attentive but not hovering and anticipating our every need."

  • "I'm from out of town, but friends have raved about Eddie V's and i was so excited to finally go when i visited Chicago. I walked in with VERY, VERY high expectations - and every single one was met! Elana S., our server, was phenomenal! The service was very smooth and cohesive, and the food was fantastic. I can't wait to visit an Eddie V's again!"

  • "There was nothing exceptional about this place. It reminded me of Las Vegas in the 80s."

  • "Some very good dishes but also some disappointing ones. Oysters, ahi tuna and scallops were all delicious nut our main course of Halibut was quite dry. The service and wine list were excellent. For the expensive price, we've had much better meals."

  • "The quality was exceptional. From the ambience to the service to the perfectly prepared food. We made diner reservations at the last minute, no problem. As good as the entire dinner was, I look forward to going back and just sitting in the lounge to listen to the jazz and work my way slowly through all their appetizers. And then there was the warmed goat cheese salad. Simple and brilliant. Thank you"

  • "The menu was fabulous. Lots of choices. Very willing to accommodate gluten free. No hassle at all. Wine list had lots of options in various price ranges. Our waiter, Jackson, was personable & knowledgeable. He didn't hover but was always there when we were looking for him. I'd make it my 'go-to' place if we lived in Chicago."

  • "This was our first time dining at Eddie V's. There were 4 in our party dining. We ordered their crab cake appetizer--excellent-all crab meat with very little bread filling. We had their tomato heirloom salad, one of the best salads. We also ordered their Tomahawk Rib eye, it was good but not great. Most of party ordered fish: the scallops were excellent, the Grouper and the Chilean Sea bass were very good. Several small problems: 1) They did not have the wine listed on their menu; nor did they recommend a replacement, we had to pick our own substitute. 2) the manager did not handle situation well, including a dropped silverware. Overall, the wait staff needs more training/experience; but the food was great. Will return for an encore."

  • "As past residents of Chicagoland we return annually to enjoy a downtown stay and update ourselves on the current dining scene. Eddie V's is open less than a year and features seafood. Our experience dining there was extraordinary. Our expectations were exceeded in every aspect of an excellent evening of great wines, great welcoming atmosphere, and great food. My entree choice was sea bass. This was preceded by a scrumptious lump crab sea food bar appetizer and an arugula salad topped with melted goat cheese. My wife and I shared this generous salad Her entree was the sea scallops. The "secret sauces" that Eddie V's utilizes to set apart the various courses is varied, understated, and delicious for each. We will return often."

  • "We went to Eddie V's based on recommendations on Yelp and ease of reservations from OpenTable. What a great find. Food was phenomenal (they offer really fresh seafood selections as well as great steaks) and reasonably priced for a nice restaurant. Great wine selection and live jazz music (you can choose to sit close to the band or far away where the music is not as loud). Great romantic dinner out and the service is top notch as well."

  • "We went for our wedding anniversary. I indicated on the reservation that is was for our Anniversary and requested a booth. We arrive 30 mins late and the hostess was very friendly and accommodating. She welcomed us and said Happy Anniversary! We had a nice booth and rose pedals on our table when we arrived. The waitress on the other hand wasn't as friendly but she was nice and did her job, I don't even remember her name. We were in a booth to the right of the stairs. She wasn't very attentive and didn't go over the menu with us at all as did other waiters that we observed. We enjoyed our dinner and the dessert they gave us, which was a banana cake, was amazing! I may come back, but will try some other restaurants before I return."

  • "I'm not sure if it's the food or Devlin, the waiter that keeps us coming back! The food is great, especially the Parmesan crusted sole. But Frvlin makes it worth being there! Eager to suggest and always with a smile, Devlin enhanced the evening!"

  • "Found Eddie V's on Open Table. It has great reviews. Was looking for a place to celebrate my wife's birthday on a trip to Chicago and this place was fantastic. We arrived early to enjoy a drink in the lounge along with the live jazz trio. The dining experience in the main dining room was everything we could hope for and more. Definitely a winner with great food, very attentive and helpful service. A top-flight place providing a top-flight dining experience. Would definitely return in the future."

  • "I am not one to brag on seafood, since it isn't my favorite thing to eat. But after eating at Eddie V's my opinion has changed. I started out with the Lobster Tacos and I will say that I was pleasantly surprised. They were really good. For my main meal I had the Jumbo Gulf Shrimp, and I will say that this was the best shrimp that I have ever eaten. My server Eric was very attentive and answer any questions that I had with great detail. I will most definitely be going back."

  • "Both the service and food were very good/excellent. Somewhat on the $$$ side. The Jazz Band in the Lounge is a very good touch for and excellent evening. Valet parking is available, or you can park yourself across the street on Rush garage. Special requests for seating and other items are honored in possible due to crowd. Great place to spend an evening with that special someone."

  • "The only thing that we liked were the East coast oysters. Yellowtail sashimi, Chilean seabass and Ahi Tuna were not enjoyable. They all lacked seasoning. The seabass and ahi tuna were entrees and were not the right temperature (on the colder side). Looks like the dishes had been sitting on the kitchen counter for too long. The texture of both the dishes was chewy, did not feel fresh, lacked seasoning. Not going back again and not recommending to anyone."

  • "Food is consistently good and the service was good too. The truffled mac and cheese is sinfully good and so is the arugula salad with mushroom. Also, the chocolate molten cake is a very generous serving."

  • "After dining in several great restaurants in NYC earlier this year, my wife and I took a chance with this relatively "new" restaurant in Chicago. Eddie V's surpassed our best NYC meals at celebrity chef's restaurants. The all the staff was focused on the customer. Their attention to detail without being stuffy, down to exact placement of the napkins and silverware was a real joy to see and experience. With me having some food limitations, our server was extremely helpful with her suggestions, and the food was terrific. Meal portions were reasonably filling so there was room for a shared desert. I plan to bring a group of friends here on my next visit to Chicago in November. It is now our Chicago favorite."

  • "We enjoyed our evening in this stellar restaurant in the heart of downtown!! Drinks, menu, entrees, dessert were all very pleasing to the eye and scrumptious to the palate. I would recommend this establishment for those wanting a special dinner, that was done with all the professionalism you would expect from a classy place."

  • "My group and I really enjoyed Eddie V's. It was a professional group with the addition of two teenagers and one other adult. The group included men and women. Everyone enjoyed their food. We ordered entrees plus four sides which was plenty of food (including the teenage boys). The waiter, Brian, recommended a nice light wine for the ladies which was only available at this restaurant and it was perfect. The service was great. The ambiance was busy, but quiet. It was quiet enough that we could talk as a group which was really nice."

  • "We went here on a $50 off coupon. We order a bottle of wine and the waiter, apparently misunderstanding, brought two glasses. Turned out to be ok, cause I saved money on it. I ordered the scallops and, while the scallops were amazing, the sauce and the citrus and almonds did not go with the scallops. It was a huge let down. My girlfriend's meal was the same---the fish was good but the additional items on the plate were a let down. The truffle mac n cheese was good."
