Eddie V's - 5th StreetSimply OutstandingI booked Eddie V's for our first engagement anniversary as I heard it recieved steller reviews, if you loved seafoodand are looking for a fine dinning experience this is the place for you. This not a cheap place however you will be bowled by the standard of the cuisine the presentation and waiter service which led to an unforgettable dinning experience.
My fiance and I both started with oysters and the calamari which was superb, this was followed by scallops and swordfish, every dish was delectable and a pleasure to the palette. As I live in Scotland I made the booking on-line the process was straightforward and simple.

The service was exemplary and our server, Jaime, made the night even more pleasant with her upbeat personality. The wine lprices are on the higher end. The dessert of bananas foster cake is one of a kind. I order bananas foster often at restaurants and I have never seen it prepared this way where a butter cake sits in the fosters sauce with bananas atop the cake and then rum is lit with fire and poured over the dessert. you eat it avfter the flames extinguish in a few seconds leaving a rum soaked warm cake to eat with your bananas foster.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSurpriseI surprised my daughter by flying her dearest friend out from California to eat at Eddie V's. We were all quite impressed and our waitress, Katie, was superb. I like Eddy V's'; the tablecloths, the bread service, the ambiance, the food, the friendly folk...it just all works for me.
I tried a new dish for me, Chilean Sea Bass in wine and lemon broth. It was good, but not as spectacular as some of the other dishes I have devoured. We had a wonderful waiter, Jason, and he took great care of all 6 of us making sure that everything we ordered was done exactly as we asked. The food was delicious, as always. Eddie V's is one of our favorite for special occasions and for those romantic evenings out. The only thing that disappointed us was the combo playing that evening. We always sit in the lounge because we enjoy the music and had even requested it for that evening. However, the group that played on Saturday night was large and very loud. When they played, you could not even talk to your table mates! The waiter Jason was fantastic and the General Manager James Powers even stopped by to make sure everything was perfect. The Lobster was so moist and succulent that I asked the Gm how they make that happen, unfortunately I don't have the 1800 degree broiler to replicate the meal. Their Banana's Foster is the best in the world. We had heard good things about Eddie V's and decided to try it for our anniversary. We expected the food would be fabulous (it was) but what really surprised me was the customer service. From the moment we arrived, the staff was extremely friendly and eager to please. Our table was ready within 5 minutes of our reservation and we received a table with covered with rose petal and a signed card from the staff. In addition, Eddie V's provided us with a complimentary dessert.
The wait staff kept our glasses full and were on top of everything. In general the service was great.
The food was also awesoeme. Fresh and flavorful. We had the scallops and halibut. Dessert (creem brulee) was slow, and it was served cold with four warm plates. Not sure why! It was very noisy, not the ideal place for a romantic dinner. The service is so great that I just feel comfortable dining there. There have been two separate dining instances (one in Houston and one in Austin) where I have asked the server to provide a scallop appetizer dish and both chefs has always accommodated by creating a delicious scallop appetizer for me. Eddie V's truly values customer satisfaction and it shows through the food and service. I ordered the filet mignon as my entree and ordered side dishes for my party--the crab fried rice is too die for. Eddie V's has the best filet mignon. I ordered medium rare, and although it came out a little on the rare side this one time, it was still delicious. We will make it in to Eddie V's more often. Our evening was an event started with cocktails in the bar with snacks. Once we got to our table, had the "special appetizer" and ordered our dinners --- bother were seafood and it was prepared percetly. Not over cooked and seasoned perfectly!! The dessert was AMAZING!! The bartender was very friendly and introduced himself. He had a great balance for being friendly but not interfering with your conversation. Afterwards we were seated at a tiny little table in the corner. I could have rubbed knees with the woman sitting at the table next to us. I know they were trying to seat as many customers as possible at one time, but it was a little uncomfortable trying to get in and out of the table without bumping the table next to me.
Our waiter was very friendly and hospitable. The food and wine was great. We live on the East Coast so we were anxious to check out the seafood. Our waiter was friendly in a professional waiter kind of way . The fried oysters were the best that I have ever tasted and I have eaten many. My friend said that the mushroom salad was just okay. I am sorry to say that the fish dishes that we ordered were more or less "fried fish" entrees and could have been seasoned and sauced more creatively. Our special pre-ordered chocolate cake was fabulous and a surprise gift from the restaurant when we quietly mentioned that we were celebrating an occasion. We wanted to love Eddie and we kind of do. The crab and corn soup was perfect and the Caesar Salad used the leafy ends of the romaine. My wife ordered the sea bass and I had the fillet with shrimp in a cajun butter special. Both meals were fantastic as well as the twice stuffed potatoes and beets.
