Their approach seems to be to divert customers into the bar so they will spend money on drinks. The bartender pointed out the drink specials when we sat down at the bar but when he returned to take our drink order, he then announced that happy hour had ended and refused to give us the lower price. The steaks are aged and prime and excellently prepared. The price is what you would expect to pay in any steakhouse with prime aged beef. There is also a nice selection of seafood for those that would prefer something other than steak. The list of wines by the glass is very impressive, as is the wine by the bottle list. The wine list breaks down the wines by color and intensity, very clever. The dining room is very nicely appointed and features the glass inclosed wine room with the wine racks going from the floor an up to the hight of a second floor. The food was excellent, the wine just a good. We were able to split a salad and then we split a vegetable with each of our entree's. Ambiance is excellent, our server was friendly and provided excellent service. Both their main entrees and their side orders were served elegantly and were fantastic. I had the 30 Day Dry-aged Ribeye Steak with a side of sauteed spinach, while my lady had the New Orleans Mixed Grill, and all of it was cooked to perfection. The drinks were outstanding, as well. I dine out a lot, as you see with my top 50 contributor rating, and I'm telling you, this is a top notch restaurant. I've been to Gibson's, Joe's, N9NE, Morton's, and Mastro's, and Eddie Merlot's can compete easily with all of those restaurants. Trust me, go to this restaurant. I love that it is a modern take on a steakhouse since i don't typically eat steak but my husband does. Our server even sent us a card after one of our most recent visits. Whenever we have an opportunity to go out (we are parents) Eddie's is our first choice. The managers are fun to chat with, Mike Rufo and Jeff Stoltman. They always stop by to say "hello"! We had the privilege of meeting the head chef as well. He has done work at other places we enjoyed like Gioco's in the city. Only bug was the clarity of the menu which sort of went to extremes with very high priced entree's on one side of the menu playing the ala carte image while the flip side had some reasonable entries with sides that werent too clear.
Some friends have shared their belief that your ala carte is a bit excessive and give you the image of being over priced which scares them away. Although I found the right side of the menu reasonable with some nice offerings especially the pork chop.
