  • "Had a delightful evening here last Sunday!!! Had cocktails outside, and moved in for dinner. Our waiter was superb!!! And the food as good as always----love that sweet potato dish!!!! At the top of my list in the metro area!!!"

  • "We went as a group of 10 for my brothers bday party. The ambience is nice but we had a terrible experience with the waiter. Let's just say he made a ethnic remark/stereotype and carried on in complaining that WE paid by CC instead of cash which would delay him getting his tips. Just an awful experience. On top of that, food is way over priced for the quality, especially the steaks. Manager listen to our concern and just apologized...did not really offer any remorse off the bill, not that it would of made up for it. Even if it was free, wouldn't go back"

  • "We came to enjoy for Dream Cruise and also to celebrate our 45th anniversaries. We had a very enjoyable evening."
    Dined on 8/16/2014
  • "My wife and I have eaten at many high end steak houses in and around the metropolitan Detroit area and I have to say Eddie Merlot's didn't live up to my expectations and it seemed more of a cruise ship atmosphere. The service we received from Marcus was outstanding. He really made our dinner enjoyable. We started off with the bbq shrimp & filet potstickers which were both delicious. The chopped salad & lobster bisque soup were tasty and for the main course we shared the tomahawk ribeye. It was prepared just right but not as flavorful as I would have expected. The sides of tempura beans were good and the Eddie's potatoes were very bland. We're in no hurry to return but may try it again at some point in the future."

  • "Our meals were perfection -- from the bisque, to the salad, to the filets (mouthwatering!), to the sweet potato casserole (scrumptious), to the hash brown pie. Eddie Merlot's Merlot was excellent! Cheesecake was yummy. The bread had great texture and flavor. Our server was perfection. It was our first visit and he was an expert in his descriptions and recommendations. He was friendly and professional, and we enjoyed the interaction. Absolutely a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "If you want one of the most expensive evenings out, then go to Eddie Merlot's. We've eaten there in the past and for what we get, the service is ok (not very tentative). Ambience is different/unusual/unique. People are friendly. For the price, we can get so much more at other restaurants in Rochester like Kruse and Muer or Rochester Chop House. Perhaps we're paying for eating in Birmingham."

  • "My friends and I love this place. It is a bit over our budget for us, but we can have a great meal and great time during happy hour. I just wish they would bring back the meatballs"

  • "We visited Eddie Merlot's with several of my husband's frat brothers from out of town. They were all very impressed. Beautiful restaurant. Though it was very busy, the noise level was perfect for conversation. The food was wonderful. 3 of us had the tenderloins done 3 ways and all were perfectly cooked and delicious. Service was exceptional as well--Eddie (our server)--Great Job! Consensus was that Eddie Merlot's is one of the best restaurants around. We joined the dining club!"

  • "Was expecting it to be just another steak house, but it turned out to be nicer. The food selections were more varied, the prices were pretty good and the decor was a little more modern. Our server was very friendly and helpful, although I felt she was around a little too much (better than not enough tho). Food quality was very good."

  • "Our family of four adults celebrated my husband's birthday here on a Wednesday evening. We sat out on the patio so we could enjoy the beautiful weather. This was not our first visit and we have always have had excellent service. Though our servers were very pleasant, it seemed to take aong time to bring drinks, deliver good, etc. However, that aside (and we were not in a hurry), the food was wonderful and we had an overall 5 star experience!"

  • "Second time to the restaurant with two others that are "members" not an especially busy night , but we were rushed by our waiter. We sat down and were greeted by our waiter, he again approached and we had yet to open our menus. He stated take your time, throughout the night, if I put down a spoon he asked if he could take my half bowl of soup. The same with the bread, my entree, you get the picture. Food was good but the constant hovering of this waiter dampened the evening."

  • "Absolutely amazing food - the filet with peppercorn sauce and the bourbon ribeye were melting in our mouths. The chopped salad was flavorful and the cheese plate for an appetizer the perfect starter. Our server was a highlight of the dinner. He handpicked the appetizer cheese and meat based on our tastes. He made our anniversary dinner memorable. First time we have eaten at this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised how much we loved it. The only downside is they knew it was our anniversary, yet they seated us in the back corner not in the main dining area - not very quaint, cozy or romantic. Not sure why, but we did not complain."

  • "We were seated promptly, at the table we requested. Water glasses filled quickly. Hot bread and olive oil brought to table. My caesar salad was good, and brought with light dressing and anchovies. My filet was slightly overcooked, and not as good as the one I made at home last night (mine was Prime beef, theirs was not. My husbands fish dish was good, and the other woman liked her sea bass. The other man ordered salmon well done. It came medium,he sent it back to be more well cooked. They brought it back to him, still not cooked well. They did finally take it of the bill. The waiter was okay, not anything special. Shared one dessert, ,we ate it so it must have been okay. There are other steakhouses in the area I like better. Won't return."

  • "Waitstaff a bit too chatty and authoritative with respect to recommendations, etc...I came to talk to my husband, not the waitstaff."

  • "The food was ok but not great and our server wasn't on top of things as you would expect for a group of sever. She even forget to bring dessert to a few people at our table."

  • "The service and food was exceptional. Our server made great reccomendations from the wine list and the menu. At the conclusion of our meal noting it was somewhat of a special occasion she even offered us a free dessert. We had a great time! Words can't express how outstanding the service and food was."

  • "We are so fortunate in the Royal Oak and Birmingham area to have such a robust selection of privately owned restaurants and because of that, we rarely frequent chain restaurants. The Eddie Merlot experience was very nice, but definitely come hungry or be prepared to take food home."

  • "We arrived at 5pm on a Friday night. We had Tri for our waiter. It was my first visit but my Husband has dined there before. It's quieter during the early hours as we were among the first to come in for dinner. I like to arrive before the dinner rush. I enjoyed the food very much. I had crab cakes, lobster bisque and cedar planked salmon. My Husband had smoked salmon, lobster bisque & dry-aged steak. The wine pairings was phenomenal. I had the lemon sorbet for dessert. It's a beautiful establishment staffed with genuine waiters & waitresses. Thank you, Tri, for your thoughtful suggestions & excellent service."

  • "This was our 4th visit and each time the food, service and ambiance have been exemplary. Highly recommend this for special occasions or just a place to get great food with great service."

  • "We won't go back. The best part about the restaurant was the comfortable chairs. Our tuna appetizer was not fresh, we only took 2 bites and they only took it half off the bill. The Brussell Sprouts were drowning in oil and were not cooked thru. The mushrooms and steak were decent but again drowning in butter and oil. The service declined when we sent back the tuna."

  • "I am always impressed with the service at Eddie Merlot's, in particular Tri. He is great with our kids and provides impeccable service! This has become the go to place for special occasions for our family!"

  • "I took note of Eddie Merlot's when a local newscaster said they had the best steak on town. Then to my surprise, I received a coupon in the mail a few weeks later. So I decided to take my mom to dinner, because she LOVES a good steak. We had an amazing time, and fantastic meal. I knew I'd struck gold when when my mom said the steak was better than her local faves like Flemings and Capital Grille."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Birmingham-Bloomfield area. However, I was somewhat disappointed with an incident that occurred with the manager on my birthday. The restaurant lists a specific year for the wine we ordered and for the third time, the wine delivered was not the year indicated. The waiter sent the manager over so my husband could alert him to this continued discrepency in their menu that should be corrected as the year listed was a better year for this wine. The manager listened politely, but his attitude indicated nothing will be done about it. My husband assured him we didn't want anything other than to see the menu corrected. The waiter was very apologetic about it ."
