  • "I had a fantastic experience planning a 3-hour brunch meeting with the restaurant over the phone. I knew it was an unusual request to host this long meeting, but not totally bizarre in a large downtown hotel, and the whole reason I called was to be sure it would work for them and so they'd be prepared. It was a waste of my time because the staff on the day didn't follow through on any of it. The food was fine. The price was fine. Guests commented on how nice and dramatic the setting is. They also commented that the background music was a little annoying, but we could talk over it. It could have been fantastic, but the confusion and ambivalence of the staff on the day we arrived, despite pre-planning, was frustrating."

It was delicious however. The service was outstanding... would give it 10 stars if that was an option. Will definately go back."

  • "Dining at the Eclipse located in the San Francisco Hyatt Regency was quite lovely. However, I think that for the rather pricey meal, $52.00, for three (3) course meal, was a bit too high in price. The restaurant is located in the lobby of the downtown San Francisco hotel, and is a little bit on the on noisey side. Service was very good and staff was very attentive. I think I would like to have seen a more varied menu, with those of a fixed income considered. Remember NOT EVERYONE has a six figure salary!"

  • "Made a reservation for Christmas lunch through Open Table. Nice ambience, not too crowded, and quiet even though the restaurant is in the hotel lobby. We waited a while before someone took our order, but at least the server was friendly. The food had great flavor, but the halibut (which was one of their specials) was a bit dry. Everything else we ordered was great. We didn't order dessert because the food took so long, we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for dessert. Overall a good restaurant with pretty good food, they just need to improve their service. We didn't get any bread, we weren't offered any water or additional drinks until we asked, and no one came to ask how we were doing at any time while we were sitting there."

  • "Fun place to eat in the main lobby of the Hyatt Regency at the Embarcadero. We went here for my daughter's 13th birthday dinner. Service was a bit slow and waiter was a little hard to understand, but he got all the orders right and even provided a free birthday dessert to my daughter, a nice touch! Food was very good, nothing exceptional but still perfectly fine. There is a great "create your own" option where you pick a main course, a sauce, and two sides. No skimping out either, portions are well filling. Ambiance is great, beneath the strings of lights hanging from the Hyatt ceiling. Also around Christmas time the hotel has a wonderful Christmas village all laid out. Prices are very reasonable as well, would certainly return again!"

  • "I had a business lunch for the first time at Eclipse with two associates who happened to be women. I walked in with one, and the other came in a few minutes later, chuckling that the host had asked - are you with the couple that came in a few minutes earlier? My only complaint about the meal was that our server twice misunderstood a simple request - directly off the menu - and restated it to be something else, and we eventually just settled for it. I think it was a language barrier rather than inattention."

  • "I brought my grandson and his family down from Oroville to this event. We combined it with other SF sites We love it and the Santa was wonderful The only drawback was it was a buffet. With small children and my age, I prefer being waited on but still I would do it again and we had a wonderful time."

  • "We arrived on time and were told we had no reservations, the host refused to look at both printed copy or my phone showing that indeed we had a reservation. He argued and was very rude. He then sat us at the kitchen door and right in front of the buffet so we had patrons moving about and around us our whole meal. this was a breakfast with Santa and we were there an hour before Santa made his way to our table and at the time one of the two children had already left. the host came over to our table 3/4 of the way through our meal and asked if everything was OK I told him no and he said yes it is and walked away. 2 adults and 2 children was $92 without tip. Very expensive and very disappointing"

  • "I have a small group that meets monthly for breakfast at Eclipse. The service is always lacking...just this week, I sat at my table for 10 minutes and not one server offered me coffee, water or anything else. I finally got up to ask the maître de for coffee. When the waiter finally came over, he came with attitude. On every other occasion, the wait staff has been slow to approach the table. The food is fine but the lack of service always detracts from the experience. Perhaps the staff could benefit from more training."

We were worried the prices would be prohibitive considering the location and that it's part of the Hyatt, but we looked up the menu and saw that it's not too bad. Service was prompt and professional.   • "We didn't see any signage for the restaurant, so we walked into the bar area to ask, didn't realize that the 'dining' area was part of the bar. When we sat down, I handed over a gift certificate & was given just a wine list. After one server took the wine order, another server asked if we were ready & I said that we needed menus in order to know what to order. There was no mention of specials or explanation of the menu. When our main dish arrived, we could tell they did not let the steak rest prior to cutting it & serving it. We felt since we were using a gift certificate, that we didn't get the same level of service. I specifically put on Open Table that this was a Birthday celebration. That was never mentioned once, no candle, etc."

  • "We ordered off the limited Alcatraz dinner menu. The food was good but the wrong order was delivered to one of three requiring a reorder. The dining area shares space with a bar. The bar was active and noisy. It was difficult to get the attention of the staff. When the meal was completed our server disappeared. It took an additional 1/2 hour to get the bill. The food was over priced for the quality and service. Not recommended."

  • "It's odd to have found such an amazing place in the lobby of a hotel - but, it was great. The Hyatt lobby is beautiful and makes for a nice scenery while you eat. The noise level was low, although I'm not sure if that changes depending on what time you go and whether the lobby of the hotel is busy or not. Everyone was extremely pleased with the food - the salads were AMAZING, especially the Crab Salad - I think it's called the Crab Louie. Five of us shared a banana bread pudding, which was also delicious. Would definitely recommend this place for a nice business lunch or somewhere to go with a friend."

  • "Reserved a dinner here way in advance to take a date to from out of town. We got all the way up to the top floor with the rotating restaurant that we THOUGHT we would be spending a romantic evening in, only to be turned away by some snooty man who said that it was for regency club members only and that we werent allowed to be here. When we said we were lost and didnt know where to go, he just kept repeating that we couldnt be there. Finally we found the correct restaurant on our own, which was just in the lobby (and didnt rotate). We had made an hour long trip out there specifically for this special rotating restaurant feature and I felt terrible for letting down my date."

  • "This is an open air/open lobby establishment. Because of the SF Marathon, it was almost overcrowded. The caesar salad was average even with 4 prawns. The salmon was dry, the burger ok and probably the one item ordered that came out good, and the pasta was light and almost watery but tasty. Staff were busy, a tad slow, but friendly."

  • "On our vacation, I wanted to re-live my childhood and take my husband to Eclipse. Back in the late '70s, my father used to have conventions at the Hyatt, and some of my best memories are from here. Well, 2013 didn't disappoint. The lobby is as magnificent as I remembered, and Eclipse is truly civilized, dignifed dining. The food was outstanding. I had the Coq a Vin (herbed and seasoned to perfection, warm, earthy and comforting), and my husband had the crab cakes (perfectly airy and flavorful) and the Crab Louie Salad, which he said was very fresh and delicious. Our server was helpful and prompt, and the support staff were conscientious about refilling our water, replacing flatware, etc. An outstanding meal."

  • "I found this restaurant when searching through dine about town listings and I'm glad I chose it. The way the Hyatt Regency was decorated created the perfect ambience for the meal. With hundreds of strung lights hanging from the ceiling it felt as though I was dining out doors. The food was delicious, especially the chocolate molten cake for dessert. The drinks were worth the price, the bar did not skimp on the alcohol. Overall we had a nice evening."

  • "The food was good, but not worth the price. I cannot imagine how good the food would need to be to make up for the terrible service. This was the first time either of us had experienced such terrible service: We waited at least 10 minutes at our table before being greeted, waited 15 minutes for our appetizer, and 25 minutes for our entrees. To top it off, no one ever came by to check on us - not once! There were no refills on water, they did not ask if we wanted to order more cocktails, and they were cold and generally unfriendly. We waited a very long time for the check, and eventually gave our card to a server from a different section. It still took a very long time to get the receipt. I strongly recommend avoiding this location!"

  • "Food was good, but not spectacular. I probably will go back because you always find a table there and it's a really nice place to chit chat. I go there to meet old friends and meet with clients. It's so quiet, you actually don't get your water poured or any server ice there."
